Is Israel the promised land? Was it promised to the Jews?

If so is God an estate agent?

Israel is only promised by Balfour!

When God makes a promise, his promise must come true. Otherwise the promise is not made by God but by men...
The Biblical "Promise", which "God had granted to Abraham's descendants", covered the areas between the Nile River in Egypt and the Euphrates River in Iraq, and Israelis never got it. NEVER!

Reading the old testament will make you see how "antisemitic" it is. You can see my answer on this one here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjJYktJvHwSEGN4_RdNh7pfty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081017032950AAWRfNt&show=7#profile-info-3V5YeR2qaa

I also made a video on youtube :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP628qzqclo

isn't it odd that it is not the religious Jews who claim to be "God's Chosen People." It is the atheistic non-believing Jews who claim that honor. And they are today about 80% in Israeli society.

Initially adopted in 1950, the Law of Return gave every Jew the right to immigrate to Israel. An amendment in 1970 extended that right to non-Jews who had a Jewish parent or grandparent, their spouses and the spouses of Jews.

If the Israeli Right of Return law apply to the atheist Jews who inherited Judaism from their mothers? Then why the Right of Return law does not apply to Jews who converted to other religions? Does their conversion to Islam or Christianity forfeit the fact that they are descendents from Abraham?
( It should be noted that many famous Jewish tribes in Arabia, Yemen, Palestine, and Iraq had converted to Christianity and Islam).
In fact the majority of the Semitic Jews had converted, over time, to other religions, such as Christianity and Islam.

If a billion people convert to Judaism, does the Right of Return law (the Israeli law that automatically grants Israeli citizenship solely based on someone's faith) apply to these new converts? lol

This article is published by the Jewish Agency:

http://www.jewishagency.org/JewishAgency/English/Home/About/Press+Room/Jewish+Agency+In+The+News/2002/jtasep10.htm+19.htm

In order for Israel to survive, it has to continuously redefine its definition of "who is a Jew." Its current definition of "who is a Jew" is fluid-since it has been written to suite its domestic political agenda.
This racist and crippled "Jewish Democracy" won't last.
Any civilization that bases itself on exclusion, rather than inclusion, sooner or later will self-destruct.

Lady Lulu
Lets just say for arguments sake that it is. That isn't a claim that Israel can make, as they are secular. So either they are religious or they are not. You can't have it both ways, so if it was as some here assert, promised to the Jews, that is a non starter
If you want to go down the route of the purely religious argument, then no, it isn't promised to them anymore. They gave up that right by being disobedient to God, and were left to 'wander' in the wilderness. So that 'promise' was rescinded. The Christians believe that the News Testament fulfils the old, and that basically means all bets are off.
So, to give you the short answer, Israel can not claim a biblical promise, as they are not a religious country, they are secular.

Cavalier Crusaider
No, it isn't.

Nateface, are you being obtuse, or just ignorant? How can the Arabs do anything with Palestine, when the settlers come and burn down their crops, and the IDF come with their bulldozers, and the Israeli government won't give them building permission, and blockade them so they don't even have food, water and electricity?? The settlers have all the water they want on their illegal settlements to fill their pools and water their grass, but the Palestinians don't even have enough to drink. Please get a brain, or maybe some compassion. And by the way, the Israeli's couldn't even hope to match Dubai. See what the Arabs do when they are given freedom to do it?

Not according to the Judaism law.
stealing Palestine was only about money, power and having control of the whole area.

After the second world war, considerable care was taken to prevent establishment
of Arab Federation, which would threaten Western oil interests in the
region. It seems that the very creation of the State of Israel was approved
by the Western diplomats to create a wedge in the Arab world. In the
other words, Jews were given a state that was pre-destined to be
engulfed in a constant struggle.

Orthodox Jews say:

ACCORDING TO THE JEWISH FAITH AND TORAH LAW THE JEWISH PEOPLE ARE FORBIDDEN TO HAVE THEIR OWN STATE WHILE AWAITING THE MESSIANIC ERA!

The Creator gave us the Holy Land thousands of years ago. Yet, when we sinned, He took it away and sent us into exile. Since that time our task is to wait for Him to send the Messiah. At that time, the Creator alone, without any human being lifting a hand or saying a word, will bring us together and take us out of exile. He will likewise establish universal peace among all mankind and all will serve Him in good will.

