You need to define your role and he does as well, are you there to cook and clean as a core role or a supporting role?
When you think of your spouse, you tend not to think about them wearing a chiefs hat or a tool belt, unless it's a fetish. :-p
If she can or can't cook, who cares, I've never suffered from food and anyone else can do that for me, but no one can cover for her in terms of our relationship, emotional and physical.
Look at how we hire people, do we hire secretaries because they can do the work or are pretty? Assuming you're either male or female doesn't matter. When you have young kids, would you go and work in a very successful career and serve the national GDP while handing your kids over to someone who hasn't see Asfelt before and live where they grew up and live in marginal or severly unsanitary standards? We might be smart, but do we actually think? |

Cooking would do you wonders. To get to a man's heart is thru his stomach.... |

I don't think that it is a disadvantage for a girl any more that it is a disadvantage for a boy.
The advantage of cooking is that you can prepare some interesting meals without have to always go out for anything more complex than opening a box.
If you live with somebody who can cook then this is not such a great problem.
P.S. I don't always cook, but I can and when the mood takes me I do it well.
P.P.S I bet I drink more coffee than you! |

Nope... I don't know how to cook either... well I learned a couple of dishes ever since I got married (4-5 years ago) and I only make them once in a while... I don't enjoy cooking... but I do enjoy eating good food :D
My mom used to chase me around so I would hang around in the kitchen and learn something... but I never did... I was always glued to my books and computer...
Hubby doesn't complain much... lol... well we both are very busy... go out in the morning around 6-7 and come back home around 9-10... dead tired... so we go straight to bed...
So you see... there's no disadvantage... if you don't enjoy doing it... then you shouldn't... ^-^ |

I can teach you to cook. Then you won't have an excuse.
But I'm concerned about the consumerism. |

kind of yes, but what truly matters is your personality. i would personally take cooking lessons or take a college cooking class or just experiment with different foods. i find it fun to cook but i'm no chef. you really just follow recipes and practice and make small adjustments and experiment a little (or a lot). well good luck. i hope this helps.
P.S. "gone away" knows what he's talking about. |

Nope.
As long as you're beautiful girl, others will not be critical factors anymore. |

interesting answers above..
I am a Saudi-American lady.. I live in Saudi.. but my cooking skills were learned by my mother and grandmother in USA.. I personally love cooking..
having said this.. I can understand where you come from.. I have many friends, saudis as well as american girls who dont, nor ever want or plan on cooking...
Its a lot like science.. if you are good at cooking, you probably were good in lab class.. to me its like concocting something together and see what the end result is.. Men take to cooking well also... Its not a "womens" thing only... Some people are good at it, some manage to get by, and some just cant grasp or want to get it...
Sure it would be a lot easier if you knew and a whole lot cheaper on you in the long run, but if you dont know, these days there are plenty of restaurants that offer healthy choices and not the typical fast food junk.. Also there are plenty of heat up in the microwave choices these days.. so you are pretty much covered in this area if your husband doesnt mind..
Id still try to learn a few basic things though just in case you get stuck somewhere and cant get to the store to buy ready made... |

It depends on what else you can and can't do! But I think you had better set your sights very, very low, little kitten. On the other hand, how are you at cleaning and laundry?? |

I agree with the first answer itsa disadvantage for both men and women.
am male and I love to cook as long as I dont hav e to do it all the time.
as well as not having to cook these says........so many things like potatoes /rice/veg etc are availble in such a way that its so easy to cook them.just heat them up.
soups/pittzas............there is really no excuse.
I like the idea of just being able to master as many skills as possible. One is more independent. more able to help others etc.
so to sum up as long as you could do most other things I think ur inability to cook could be overlooked.........but its possibly still something to aspire to as it can bring so much personal satisfaction.
to be able to makea beautiful lasagne a nice homemade indian or chinese dish..........wow...........variety is the spice of life.............
as well as deserts/cocktails.
irish coffee ala patrick yummy yummy

I think it is a disadvantage for any person, male or female. In our society, it may be seen as more of one for females. But eating out and getting takeout gives you less control of your diet and is more expensive than cooking for yourself. You should at least learn the basics. You can make coffee all week, for example, for the cost of one Starbucks.
Sorry, didn't see that you were in Saudi Arabia. Never mind. |

well many women don't know how to cook but they find someone who can cook for them.
for you i would advise that you control japanese food especially "sushi" cause its not healthy to eat it regularly . Also please learn some cooking like grilling or making quick and healthy meals at home cause it will help you in the long run. Veg sandwiches, grilled chicken are easy to make and also healthy.
Bon apetit
Another advise is to eat hot meal rather than cold ones cause its healthier. |

Your husband might like and expect you to cook. A lot of men are used to their food being made by their daughters, sister, mothers, and wives. You'll learn how to cook. |
