One of two places.

1) Giza, it is vibrant smells of fresh bread and fruit, even for westerners' (if open minded) it is a wonderful place and contrary to common belief there are bars to be found (not the tourist type in hotels).
The people are warm and friendly, once they get to know you.

2) Thebes, (Luxor) again all of the above plus it has the sea, and if it is what you want a tourist area.

Drawbacks, Giza like Cairo can become very oppressive during the summer months and quite cold at times during the winter.

Luxor, again during the summer months very hot, but the winter is much more clement than Cairo.

Edit.
No Elsie, I mean the weather can be quite oppressive....... the heat can be almost intolerable, particularly near the water when you get the humidity. They don't care how the tourists dress. Not all Arabs are muslims.

When you went to the Pyramids in Giza, just before the cross roads near the entrance to the Pyramids, on the right is where I lived. About a ten minute walk to the big cafe where they have the light show.

Alexandria - probably the most cosmopolitan city in Egypt. All my Egyptian friends are there. Its not as grubby and run down as Cairo. You will like Luxor, but it does get VERY HOT!

Next to the pyramids. Imagine waking up to see them every day ♥

iv only been to sharm and plan on living there when im older. i hear cairo and luxor are very nice though, wouldnt mind waking up to see the pyramids + nile each morning : )

Laughteraddict
I would live in Luxor, i went recently and for a tourist town it feels nothing like it.
Its on the nile and is soo beautiful, its a nice quiet city, everyone is really nice and friendly it is so unlike cairo.
It is a bit warmer than the northern cities.

Seen it all before
aswan is nice

quite laid back

if i had to live in a hotel - the old catarract (the one used in death on the nile) a bit past it's best (rough around the edges) but great location and history.....

i stayed there on my last trip to egypt (i have been there twice )

The Wail of a Banshee
I have only been to Egypt once , i went on a Nile cruise starting at Aswan and up to Luxor . I did fly to Cairo when i was there and i thought the whole place was amazing . I wasn't scared to walk about there unlike the UK ,Spain and America . You are right Elsie the people are lovely and i think Luxor would be a great place to live , cheap too.
Superstar i have lived and worked in Spain for 4 years and i am on holiday still , each day i wake up to the sunshine and i love it , life doesn't have to be a drudge just because you live in a particular place , lighten up you might enjoy yourself.

Dubai coz you get to pay no tax AT ALL!

Dubai, (in Arabic: دبيّ‎, transliteration: dubaīy) can either refer to one of the seven emirates that constitute the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the eastern Arabian Peninsula, or that emirate's main city, sometimes called "Dubai city" to distinguish it from the emirate.

The modern emirate of Dubai was created with the formation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. However, written accounts documenting the existence of the city have existed at least 150 years prior to the formation of the UAE. Dubai shares legal, political, military and economic functions with the other emirates within a federal framework, although each emirate has jurisdiction over some functions such as civic law enforcement and provision and upkeep of local facilities. Dubai has the largest population and is the second largest emirate by area, after Abu Dhabi. With Abu Dhabi, it is one of only two emirates to possess veto power over critical matters of national importance in the country's legislature. Dubai has been ruled by the Al Maktoum dynasty since 1833. The emirates' current ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is also the Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE.

A majority of the emirate's revenues are from trade, manufacturing and financial services. Revenues from petroleum and natural gas contribute less than 6% (2006) of Dubai's US$ 37 billion economy (2005). Dubai has attracted world-wide attention through innovative real estate projects and sports events. This increased attention, coinciding with its emergence as a world business hub, has also highlighted human rights issues concerning its largely foreign workforce. Here are some pics on Dubai.

You can also take a ferry to Luxur, Aswan or Ciaro

I have NEVER EVER seen anyone go to egypt and say that it is not good.

Most people like the Giza because they think its fascinating, it is very fascinating and i've been there once and its REALLY BIG, the rocks for the pyramids are HUGE!!!

STAR*

PS/. Do not listen to Miss Behavin or Supertar- they dont know what its like because ive been to The Giza, Ciaro, Luxor and Aswan and they where the best times of my life!

Have fun and remember me if you go anywhere!
