I would suggest the illiteracy problem that has plagued Egypt. You can speak about why there's illiteracy, what class is especially illiterate (what age group, gender etc...), what the problem with illiteracy is and how the problem can be solved. You can compare and contrast with other countries as well.

You can write about the Aswan Dam or the Suez Canal. These are topics that don't hit on Ancient Egypt, but are encompassed with a lot of historical material and deal more with nodern rather than ancient Egypt.

How about current events? You can't get more modern than that! All the political unrest, the strikes, the struggle for basic necessities such as bread, demands for higher pay ... You can find a ton of info on the net or in the papers, more than enough to write your five pages. Good luck!

I would write about the fact that Egyptians who are in charge of taking care of Egypt are busy with trivial stuff rather than facing the real problems and kill it, like this 7elwan governorate thing that they want to join maadi into and uneven distribution as well as the misuse of resources among different facilities and locations in Egypt.

You should write it on the sudden disappearance of the Egyptians. This also links to the Sahara being a dense forest then desert more than once. They say climate dried the Nile so they could not survive. But when It came back were did they go?

I once wrote a five page paper on the pyramids...but if you want to do something modern, you could always do pyramid restoration or something.

Whatever you right about, you should mention how they have ridiculous subsidies. They have little cards or whatever (like U.S. food coupons) that they can use to get some items (food, others, I'm not sure which exactly) for "free", like people in the U.S. can use food coupons for food... Only in Egypt, they considered it unethical to give the cards only to the poor, and instead they gave them to everyone, and everyone can use these subsidies now, including the rich. Now, I know Syria has a similar system, and I read a quote about how in Syria, a rich family will use the subsidies to get 10 liters of fuel a day to heat their swimming pool, while the poor family will only use 10 liters in an entire year for their motorbike or something. So maybe if you write about the economy of Egypt, mention how their subsidies are actually hurting the poor because the rich families are using a greater dollar amount of the subsidies and thus putting a huge strain on the economy while not leaving the poor with too much subsidies to use for themselves.

ask for a research on Egyptian members of the Yahoo Qs and As , what they are interested in, where they get encouraged or disencouraged to be free in expressing their opinion , how they are similar or different from other categories , how they take it when their accounts are deleted , their Qs are deleted , etc.
