I am going on holiday to Egypt, do Egyptians prefer to be tipped in their own currency or with British pounds?

In Egypt they don't use British pounds. They most of the time use: (in order)
1-Egyptian pounds
2-U.S Dollars
3-Euro

what would you think if a foreigner gave you a tip in yen ?

Being totally honest I have to say that some Egyptians like to be tipped in foreign currency so that they can easily exchange it for Egyptian pounds. And let's face it, it would make them richer since the Egyptian currency is not worth much.
But my advice for you is to tip in Egyptian pounds. It would be cheaper for you and they wouldn't make a fortune from your money.

A good advice to you. Stop giving tips, other wise you are in a problem having them running after you all the time and ruining your vacation dear. If you still want to tip them at the hotels, then do it in their currency.

Unless you are leaving a tip which is very large, then give it in local currency. Otherwise the "tipee" has to go to the bank and change it and lose money on it. The same applies in almost all situations.

their own

Be better to tip them in their OWN currency otherwise they have to go find a place to exchange their notes. (as Note only can be exchanged)

Own currency

When I was there they wanted american dollars or euros

gypsiebuck
I doubt anyone would want tipping with GBP at the moment but offer them the choice.

L.J.
Next year I am going to Italy and I heard that they like American dollars. I don't know about Egypt? It could be the same...Sorry Lottie..

in the economical crises now, the british pounds become like a horror currency, because ir dropped by 30% in one month, so egyptians now don't like except their currency

Juliet(still waiting hahahah)
whatever

scorpion_asd
Egypt open country accept any currency

yes they allow it

i have been there and when i was there we used their currency. i think the exchange will be approx 8-10 Egyptian dollars to the pound. beware though some people try anything to scam you for your money like picking up you bag and moving it like 20 paces put it down and ask for your tip. its also really hard not to give money away because its a very poor country, especially in the slum area and around the al kallili market (cant remember how to spell it). spend your hard earned on what you want to do and give when you feel its right? have an awsome trip.

don't tip,if u do feel the need to tip someone do it in the safety of the hotel , u will be targeted if u tip outside the hotel targeted by pick-pockets.
