It is a country where the majority of the population are followers of Islam. But, it is not a secular Islamic country and there is a big difference.
Because a high percentage of Egyptian people are followers of a more moderate and liberal form of Islamic belief they are very tolerant. It also seems to be a natural trait in Egyptian people anyway.
There are of course some that adhere to stricter forms of Islamic belief.
I know a quite a few of the guys enjoy the odd Stella (beer) or too.
This is where a lot of us Westerners make a wrong judgement of Islam.
I can only use this comparison. we have the Catholic and Protestant churches of Christianity. We also have several ,quite radical and fundamentalist breakaways sects.
This is what has happened with Islam.
It is like blaming all Christians, because the Seventh Day Adventist's would rather see their children die, than have another
persons blood enter their body via transfusion.
I think the sooner we can understand that, and realise that what we see in the media, is a very small radical number of a faith that has millions of followers.Of which around 99% of who couldn't care less about politics.

Islam is the predominant religion, but there is a Coptic Christian minority as well.

I've never personally been to Egypt, but every country/society will have its good and bad elements. It's all a balancing act... some parents are wise/kind/good with children, some parents are cruel/selfish/bad with children. How are these children going to grow up? Some people are well-balanced, some people have difficulty coping with much of life. Almost all people are good in their unique way, or at least, everyone's born with that potential. A country is made up of people, some of which have more power than others.

If you're in power, you carry the huge responsibility of what's best for everyone (but you probably won't please everyone). Maybe some people have had to compromise their ideals because of economic practicality. It all comes down to, how can you meet your needs and live the most fulfilling life possible (but people may find inspiration/happiness in different places)?

Egypt has a very complicated history and nature ... you can't give it a unique definition.

Although the majority of the population is Sunni Muslims, they follow a good moderate religious mode which makes religion an important part of life but not all life.

In addition, there are Christians in Egypt ... they are the minority but they aren't so little.

Egypt has mixed identities ... nowadays the evolving identity is the Islamic one but it wasn't before.

Since u call urself an "EGYPTIAN" u know very well that its a Muslim country, but this not what u r implying for. let me answer ur question, as a major tourist country like any "ARAB' & "MUSLIM" country, it has to serve the needs of tourists i.e.: serve alcohol, & pork and also having casinos. I'm not saying that this is a good thing, I myself wouldn't work in such places. But lets put it that way, u know very well that Egypt depends on very few sources of income, and tourism is one big source. so what can we do, prohibit the trade of alcohol and pork, and risk not having tourists again. or leave it optional for ppl either to work in such industries, and at the same time satisfy our guests. I donā€™t know, its a dilemma to be very honest.

Yes about 85% muslim
As far as the issues that you mentioned it is probably happening all over only maybe behind closed doors or manybe someone travels out of a strict country to do some of those things.

Yes Egypt is part of the Arab world so of course it is Muslim. The country is over 99% Muslim. There is 1% Christians there. I used to have lots of male Egyptian friends before I got married so I know this. Also alcohol and pig are not in Egypt.

Applying Islam is far away in Egypt. you can find that easily when walking around in any street.
