How would that be committing suicide for Israel. Israel has the greater military might - the reality is what a tragedy that it got to this place. I feel sad that so many will die.

I wouldnt call it suicide,if israel can destroy the professional armies of multiple arab states at once they can easily handle these slime,but then again the armies in 67 didnt hide behind children.

Israel is probobly not planning to commit suicide this summer but they do have a plan that was developed and talked about since the 1960's. It is called Israel's Samson Plan based on the Jewish (Hebrew) biblical character known as Samson who was deceived by the Philistine beautiful woman known as Delilah who found out that Samson's strength was in his hair and therefore that was how he was able to protect the tribes of Israel from the Philistines who were their enemies.

Samson as you remember had amazing strength and therefore the Philistines could do no harm to the ancient Israelite nation. When Delilah found out she got Samson drunk and had his hair shaved off thereby taking away Samson's strength then Samson was chained to the Philistine king's palace pillars which was holding up the Ceiling of the Palace. Samson prayed to the Hebrew God of Abraham Issac and jacob and asked for his strength one more time from the Lord in order that he might destroy the Philistine King and rulers and bring honor to the Lords name again. So the Lord gave him his strength again and he toppled the pillars and the ceiling caved in and everyone inside was killed even including Samson. Samson committed suicide rather than accepting defeat and enslavement at the hands of the Philistines.

So likewise the modern day Israel is much like Samson. If Israel feels threatened with extinction or the possibility of capture and another 6 million holocaust episode repeating itself again then Israeli leaders since the time of the 1960's have threatened trhe world with the Samson plan.Only today instead of physical strength of one man (Ancient Samson) israel will use it's arsenal of at least 400 nuclear weapons against the major capitals of the world and it's enemies. Israel is capapbel of commititng world wide genocide and killing themselves along with the rest of the world in order to prevent themselves from being overrun and captured and defeated by it's enemies.

Some people feel that is one reason why the USA and most of western Europe go pretty much along with what ever Israel wants to do concerning the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab/Islamic world

The original conception of the Samson Option was only as deterrence. According to American journalist Seymour Hersh and Israeli historian Avner Cohen Israeli leaders like David Ben-Gurion, Shimon Peres, Levi Eshkol and Moshe Dayan created the term in the mid-1960s. They named it after the Biblical figure Samson, who is said to have pushed apart the pillars of a Philistine temple, bringing down the roof and killing himself and thousands of Philistines who had gathered to see him humiliated. They contrasted it with ancient siege of Masada where 936 Jewish Sicarii greatly outnumbered by Roman legions committed mass suicide rather than be defeated and enslaved by the Romans.[12]

Although nuclear weapons were viewed as the ultimate guarantor of Israeli security, as early as the 1960s the country avoided building its military around them, instead pursuing absolute conventional superiority so as to forestall a last resort nuclear engagement.[13]

Seymour Hersh writes that the "surprising victory of Menachem Begin's Likud Party in the May 1977 national elections...brought to power a government that was even more committed than Labor to the Samson Option and the necessity of an Israeli nuclear arsenal."[14]

Louis RenĂ© Beres, a professor of Political Science at Purdue University, chaired Project Daniel, a group advising Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, argues in that paper and elsewhere that the effective deterrence of the Samson Option would be increased by ending nuclear ambiguity.[15] In a 2004 article he recommends Israel use the Samson Option threat to â€śsupport conventional preemptionsâ€ť against enemy nuclear and non-nuclear assets because â€świthout such weapons, Israel, having to rely entirely upon nonnuclear forces, might not be able to deter enemy retaliations for the Israeli preemptive strike.â€ť[16]

"Should war break out in the Middle East again and should the Syrians and the Egyptians break through again as they did in 1973 [Yom Kippur War], or should any Arab nation fire missiles again at Israel, as Iraq did [in the 1991 Gulf War], a nuclear escalation, once unthinkable except as a last resort, would now be a strong possibility."

Pulitzer Prize-winning author ("My Lai 4") Seymour M. Hersh made this hypothesis in his 1991 best seller "The Samson Option."

Captured and cruelly maimed, the bookâ€™s biblical namesake uttered the ultimate fighting words, "Let my soul die with the Philistines."

That said, the divinely empowered Samson pushed apart the temple pillars - collapsing the roof and killing himself as well as his enemies.

In his exposĂ© of Israelâ€™s clandestine nuclear arsenal, Hersh suggested that in the early days (late 1960s) of crude big-flash-and-bang nukes, one defensive option to counter an attack on Israel with weapons of mass destruction was for the beleaguered nation to mimic Samson and grimly trade holocaust for holocaust.

Hersh's 1991 prognostication of a "strong possibility" of the use by Israel of nuclear weapons rested on his knowledge that by the mid-1980s, Israeli technicians at the super-secret Dimona nuclear plant had produced hundreds of low-yield neutron warheads capable of destroying large numbers of enemy troops with minimal property damage.

Israel's ability to use nukes tactically and surgically, however, has evolved a great deal since the Samson option was still realistically an option.

Yes. The Gazans will no longer accept a naval blockade,violation of their airspace,daily tank invasions to destroy crops and almost daily cold-blooded execution-style slayings of their children and elderly. They are tired of being attacked with gunship helicopters using Hellfire missiles to kill dozens of people at once. Hopefully when the IDF enters on the ground en mass it will be like the last stand of Gen. Custer. I hope they get wiped out.
Perhaps then Gaza can reclaim it's lost city al-Majd. Now known as "Ashkelon" - a name plucked out of the christian OT to convince Americans this vile terrorist state is the reincarnation of Old King's Dave's short-lived (and probably mythological) kingdom

This is not suicide. They have attacked Gaza before. Hundreds have been killed; even the US acknowledges that much. Israel can do whatever it wants; no one will stop them, they will just justify.
