I live in Zichron Yaacov, a stunningly beautiful town North of Tel Aviv, founded in the 1800s by Russian & Romanian refugees. It was built up by the Rothschild family, & is famous for its vineyards & wineries. I moved here from St Albans, England in 2006, & I promise you that I feel safer here, than in London!
You have absolutely nothing to fear! The only places within range of the Hamas rockets are Sderot & Ashkelon. In Tel Aviv & Jerusalem you are in no more danger from a terrorist attack than in London.
My husband was on the underground train after the train that was blown up in London a couple of years ago, because he was running late for work; something like that can't happen here, cos you can't get past the security barriers with an explosive device.
You get routinely searched when you go into a shopping mall, too - & for all those who say that Israelis are impatient, I'd like to see Londoners or New Yorkers put up with the level of security that we have here without complaining!
Since we moved here, we've all become much nicer people, because it is (maybe surprisingly) such a stress-free environment & the general population is so warm and kind. The people are more friendly than in London, & I feel that my children are safer on the streets.
The weather here is glorious at the moment (not too hot) with lovely blue skies. Eating out is inexpensive, & in the bigger centres, most people will be speaking English (or Russian.....)
Public transport is very cheap, though if you hire a car, be prepared for some crazy driving!
In the big cities, if it weren't for Hebrew writing, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in any city in the world, because all the big stores & chains are here. The best buys are hand crated jewellery & pottery - Israel produces some very fine artists.
If you plan to visit more than 3of the archaeological sites, it's definately worth buying a Parks Authority card (a bit like the National Trust) as it will give you free entrance to tons of amazing sites.
It's also worth signing up with 2 websites; Eluna & rest.co.il, for lots of discount vouchers for restaurants.
Please come, I promise you will have an amazing time!! |

One makes his own decisions, I was in Israel in June last, had a wonderful time, went north to south. Was treated superbly, definitely going there again. |

stop me if you can

In Israel you'll not only have a great time but the people will be friendly, welcoming and not in your face every moment you walk the streets. The country is modern and looks like people take pride in caring for it Let's compare that to my trip to Eygpt. The country looks like nobody cares one bit about it. The roads alone were so terrible i threw up on the bus from the bumps. The people were friendly alright, the kids especially. they were in my face just about every step I took either looking to sell me something or asking for something. When i kindly turned them down their faces changed dramatically.I left Egypt asking myself how Arabs could make Abu Dhabi a paradise with oil money and not help the most historic country in Arab history look even remotely like how the Jewish people made Israel look. Have a great trip to Israel. |

No. Things have died down actually, save for the recent attack. |

Very unlikely. They are targetting the border towns with Gaza, not tourist destinations such as Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa. |

Not at all likely if you stay away from Sderot and Ashkelon.
The deadliest Palestinian attack in Israel in two years killed eight students in a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem on Thursday. http://www.youtube.com/swf/l.swf?video_id=dMxPUzEBWDU&rel=1&eurl=
Some try to justify such barbarity by citing the recent deaths in Gaza of 120 Palestinians - half non-combatants - in Israeli military operations aimed at stopping rocket attacks into Israel. There is no real parallel: Only the willfully blind see moral equivalence between the slaughter of students and accidental civilian deaths incurred after gunmen purposefully hide themselves among women and children.
Palestinian "fighters" do not limit themselves to attacks on Israel's armed forces, or even the controversial settlements on Palestinian land. They prefer to dump rockets on towns at random, and kill teenagers on purpose.

The problem with random rockets is that they are random.
Statistically it is not likley. But you would be even safer if you stayed put in Tipton. |

Don't forget your bullet proof vest, buy life insurance and try to find an armour vehicle to drive you around, otherwise you're safe.
Why in earth would you risk your life??? go spend your money in a safe place! and there are lots of these places. |
