If you are speaking about today's headlines regarding Iran now has missile capability and they can reach well past Israel. You must remember that one month ago Israel was showing off their military might in exercises by showing that they are well capable of bombing Iran's nuclear energy plants. Kind of sounds like the cold war. Back and forth. Peace!

Every bit as serious as the folks who post here every day that Israel ought to be history - except that Iran has a serious arsenal of weapons, not just a keyboard in mom's basement. Of course, wanting to wipe Israel off the map and doing it are two very different things.

The people who talk about mistranslations are being disingenuous. Official Iranian government websites posted the "wipe off the map" translation, not just Western media. I do not speak Arabic, and am not sure whether or not the little Hitler with the beard meant something less belligerent in Arabic when he talked about, perhaps, in a more accurate translation, removing Israel from the pages of history. I don't think he did. He sometimes says he wants to remove Israel politically, not militarily, but the missiles and nuclear program have to be taken seriously. As Saeqeh points out, though, we do not know that Iran actually intends to take military action to remove Israel from the map.

One thing is certain; Iran wants all Palestinian refugees and their several generations of descendants to participate, along with Israelis, in a vote as to whether Israel ought to be eliminated in favor of a single Palestinian state. In this election, Arabs would greatly outnumber Israelis, there would be no two-state solution, Israel would no longer exist as a country, and the intended result would be a great big country of Palestine. This would, clearly, remove Israel from all world maps.

In the wars that took place in the region since 1990 , Israel was attacked by missiles
to make an obvious pressure on the west to change their course of thinking . Saddam attacked , Hezbollah attacked and Hamas attacked as well . Iran logically will be attacking Israel if Israel attacked Iran . but from similar situations i know that these missile attacks will not really change anything . Israel doesn't produce oil . so the effect inflicted will not be significant unless the Israeli nuclear plant is hit or if the missiles had mass destruction heads .
wiping Israel off the map is a possibility only if mass destruction weapons were used .

I am convinced when they say this, they don't mean literally killing all israelis, i believe what they mean is Bring Palestine back on the map! as Israel is a country that was founded on Palestinians territory in 1948!

Plus i think Iran or any human being is smart enough to know that if a nuke is shot at Israel it will also wipe Egypt, Lebanon & Jordan off the map!

I would apply a little common sense. It very unlikely that anything they have in the way of offensive military hardware would be comparable to the world's sixth largest nuclear arsenal. From all the kill-now-quick rhetoric flying out of Tel Aviv it is patently obvious who is planning to wipe who off the map. Except a zionist attack on Iran,not the other way around. Again,it is really a matter of common sense.

I doubt it. 1. they don't have the delivery methods; 2. they have a long way to go between Iran and Palestine with less than friendly governments controlling the approaches; 3)they cannot afford the sacrifice to deliver.

That is an old claim that was a purposeful mistranslation; used as propaganda. The accurate translation was to wipe away the political borders.

Recently Iran made a statement that they will "set fire" to ersatz israel. This statement is a serious one made in response to israel's constant threats of war over the last year.

Iran has a large stockpile of Russian made Sunburn missiles. You can research then. If Iran is attack, they will defend themselves. I don't know if they have the capability to win but I do know, they have the capability to do significant damage. A damaged ersatz israel will be like a bloody piece of meat; sure to attract the circling wolves of the Middle East.

Iran seriously gives financial and military support to Hezbollah and any other party (political or otherwise) that wishes to destroy Israel. Can Iran seriously accomplish this goal is a different matter, but Iran has certainly given many idications that it would wish it could. The new Iranian capability to hit Israeli with these missiles they have produced and effectively testing is another cause of concern, but anyone watching the situation has known that at some point Iran would have this ability.

Most likely not. The more rational explanation for why Iran would say this is to try to get under the United States' and the rest of the worlds' skins and rattle them around a bit. I highly doubt that Iran would be serious about such a claim because it would enrage several of the biggest weapon powers in the world, including (most likely), the United States, Great Britian, France, and maybe some other countries and it would end up in a massive war between them.

Would they like to do that? Yes, absolutely. Are they capable of doing it? Not if the U.S. stood behind Israel. Iran and most of the other Arab and Muslim countries have enough money to "buy" the destruction of Israel.

They have not do it yet because of the U.S. support. Israel has a fantastic military, but the Arab counties have so much money and so many people that they could do the job if they could just get organized.

It is interesting to note that all the Arabs and Muslims want is the total destruction of Israel. All Israel wants is peace.

Which seems better? Hmmmmm.

I think that Iran would want to. But wanting and getting are two different things. We will see if Iran wants to suffer the same embarrassment that Israel dealt to Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. But then again the way they live their life out of that book I'm not so sure common sense will prevail for their well being.

yes it is. the mullahs hate the Jews(any Jew) it is part of there particular Islamic belief system.Remember that the Persians were Nazi allies in WW2 and even had a brigade in there army. the top leaders want an middle east free of any other religion but there own(they do not like the Saudis,or Egyptians). Regarding the translation of the wipe Israel off the map speech, that has come under debate by apologetics. I am of the camp that behavior of Iran overall has to be considered and a debate over the "semantics" of Achmadinijad's speech does not undermine the fact they want Israel's destruction. Iran tried to back out of that speech and offer up explanation. I find it interesting that within that "explanation' the crowd then goes on to chant "Death to" Everybody. I believe that any country that currently has nuclear capability needs to remain stable, while countries that are unstable need to be prevented from acquiring nuclear capability. The Arab and Muslim world is a flashpoint that needs to be stabilized and yes I take those threats seriously as I believe they mean what they say.
