The Arabs of Canaan are the Arabs of Palestine. They were there AT LEAST EQUALLY as long as the Jews/Israelis, but they had a constant presence and a defined land. The Jews were nomadic and had NO land until what was taken from the Palestinians in 1948. Both Jews and Arabs have the same father, Abraham, whom although Semitic, possibly Hebrew, was not considered Jewish. Abraham, his parents, and his ancestry is from Babylon, which is, in fact, INSIDE the Arabian Peninsula, the origin of the Arab peoples. So he may very well have been Arab.

Palestine is a name which has been widely used since Roman times to refer to the region that includes contemporary Israel and the Palestinian territories, parts of Jordan, and parts of Lebanon and Syria. In its narrow meaning, it refers to the area within the boundaries of the former British Mandate of Palestine (1920-1948) west of the Jordan River.

Palestine can also refer to the Proposed Palestinian State.

The name and the borders of Palestine have varied throughout history, though Palestine has certain natural boundaries that justify its historical individuality. Other terms that have been used to refer to all or part of this area include Arabistan, Canaan, Greater Israel, Greater Syria, the Holy Land, Iudaea Province, Israel, "Israel HaShlema", Kingdom of Israel, Kingdom of Jerusalem, Land of Israel, Levant, Retenu (Ancient Egyptian), Southern Syria, and Syria Palestina.

Early archeological textual reference to the territory of Palestine is found in the Merneptah Stele, dated c. 1200 BCE, containing a recount of Egyptian king Merneptah's victories in the land of Canaan, mentioning place-names such as Gezer, Ashkelon and Yanoam, along with Israel, which is mentioned using a hieroglyphic determinative that indicates a nomad people, rather than a state.

The promise that is the basis of the term "promised land" is contained in Genesis 15:18-21 of the Hebrew Bible:

"On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abrham and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates - the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites."

The verse is said to describe what are known as "Borders of the Land" (Gevulot Ha-aretz). In Jewish tradition these borders define the maximum extent of the land promised to the descendants of Abraham through his son Isaac(2nd born-the Jewish lineage and Ishmael the 1st born and the Arab lineage) and grandson Jacob.Even according to Jewish customs, the oldest son, which is Ishmael, is entitled to the father's inheritance, but because Sarah despised Ishmael, she wanted Isaac to get the inheritance and had Abraham exhile Ishmael. Neither is Ishmael illegitimate but the legal son of his SECOND wife Hagar-Genesis 16: "And Sarah Abraham's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abraham had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abraham to be his WIFE(my emphasis).

The promise is made to Abraham and the descendants of his son Isaac, and Isaac's son Jacob, Abraham's grandson as they are all given promise that their descendants will be given a territory from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates river. No where does it say the Israelis/Jews OWNED the land, nor were they to take it from, and, kill the Palestinians. The Israelis/Jews were given a land ONLY to reside in as many Jews already had among the Palestinians.God clearly states whom the land belongs to-"the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites." Of all these people, only the Palestinians whom are considered Canaanites, are still around. Except for Iran and Israel, Arabs own all of what was Canaan.

Ishmael(Arab) was there FIRST, Isaac(Jew ) was there SECOND-science and the Bible agree.Arabs have been and are the MAJORITY. Up to the Bristish Mandate-Jews made up less than 5 % of the population and then swelled to 35% of the population(mostly immigranr FOREIGN JEWS with little or NO ties to the Middle East):

*According to Alexander Scholch, GERMAN JEW AND PROFESSIONAL HISTORIAN, the population of Palestine in 1850 had about 350,000 inhabitants, 30% of whom lived in 13 towns; roughly 85% were Muslims(Arabs), 11% were Christians and 4% Jews.Scholch, 1985, p. 503.

Fatima you need a history lesson Arab immigration started 1200 years ago not since biblical times and Palestinian was a term used for Jews living in the region until the state of Israel was created. Arabs that lived there called themselves Syrian Egyptian or from whichever country their recent relatives immigrated from. Palestinian as a term to describe the Arabs living in the west bank and Gaza was created by Yasser Arafat's PLO movement to create a sense of nationalism in the 60's. Before that the west bank was part of Jordan (Jordan was part of the original british mandate of palestine but Jordanians do not call themselves palestinians) and Gaza was part of Egypt. only after Israel agreed to take the west bank and Gaza in peace agreements did the Arabs start calling themselves Palestinians. It is a term created to delegitimize Israel's right to be created. Without the acknowledgment that Israel had a right to build a country the same way all the neighboring countries were built (through self determination movements) there will never be any peace. Keep demonizing the Jews and being an "Uncle Tom" for the powerful ruling class of the Arab nations that want to oppress the Jewish minority and there will never be peace.

