If I believed in the whole concept of having a "soul" mate, I would say yes, I think that's entirely possible.

I think it's possible for two people to have an intense and unexplainable connection with one another, care for eachother's best interest and never be together.

Perhaps, if you are both already married with families and don't want to tear them apart. Or if you got separated in a war, or lost contact or maybe even if your personalities are just too volatile to make cohabiting an option.
