dont worry. you will be alright. ONLY IF YOU VOTE ME AS BEST ANSWER:)

yasser there is absolutely nothing to worry about at all. I am a muslim and know many many muslims in SA. We have absolutely no problem at all. In fact here is SA, people walk around with purdahs (veil) and no one gives them a second glance. My mom is one of them so I would know. You find bearded and cloaked muslims every were in shopping malls, at the beach, at the amusement parks. I have never in my entire life experianced a problem or know anyone who has. Its a beautiful country and can never comprehend the prospect of muslims being a target. The crime rate is super high so u gotta be street smart, let your hair down to have some serious fun. But its worth the trip I promise.

Contrary to what the answer above states, most of the people in SA are not Muslim. However, you shouldn't have any problems on this front as Muslim people are in no way targets in SA.

What you should perhaps be a little more afraid of is the generally sky high crime rate that affects everyone - Muslim, Christian, Black, and White alike.

Take care whilst there.

Don't you worry. Compared to places like Europe and the USA, Muslims in South Africa do not have to be scared to be assaulted, picked on and discriminated There is - especially in Cape Town a very large Muslim population. In this city, where I live, Muslim, Christians and Jews live side by side and I have never heard of a campaign against Muslims. So dont worry and come over! You will love it! If you are in Cape Town, I can recommend the Bo-Kaap tour. The Bo-Kaap is a traditional Muslim quarter in Cape Town's city centre with loads of culture, history and great people.

Be aware of crime though, as crime is - LIKE EVERY WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD - present in Cape Town and can hit everyone, not only muslims.

Malan
I have a Muslim as a friend and he experiences no problems in SA and in my school of 1200 children (he's the only Muslim in my school). Never been a victim of crime in SA.

(Wat interessant is... Hy't grootgeword in Carnavon in die Noord-Kaap en praat vlot Afrikaans! :)

Here by us we accept people for who they are and everybody is treated on the same level. There is no need for you to be scared because muslim are not the target of crime or anything is South Africa. Come and see its a great place.

J-berg is not a great city, I would generally stay away. Cape Town however is wonderful. Much of Africa is muslim, I wouldn't worry.

Zanizibar in Tanzania is predominantly Muslim.

Nothing to worry about. No one is discriminated against over there.

alia_vahed
muslims are not targets in south africa. we have too much of our own history, generally white/black conflict.

If the cause for concern is Islamophobia, rest assured, you will not have to deal with the rising anti-Islamic sentiments as are in evidence in the USA, UK and the rest of Europe.

On the other hand crime (not the religion driven kind directed at certain faiths) is a problem in South Africa. You should take the relevant precautions when coming here. Having said that, South Africa is the not the war zone certain Yahoo Answers users make it out to be.

Take care and you should be fine.

only americans sh1t their pants when they see a muslim

You should be terrified as the Country is a seething cauldron of violent crime. Muslims are only singled out for special treatment in Cape Town where more than 30 Somalis have been murdered in the last 2months. Nobody is safe in South Africa regardless of Religion and they have the highest violent crime rate in the World of ny Country not at War. Even the Heads of the African Continent , which is filled with poverty and wars, have found it neccessary to speak out to the Regime in SA about the crime and corruption in South Africa. Find a safer place to live as it is not a matter of if you will be a victim of crime but when. Be careful for those ( and there are many) who say crime is everywhere. They have been conditioned into believing murder, rape, car jackings ,assaults, armed robberies, cannabilism are normal and think this is how it is in the civilised World.