Haddadin
it was Canaan Country witch Canaani people lived in Before Jews and Mussa.

riki
actually what you should ask is israelian ..........
there was no place called israel in that part of the world about a century ago it was all palestinian land but gews took it kick its people out and now they trying to convince the world they never existed

One in a Million
They exist and are entitled to a country, the same as Israelis and other groups. How can people demand a country and launch a movement in support of one and then people (opponents) claim they do not exist? It is obvious that Palestinians lived in the Holy Land when the Israelis landed there. That is nothing new. They have followed Islam for 1,100 years and lived in the Holy Land since at least the time of Christ and are probably descendants of Semitic tribes related to Jews (that founded the ancient Arab race).

Arabs and Jews, at least Semitic one, have the same original ancestor. Even then, if people spend sixty years demanding a country, they are surely entitled to one. They follow a different religion and also have a Christian minority, speak a different language, have their own political agenda and sense of identity. It is separate from the general Arab identity. Obviously, it makes sense to give Palestinians their own country beside Israel.

Since the Palestinians exist , the second part of your question is canceled.
@ Fatima: ya '' um Ali " my grandmother's mother went to Palestine with her husband '' my grandfather's father '' to work there and they told lots of stories about Palestine and the Palestinian generosity after they came back to lebanon.

They call Palistinians Israelis. This is WRONG. Palestine is their own country!

Arieh
They are what the UN says they are. Just like they did for the Jews in 1947.

Nathan
They do exist within their own form of judgment, and others respect their wish to be called Palestinians.

They do not recognize Israel as a true country, due to the mainstream religious beliefs of their populace and those whom are Muslim, they believe that Israel is a state country that is the usurper of the land that they now own, and that Israel would not exist if not for Western intervention.

This is true, however, all facts point to Israel being in existence before Palestine, and this is why it's an ongoing debate on morals, Religion, and politics, and also why there is so much strife in the area.

dandyl
No one said that they dont exist, what people are saying they dont exist for thousand of years, like they say they do.The term "Palestine" is believed to be derived from the Philistines, an Aegean people who, in the 12th Century B.C.E., settled along the Mediterranean coastal plain of what are now Israel and the Gaza Strip. In the second century C.E., after crushing the last Jewish revolt, the Romans first applied the name Palaestina to Judea (the southern portion of what is now called the West Bank) in an attempt to minimize Jewish identification with the land of Israel. The Arabic word "Filastin" is derived from this Latin name.Palestinian Arab nationalism is largely a post-World War I phenomenon that did not become a significant political movement until after the 1967 Six-Day War and Israel's capture of the West Bank.Prior to partition, Palestinian Arabs did not view themselves as having a separate identity. When the First Congress of Muslim-Christian Associations met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace Conference, the following resolution was adopted:

We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds.6

In 1937, a local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, told the Peel Commission, which ultimately suggested the partition of Palestine: "There is no such country [as Palestine]! 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria."7

The representative of the Arab Higher Committee to the United Nations submitted a statement to the General Assembly in May 1947 that said "Palestine was part of the Province of Syria" and that, "politically, the Arabs of Palestine were not independent in the sense of forming a separate political entity." A few years later, Ahmed Shuqeiri, later the chairman of the PLO, told the Security Council: "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria.

Israel does call them Palestinians, because thats what they call themselves.

Clyde N, stop talking nonsense.
You said...
The Arabs of Canaan are the Arabs of Palestine. They were there AT LEAST EQUALLY as long as the Jews/Israelis, but they had a constant presence and a defined land...
That's not true. Non of the original people who lived in the land we call Palestine today are alive today. There were no Arabs in Palestine at the time of the Israeli conquest. Arabs came much later.
The truth is, Israel conquered 'Palestine' from a people who no longer exist. Of course, that area has been conquered by many different nations before the Jews declared independence in 1948.
Some of you folks here talk so much nonsense that I wonder if most of you could read.

Shay p

Your question should read IF Palestinian PEOPLE...
Why people?
Compare for instance Eskimo with Palestinians.
Eskimo do have their own language-Palestinians don't.
Eskimo do have their own clothes-Palestinians don't.
Eskimo do have their own food-Palestinians don't.
Land? somebody else claims Eskimo Land?-No.
History? Who was Palestinian leader before Arafat?
And last, but not least, ask yourself how many People in the world don't have state?
Why Palestinians must have their own state risking global war?
