a beautiful place, with soooooooooooooo Much crime.Go to Benidorm instead.

Yollie
Don't listen to Alf whatever is name is! Johannesburg has the highest crime you **** nut! You won't be sorry if you go to south Africa. Go to Cape Town with it's beautiful beaches and go to some National Park where you can see the wild animals and stay in this cool huts, also do a tour along Garden Route and go for a few wine tastings in Stellenbosch(best place in the world). I would say south Africa has loads of opportunities and beautiful places to go to, but if you are thinking about settling down there and to GET A JOB- then you are screwed. Job opportunities for white people in that country is very rare, unless you know someone that works there. They would much rather employ a black uneducated person than a white well educated one. That's just the way it is now!!Sad but true...why do you think that so many young south Africans come to England, like myself...

Anyway, go there, see for yourself and make your own decision!!

Absolutely mind boggling.

Just be careful....
what car you rent and drive, don´t rent anything too flashy,

just be careful... where you drive, don´t drive in unsafe areas or down unsafe roads.

just be careful where you go because of the high incidents of highjackings, muggings, rapes etc. and be even more careful of where you go at night.

just be careful who you talk to and who you go out with

just be careful when you are out hiking and in areas where there aren´t that many people around,

just be careful what you wear, don´t wear jewellery or carry cameras or other valuables,

always be cautious/on the look out for people following you, especially at night and in areas where there are few people,

be careful not to do anything stupid to attract crime,

so keeping all these things in mind you should have a great time

however if you are thinking to yourself, maybe I should go somewhere with a safer, healthier social climate

EXACTLY

these are the facts
people who don´t mention these facts in their postings to potential visitors are irresponsible,

People are very negative on this about SA - I am a South African and I love it here! The country is beautiful - there is so many different landscapes etc to see. We have beautiful weather, there is so much to do and see here, the people are friendly, the rand/dollar and rand/pound suits British and Americans so it is dirt cheep, we have wild animals in game reserves, wine routes, beautiful beaches, mountains, deserts, adventure packed activities, great shops, musems, and lots lots more - believe me you will miss alot if you never come here!

theres a tuberculosis epidemic there right now, so....watch out

i think it's the most amazing place in the world!
i spent my gap year there (last year) and loved every second of it - can't wait to go back there!!
I saw no crime, so don't let the other posts scare you. i'm not saying there's no crime, but there will be just as much in your local town.
make sure you visit cape town and the garden route/sunshine coast.
honestly - you'll not want to go home again!!
(oh, and I personally don't see how people can only spend a week or so there - far too much to see/do!)

Yes, go to Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Limpompo.
Do so now before winter gets in. Though it really doesn't get that cold.

Enjoy SA!

I'm going there soon for a month.

Been given loads of advice & basically I've been told if you have common sense, i.e stick in groups and don't go down back streets then you will be fine.

byderule
i hope so .
planning to go there in about 6 months
have lived there before ,for 23 years
Cape town is classy and beautfull and laid back
Durban is hot and touristy
Jo burg is dangerous in the centre, but elegant and witha high standerd of living on the edges
the freestate is big and beautifull especially around the lesotho or drakensberg mountains,

lots of game parks ,.desserts ,the forrests of Knysna ,
lots of ranches and farms and a very rich and sophisticated very large wine country in the cape provence ,a must for a tour of the wine farms, if one likes wine
Hundreds of exotic tropical beaches in Batal which has 75 % of the species of the flora in the world

it is not too expensive a country, the people are unhurried and laid back ,and the quality of life is high.
Labour is cheap and a guy can do great things with some help,

It is absolutely stunning, wont regret it.You need to get a tourist guide or some one that knows the areas very well.
All of the countries have its negatives and positives, our negatives usually more openly broadcast!
If u looking for stunning nature, Cape Town area is the place to go,luking for huz and buzz, jo burg is the area to go, Durban is more relaxed. weather absolutely stunning
We have of everything!!

Yes, it's a great destination.

Does it have crime issues - yes.

But the crime stats are skewed as I've said elsewhere in Answers. Few tourists are going to be wandering unaccompanied around crime hotspots in the townships, so the sort of crime they need to be aware of is that of any large city worldwide.

Be sensible, don't load yourself with cameras and jewels, don't wander alone in isolated areas after dark.

Alf and many others here are determined to paint SA in an appalling light. Look at their track record on Answers - they never give anything but an unbalanced, viciously negative view.

Enjoy your visit here. Take the word of those of us still resident in SA, not the disgruntled ones who've left for 'greener' pastires.

It's a great destination for a holiday and is truly a world in one country, as the advertising suggests.

It's brilliant! Have just returned from a completely trouble free, 3 week, 2,500 kms holiday.
Good food, good wine, good accommodation, good roads, good hire cars, good beaches, good fishing, wonderful wildlife, bird life, flowers, etc etc and lovely people - what more could you want?

