No..u don't have to change it at all
SOME do change it after converting to Islam ,as they love a character in the Islamic culture ...like Saydah Khadeeja / Aeisha (Prophet's (SAWS) wives) or one of His daughters' names, or one of the female companions ...........
OTHERS change their names just as a token they've started a new life & are reborn ,so they choose another name

it's totally up to you .... u don't have to, if u like ur name

let me tell you something, in Islam Allah doesn't look at the person's name, look, color or what ever.

I'm originally Muslim my father and my mother are muslims, and my name is Rita.

So if you like your name keep it, it's nothing important honey.

first welcome to Islam, and thx Allah that he has guided you el hamdo lellah.

i don't think the first companions to the prophet Muhammad (S) have changed their names much, such as bilal or Omar. However, if your name was like "abd el maseeh" or something that goes against God, then it's recommended to change your name. because we will be called by our names in the day of judgement.

1) Give good names to children. A hadith mentions to name your child Abdur-Rahman. However it is not necessary to give these very names. This, Prophet (S.A.W.) had named his grand children Husan and Husayn (R.A.). He changed a name if it had a wrong connotation.

2) The Hadith says that the names dear to Allah are Abdullah, Abdur Rahman. However in these times people omit the word Abd call a person Rahman instead of Abdur Rahman, Karim instead of Abdul Karim. This is 'insulting' (as the only beneficiary is Allah!) so it is better to avoid such names but if anyone keeps these names then he must call with the full name Abdur Rahman. If anyone calls without Abd then the ruling must be explained to him then and there and asked to call with Abd as mentioned in Rudd al-Muhtar and Alamgiri.

The names of Prophet, Ahmad, Muhammad and Ibrahim are also preferred.

3) Names of the Prophets (A.S.) and the companions (R.A.) should be chosen for children. Or names which have Abd before Alah, or Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem, Al-Karim Al-Sattar, etc. The prophet (S.A.W.) has said:

Imam Bukhari (RA) has included the following subtitle in his Sahih, 'Chapter on the fact that the people will be called by their father's name'. Under this chapter, he has recorded the narration of Sayyiduna ibn Umar, Radi-Allahu anhu, that Rasulullah said, 'Verily, a banner will be raised for the treacherous person on the day of Qiyamat and it will be proclaimed, 'This is the treachery of so and so, the son of so and so.' (Sahih Bukhari Hadith6177)

I'm also a revert. You only need to change your name if it means something that contradicts with your faith. For example if your name was "Christian" you should change it.

Some people want to change their names to confirm their new beliefs but it's certainly not essential.