Some religious Jews, confused by Zionist propaganda quote Biblical verses that state that G-d gave the children of Israel the Holy Land. They overlook, unfortunately, those verses which say that He took it away due to our sins. They further ignore those prophecies which explicitly describe the last exile's conclusion as a Divine, not a human process.

The Creator has commanded every Jew to follow the ways of peace and to be loyal to the country where he lives.

Torah true Jewry waits patiently for the Messianic redemption. They have nothing to do with any kind of pseudo "Jewish State" and its aggressions against other peoples. They have a deep sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians who have suffered the most from Zionism's false teachings and barbaric actions. The Zionist state is not a Jewish state. The Zionists alone are the only ones responsible for their actions. Authentic Jewry has and will continue to oppose the very existence of this blasphemous state.

Much more relevant is that Jews are a minority in the Middle East & deserve self-rule, same as Kurds, Coptics, & Christians (Masoraites) & everyone else.

Also, that the land in Israel was purchased with money for deeds. Also, that the Arabs have 80% of the land in question including Jordan. It's 20% that's now getting split. It has zero percent of the oil.

Jews aren't claiming it on biblical grounds. It was largely unsettled & barren as anything & they got in line with everyone else owned by the British & asked for a plot of land too. Then they did everything needed to purchase & make it a real possiblity like set up government structures & make the land green & useful. They offered in every way possible to live peacefully with their neighbors & to help their economics.

It's not Jews who go around talking about how it's promised to Jews. It's Jews who went in for the hard work. So was it promised & is he a real estate agent? I don't know, but hopefully he'll tell us when he finally sends the messiah -- because it's a curious good question.

Pretty (smart) lady
The Land of Israel is the region which, according to the Old Testament, was promised by God to the descendants of Abraham through his son Isaac and to the Israelites, descendants of Jacob, Abraham's grandson. It constitutes the Promised Land and forms part of the Abrahamic, Jacob and Israel covenants. The promise applIes to all Jews, including descendants of converts.

The State of Israel, is a smaller modern political state within the region.

Israel, Gaza, the Golan Heights and the southern part of Lebanon are I believed defined in the book of Ezekiel as the promised land.

If you believe in God, then yes God is an estate agent since he claims the earth and the right to do with it as he pleases.

If you believe in Jesus, he will fully restore the Jews' rule Act 1:6-7.

"Now those who had gathered together began to ask Jesus, "Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?" He answered them, "It is not for you to know what times or periods the Father has fixed by his own authority.""

yes, Israel is the promised land to the jews.
The Jewish people base their claim to the Land of Israel on at least four premises: 1) the Jewish people settled and developed the land; 2) the international community granted political sovereignty in Palestine to the Jewish people; 3) the territory was captured in defensive wars and 4) God promised the land to the patriarch Abraham.
Israel's international "birth certificate" was validated by the promise of the Bible; uninterrupted Jewish settlement from the time of Joshua onward; the Balfour Declaration of 1917; the League of Nations Mandate, which incorporated the Balfour Declaration; the United Nations partition resolution of 1947; Israel's admission to the UN in 1949; the recognition of Israel by most other states; and, most of all, the society created by Israel's people in decades of thriving, dynamic national existence.
you can read more about it here

If G-d were a real estate agent, HE would have provided each nation with its own country.
Rather, He promised Israel to the Jewish people, as it says in the Jewish Bible:
G-d said to Abram: "Go from your land ... to the land that I will show you." (Genesis 12:1)
On that day, G-d made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river the Euphrates. The land of the Kenites, Kenizites, Kadmonites; the Chitties, Perizites, Refaim; the Emorites, Canaanites, Gigashites and Yevusites." (Genesis 15:18-21)
"And I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your temporary residence, all the land of Canaan as an eternal possession and I will be a G-d to them." (Genesis 17:8)
The Land of Israel is not a pay off. God did not say to Abraham: Support me and if monotheism spreads throughout the world, I will give you a good piece of real estate for your own. G-d gave Abraham and his family the Land of Israel as a unique homeland where his descendants are supposed to carry on the mission of Abraham.

Yes it is.
No it was promised to the Hebrew. there weren't any Jews yet.
God is the ultimate landlord.
Ye are but tenants on the land.

You know Cher makes a good point. The only ones you hear say promised land are envious Christians and Muslims.
The Jews call it home.

Kevin S
who cares about that notion, because based on that notion he promised, syria lebanon, egypt and iraq and jordan.
