i am coptic and been to egypt and know the culture. If you are white it is isint safe. been to a public shoping area and they were playing anti american song and everbody got excited. they hate americans. just to let you know.

This is not true The Egyptian Muslims and Christians live very well together. They live, work, and have friendships together. There is no difference in the treatment of getting jobs they work in the same offices together to be honest you may see it as the other way round specially for Muslim women who wear hijab some find it is hard to be employed wearing hijab.

As for safety as you are American you will have no problem Egypt is very safe with a lower crime rate than the US and other western countries. Tourists visit everyday and there are many people from America, Italy, UK, Australia, Russia all over the world living in Egypt permanently some have relationships with Egyptians some just love Egypt so much. The Egyptians are very welcoming and friendly and it doesn't matter if you are Christian or from any country they treat you how you treat them and your personality like any friendship or community. Being American you will find employment easy you are more likely to get work as a receptionist as they like an attractive western woman on show in reception.

I don't know why your friend has being telling you this there are no problems between the two religions. If they receive or experience any problems i don't think it will be to do with being Christians maybe it is them personally. I don't know anyway come and enjoy living in Egypt and experience the culture and the way of life and you can tell your friend. I think it would be a shame if you are put of by your friends words as this is not true.

I'm Muslim .... i was raised in a Coptic school ..... about 70% of my friends are Christians ..... EVEN my BEST friend is a Christian
And my neighbors are Christians also .... we live together with COMPLETE love & respect

So what your friend tells you is a lie ......

Because, there are some Egyptian Christians in America ... they are trying to ruin the image of Egypt to the American people & Governmet, in order to penetrate the political & social situations in Egypt by the " forces " that America have on Egypt
I wonder why they do that to their Home-land ??

About the work & employment .....
The problem of Un-employment in Egypt is a MAJOR problem for ALL Egyptians (( BOTH Muslims & Christains )) suffers from that problem ......

About safety of the Tourists ....
Egypt is COMPLETELY SAFE ..... as we call it (( Egypt is the land of safety & security )) ....
I wish you come to visit Egypt one day .... and you will see how the police men here are taking care of tourists AND how the Egyptian people are very kind & friendly to the tourists

So what your friend told you is a BIG FAT lie .... the relation between Muslims & Christians is good

Bushshit, all this is not true, i'm italian and i live in egypt. This country is called the land of peace. ask ur friend how many CHURCHES in egypt, in egypt they don't care where u come from, they are very welcome people, and for sure there are many bad people like in italy or usa or the rest of the world u find good and bad, CHRISTIANS work in police and government, doctors, thieves, same like muslims.
never believe till u see with ur own eyes, so try and come to see how this ppl live and how safe the counrty is.

Well! ..I dont know why they want to deform Egypt that way! .. We live peacefully,we are both Egyptians, if he is trying to give you that image maybe because he is the one who wants to leave Egypt for some impermanent reasons like Economical conditions and things like this!
Christians number ain't small ..They are like 9 or 10 Millions in Egypt! as we The Muslims got Jobs as he says ...They got theirs as well! .. Maybe there might be a lil bit of discrimination but not to that extent he mentioned! PLUS you will find discrimination in everywhere on Earth!
My advice,Come see the REAL Egypt by your own eyes and I bet you'll love it from the depth of your heart! if you are afraid of coming ..ask American who had been here. Btw I got a friend of mine who came Egypt 5 times and she is American and she stayed in our HOME! and if you wanna CONTACT her to tell you about Egypt that would be nice and I dont mind at all ... that even would please me! :)..

I don't know which "Egypt" exactly is your friend living in.

It is true that Egypt is not a perfect place; but there's no perfect place on earth.

The discrimination against Coptic Christian is true but are you one? Unemployment is high in Egypt and most graduates could hardly get a decent job, so if you're going to live on a local job there, you will need a great amount of luck! Try to get an expatriate post if you can.

My husband and I are Muslim and he has many coptic friends and I have a few...but back when I was still job hunting I had trouble because I wear a hijaab, and the companies wanted Christian girls or at least girls without hijaab to work in the office, the same goes for alot of the international schools...and if you are Muslim it is nearly impossible to get a job at the American Embassy which is by the way one of the highest paying jobs for americans here...they prefer christians..seriously, you will see ..if you go there. I think what is happening, isn't so much that your friends are lying...but maybe that they just haven't been here for a while????
But I will tell you...please try to learn some egyptian Arabic before you come, if you haven't already, because it is alot harder to find a job that only needs english. Most jobs require some minimal translation at least..or at least being able to negotiate with drivers and visitors to the workplace/office and so on...

Both are living the same problems in Egypt. I don't know why specially Egyptian Christians who lives in USA, always say that ! .. they are the only Egyptian Christians on earth ? they are all experts in these matters and can make good statistics and analyze it ? are they paid for that or pushed for it ?
All these questions has no answer right now, but later it'll be known for everybody. My Advice is you come and visit Egypt. If you are going to marry an Egyptian, you are lucky. Don't listen to those people who may be Egyptians only by name.
There are many people can't live in Egypt and they prefer the American life style, while there are others preferring the opposite. I know many Americans who loves their life in Egypt and many Egyptians hate it and likes the American life. This is life.

i think the best thing for you to do is to do some research of you own and find out the answer for yourself. and maybe plan a trip to egypt. many of the egyptians here have told me that the christians and the muslims live together and are essentially the same people. and yeah sure there is some discrimination when it comes to jobs.. and even more discrimination when it comes to jail.... but for me to understand what they want me to understand i have been planning to go to egypt for the summer and finding out what i would like to find out for myself. and as far as the gov. they discriminate towards the people in gen.

No its not true. And its very safe for an American to live here actually egypt is safer tha the USA ..And about the jobs Christians are about 8 million and Muslims are 71 million..so for sure muslims take more cause there is a huge difference in number ..can u get it ?! Plus most of the unemployed here are muslims not christians.

No, Egypt isn't as bad as your Christian Coptic friends keep trying to tell you. They are lying. What they are saying is dishonourable and you should never trust anyone who explicitly and intentionally criticizes his own country in such a negative way. We all have comments and hope that improvements will take place, but to subvert the truth like this isn't patriotic at all.
In Egypt Christians and Muslims are treated equally for the simple reason that they are Egyptians. You might find discrimination as an exception, but it certainly isn't the rule. And I don't think that these exceptions should be generalized because it simply isn't true.
I think that if you come to Egypt, you'll love it and you'll see for yourself that you have been deceived. Here Christians and Moslems live peacefully as friends, neighbours, co-workers, and as schoolmates. And let me tell you sthg, you'll find many Christians working under the supervision of moslems and many moslems working under the supervision of christians.
It is really friends like yours who twist the truth and spread a negative picture of Egypt abroad.
Again, come see for yourself.

there are some Kinds of decrimination to Coptics in Egypt,but for employment NO, egypt in general suffer from unemplyment high rate.
