If the Palestinians?

get their own country, will there be peace? Will the rockets and suicide bombers stop? I am curious because this is the ultimate goal, right?

Just a reminder that the peace conference is tomorrow in Maryland. It is in my prayers!

i am doubtful

and no, suicide bombings have not stopped since january. look it up in haaretz, ynet, or another paper-- you will see how many attacks have been stopped by the israeli police. trust me, a car full of explosives intended for detonation in tel aviv was blown up here by the bomb squad very recently..

good question-- like you, i really hope it stops. peace is the ultimate goal..but look at the PLO and hamas charters. how can you say they want peace, when they say that they do not want peace?

i'll still work for it, and hopefully change the minds of the palestinians

B بغداد
i hope so, otherwise both the palestinian authorities and the israeli authorities should work together to weed out those extremists that create instability and bring them to justice.

Suicide bombing stopped a long time ago (the last suicide bombing was in January). As for the rockets, that is what I am afraid of is that Hamas keep launching them. I hope they become humans ans stop launching rockets.

Peace

Michael J
In my opinion clearly not. We perhaps would all like to delude ourselves that peace can be achieved so easily, yet we forget that this supposed cause existed only from 1967. Prior to 1967, there was still war which should at least give us pause before we assume that a Palestinian country is the only barrier to peace. The land the Palestinians declare as theirs and the site of there country was in Arab hands for 20 years before Israel took it in the 1967 war. In that time, there was no significant movement to declare an independent country for the Palestinian people. In fact, there was not even widespread support for the concept of a Palestinian people. The Jordanians for example declared the Palestinians just Jordanians and annexed the West Bank. There was no terror in response to this annexation, however interestingly enough there was Palestinian terror against Israel (this before Israel was 'occupying' anything). In light of this can we really assume that the ONLY cause for conflict is the lack of a Palestinian state? The cause to destroy Israel for no other reason then to eradicate a Jewish presence has been ever present since even before the founding of Israel. To assume that this drive has simply evaporated ignores both history and the present. Hamas calls for the destruction of Israel above all else; the PA charter mimics this call even today. Even though Palestinians in Gaza received everything they demanded - 100% of the area with no concessions asked - rockets continue to rain down on Israel from there. The Palestinian state may be A cause for conflict, but certainly not the only one and thus not the only barrier to peace.

If you can show me an example where an increase in sovereignty has resulted in a decrease in violence between Israelis and Palestinians....

Thus far history has proven the opposite to be true.

Until that changes I will be pessimistic about any postive ouctome.

If Hamas is allowed an independent state and given a bunch of money, which I'm sure is part of the deal, would they build with it.
Would they build better power stations or improve the water situation. Schools maybe?
Or would it be factories to build better Rockets and ammo and gun making facilities?
Would Jews be allowed to walk the streets without being molested or persecuted?
could news crews be allowed to report and not worry about being held hostage for months?
Someone earlier said the suicide bombers have stopped, none since January. That wasn't very long ago and they sure haven't stopped digging tunnels, and why do you think they dig them?

Ultra N
Look at it this way: The "Palestinians" in Gaza are the lab rats, and Gaza itself is a test tube, a maze, the system.
Now about two years ago, Israel decided to do an "experiment" in which they gave Gaza to the "Palestinians" to see what would happen. Would there be peace? A decrease in violence at least? Nope.

The result has been more rockets, more rockets, more mortars, more mortars, and more attempted suicide attacks.

So give them a whole country, so what? Instead of throwing rockets are they gonna throw flowers and olive wreaths? BS. They will continue to kill Israelis until they believe they have destroyed all the Jews. In Fatah and Hamas' charter, Israelis and Jews are used interchangeably. Which means they would like to kill them all.

paperback_writer
The Palestinians said that if they got Gaza, there would be less violence and terrorism.

The minute the Israelis pulled out of Gaza, Hamas went mad, beheading all its' rivals in Fatah and killing people in cold blood. The Palestinians were terrified, understandably.

Now, from Gaza, there are constant rocket attacks on Israel; the town of Sderot is suffering particularly badly.

Does that help to answer a bit?

MICHAEL J - great answer.

HopelessZ00
Suicide bombers cut down about 2 years ago as for Islamic Jihad , hopefully Hamas will be able and begin to control them , Cheers!

EU Citizen
Thats a tough question here is why, currently the militias get their weapons smuggled in Via Egypt.

The Militias fuel the instability, they compete and vie for power and in the abscense of leadership or with a very weak leadership such as Hamas, they do a power grab that is they fight and all the stuff while Hamas is doing its own thing to.

For their to be peace and a palestinian state there has to be a disarmament of the militias in the area, that would mean full cooperation from Border countries such as Egypt,Lebanon,Jordan and Syria to stop the flow of weapons and monies.

Same for Fatah they are supplied to by the USA and Israel, not all the weapons gets to the "security forces"

no because right now terrorists are not only attacking Israel but also Spain, France, England many other countries in Europe. there will never be peace with Islamic terrorists because their ultimate goal is to take over the world.

Hi Piyara,

The Palestinian people do have their own country. It is called Palestine. It is the zionists that do not. Have you heard of the saying, "A country without a people, for a people without a country?" It is the zionist saying. Of course it was one of their propaganda pieces but it does highlight that it is they who don't have a country.

Have you also seen how the zionists are trying with all their might to get the Palestinians to accept israel? That is to recognise the country? But 60 years later the Palestinian have refused. Have you any idea why this is so important to the zionists? Because they don't have a country, and in their black hearts, they need the Palestinians to recognise them. It doesn't matter if every other country in the world suddenly recognised them: it is only the Palestinian people that mean anything; because they (the Zionists) recognize that the Palestinian people are the true owners of the land.

Tough luck israel. You will notice that I spell your name with a small i. That is because I don't recognise you either.

Ok, I want to say one more thing. If the zionists want peace in the Holy land; I mean if they are very genuine, they should go back to Germany and Russia; and they should lawfully apply, through the Palestinian government, for Palestinian citizenship.

ÐÅ MÅN ☺ ☻
when the opressors pay for what they have done, than will come the peace

oh and thanks for the thumbs down in advance
