If I DO something I THINK is GOOD but in fact is BAD, am I GUILTY or INNOCENT?

I am not talking about legal matters here….I know that that ignorance of the law is not an excuse before the court. I mean when you do things to make the world a better place, only to realize later that you did more harm than good. Does the result outweigh the original intention? How do we evaluate our lives when we have a shift of perception later in the game?

I think it's called 'Guilty by default' whereby, you have acted according to your good intentions and sensible reasoning but have failed to weigh up the final outcome and consequences of those actions. But I strongly feel that if someone had started out with the best intentions and then it 'all went wrong', then, you are really innocent.

Darth Vader
By being naive or through the lack of information one can make honest mistakes with your actions or words and it can be blamed on innocence. If you persist with these actions or words after you became aware of them doing harm, you are guilty.Hopefully with knowledge and experience one would avoid these mistakes.

You're getting some weird answers here! I think you're guilty, but what's done is done, unless some smart person (or a very big idiot...) invents a time-machine. I just have problems with society: who makes up this "society"? Be honest: does it change over time? Yes.

To the girl with the christian comment: God is unchangeable, unlike society. God is not influenced by money or power. He is not unfair, He's the fairest Being in the universe. Society's changes does not change Him. He is the only constant, the Bible is the only scale to which we can measure anything in this world. I hope you realise this very soon.

Guilty

Hitler thought that stuffing jews into ovens was good. He was oobviously guilty of attempted genocide.

Bluelady...
I know where your coming from and is a good question.
(If I understand it correctly ;-)

I do what I think is best, what morals I've been raised with and the learning tools to see fit , to the best of my knowledge.

Now if by luck my have it, I've done alright but if by faith, guidance's in the Lord, I know he forgives us of sin or in my case innocently mistaking good for bad.
Every mistake is a lesson in learning to do right be what you've done wrong.

In Psychology 110 at university we were taught that a person who does not realise he is doing wrong and in fact believes his actions to be good is a psychopath in need of therapy much like the leaders of the ANC.

Hmmm, like Joan of Ark (That movie)... it was so confusing coz at first I thought she's done the right thing, even history class said so. Then a flippin movie comes out and dude in a black cape says she was wrong and just acting out of vengeance...oi, oi, oi!!!

I think if your intentions were good ones and your heart was in the right place, you arent guilty. Its just society has put up certain people who decide on what is good or not (maybe fine for ethics), but isnt a higher power somewhere out there the one meant to decide?

(Maybe I've gone too far into the law...lol!)

People should be judged by their intentions and not the outcome of one's actions....
You will be innocent and guilty......
When the idea surfaces and you make your intentions known (that you want to make the world a better place) you will be a hero and the sweetest and most thoughtful person in the world...
BUT......
The plan backfires and you did more damage than repairing, the world will deem you GUILTY and you will be known as the biggest Loser in the world. But know this GOD does not judge us now, and if you have regrets then you just lay it down in front of our Heavenly Father He will forgive ANYTHING and throw it in the deepest end of the see and forget about it completely.....

jovvijo
Society judges you guilty, the crime was done whether or not you fully understood what it was you had done. You will still be punished.
(Or made into a Cabinet Minister).

How you judge yourself though, will be entirely up to you.

I agree with fathead - we have to follow the laws society put in place, we are wrong in not knowing them

fathead
Guilty. You are judged by the standards of society, not your own.

Further, you are responsible for your own misconceptions of right and wrong.

mr.mars-"H"-mallow
I guess you have to make a conscious decision when you execute your action based on the facts on hand and how you justified it at the time with what you have around you.

If you could live with that you are innocent.

kayzee
of course!you're guilty!what else?

lisa425lisa
If you're a Christian, you can brainwash yourself into thinking "no harm done".
But if you're human, you need to go back and correct your wrong doings, and fix the problems you've created. Just so that you can like yourself again.

sins
Innocent. It is the intention behind what you do that counts. Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes that we regret later on. But if you do something with good intent, I would not have guilt about it, because
it was a lack of experience/wisdom/ etc. Simply learn from your mistakes and move on.

If you measure the good you intend to do according to the guidelines given by the Lord and not your own or society's you will do only good

Person_01
