I can see where your going with this question but the truth is the regime WAS wrong. And the people who instigated it were fundamentally wrong. Sorry, but not hanging mandella and instead jailing him doesn't make the SA Government of the time "right" in what they did. |

If they hanged him it would of probably created more riots, more of a struggle. They just didn't want them to make "trouble" and killing an idol of the struggle could really push the struggle further.
Apartheid was bad but comparing to other wars was nothing to extreme |

For the simple reason it would have caused total Anarchy. :) |

i'm not denying apartheid was wrong but this hero worsip of mandela is wrong. the man was originally imprisioned for bombing a white only shopping centre. what is the difference between this & attacks by the ira or islamic extremists etc? |

I don't know, but if it wasn't so bad, why did the world protest against it?
P.S. Where did you get all this crapy information from? |

Didn't they torture, abuse, imprison and kill many others? Would Mandela be so in the forefront and so famous if some of them had of lived? What about Steve Biko? Just because Mandela survived, does not take away from all that the Apartheid SA government did to others. Mandela is just a "poster child" really, to represent everything that happened... an icon or relic from that era in SA history.
It was not a deliberate "mercy act" on their part, so why should we give them credit? |

Chris..... how old are you?
What would hanging Mandela have done if not worsen the situation that South Africa found herself in? |

They couldn't hang him, although Im sure if they did things would have been a lot worse than they are now. Too much international pressure I guess. Same as if they ever catch Osama Bin Laden. Bunny huggers would have a huge out cry.
Wait until the day he dies and then see what happens. This is what our future is. Violence and crime and reverse apartheid against white people with the justification that 'it was done to them'. |

My question is in the apartheids years they jailed people like Mandela because that is what was part of law and order, which doesn't make it right but still they were obeying the law in south africa
These days white people gets murdered just because they are white, they wont take anything they will rape white woman just because they are white.
Now my question is where is that written that they can do that.
What makes what they are doing today to the white people right.
People is quick to judge the Apartheids years but no one is saying a word about the Slater that is going on today, the refusing of employing the white people, this is not wrong?
Taking aways most of the white peoples tradition, this is not Wong?
Why judge the past when you can make a change to the future? |

.If they did that we would not be communicating today.
South Africa would have been in ashes. The apartheid Government was evil but not stupid. |

There is a simple explanation for it. The Supreme Court sentenced him to life imprisonment. The Government had to respect the judgement of the court. |

According to the same logic, was OK since he allowed a few Jews to live. |

This is easy, because the racist white airheads knew that what they were doing was wrong so there was a lot of hidden guilt, which now they say only sorry. What Mr Mandela did and what the white racist government did were the same thing, they also bombed and tortured black people, was this right but what Mr Mandela wrong ai ai ai? |