Good - yes Safe - no. Some of the posts you read on South Africa are completely not factual. Cape Town for instance has the highest rate of violent crime per capita in South Africa making it the most dangerous City to visit. Beautiful it may be but there are frequent attacks on Tourists on Table Mountain, Beaches,Restaurants,Hotels and Roads. The "crime is everywhere" from the denialist South Africans just doesn't wash anymore as it vies with Colombia and Iraq for 1st place as the most violent Country on the Planet, war zones included. The inner Cities are in decay and squatter camps abound on the outskirts. Crime, disease (HIV/AIDS & XDR TB),Poverty and a crumbling infrastructure are the prominent features of South Africa. Very sad but a once vibrant and viable Country is sliding into the dust under Communist rule.

I see I got in before the denialists below me including Carl sorry Malan and Homeincape the representatives of the Tourist Industry. The propaganda these people post would make Goebbels and Chemical Ali blush. Very simple way to check crime in South Africa. Google "crime south africa" or visit one of the many numerous crime sites that have sprung up since control of the Media was taken over by the ANC. Try www.crimexposouthafrica.net or www.southafricasucks.blogspot.com or www.southafricathetruth.net and you can pick up links to the many many more. Understand the Tourist Industry have just had a disasterous season with reduced numbers of overseas visitors and in addition there have been numerous violent attacks on Foreign tourists on Table Mountain etc so they are desperate to make up lost profit. They have no morality and will tell you anything you want to hear just to get your currency. Try homeincape's site. You will see there is no mention of crime whatsoever and he does not give out contact details other than a personal one on one. This is so you can get the usual "I have lived here for X years and never been the victim of crime" crap.

Marrs Attack - Let me remind you of ANC /Communist strategy. When you cannot answer the question/allegation attack and discredit the person. If you need any help with your facts about me ask me by e-mail. I have nothing to hide and your obfuscation serves only to highlight the type of degenerate you are.

Depends what you want. In my view - it's a great place to spend time. Wonderful people, good beaches (warm water on some sides of the country), wine valleys, good clubs, great safaris, great places to stay, easy travel etc. Over the years, I've enjoyed the buzz of Jo'burg, the chill of parts of CT and the beauty of many of the bits between the cities.

the best in the world.you´ll love every minute of it.be sure to check out cape town, its the most beautiful city on earth.

enjoy.

dont take notice of a certain Alf Garnett who answered your question.if you go into all the rest of his answers and questions, you will see that he repeats himself over and over again......like a stuck record and i take you a bet that he is going to repeat himself.......again and again.

we starting to gather some pretty interesting facts about this sad mr alf garnett.

It's absolutely beautiful, and it's not dangerous everywhere! Capetown is fabulous, I would recommend it to anyone.

The Dude
It would be very naive of me to say that we don't have any problems, because we do. The only difference is that we are open about our problems and don't try to hide them.

South Africa is an awesome place to live in and to visit. I, as a South African, never knew that we had such a beautiful country. The best places to visit are The Kruger National Park, The Garden Route, St Lucia Wetlands, etc. It would be a shame not to visit any of these places while in South Africa. Places like Soweto are great if you would like to know more about the history of South Africa. If you want more info just send me an e-mail on dodger101@gmail.com.

The best travel destination in the world according to me and many other people. The following is the goodbye message of a German exchange student who visited SA for 4 months. She visited Durban, Johannesburg, PE, Mpumalanga, George and Cape Town:

"I am ready for Germany, but I'm gonna miss South Africa. I never felt what I felt here in my life before. I'm not talking about love, cause I still haven't really felt that, but that feeling that everything, every day just feels so brilliant. I wake up in the morning and I love what I am doing, where I am, who I am. I am happy because I am in love. I am in love, crushed into something where I nearly can't describe what it is. It's not a person, I am in love with a country. A whole country made me fall in love with itself. Unbelievable? It is for me. I was crazy about South Africa when I came, but now? I'm not only crazy about it, I love it! My blood is German... my heart? Easy. Proudly South African!"

So yes, SA is a good destination. Just take reasonable precautions and it's highly unlikely that you'll experience any problems.

Beautiful if you want a spat of aids and/or a bullet lodged into your neck!! FIFA made a terrible mistake to award World Cup to South Africa.

In next 15 years time, South Africa will be in the same league as Zimbabwe and they will start begging to the west for food and clothing!!

Hope this helps.

Of all the responses, the one you should not even comprehend is that of Alf. Apparently he lost a government tender and decided that overeating he would do would be to destroy the country. He said in this forum that his intention to create havoc and nothing else. So, all his postings are intended to achieve his goal.

Some people said negative about the country. While some of their responses might be how they genuinely fee - and they are entitled to that - some are just rubble rousers. South Africa is a good destination. But like every other place you intend going to, just make proper arrangements lest you find yourself stranded.

It is gorgeous from what I hear. I would love to go there. Cape Town especially is supposed to be gorgeous. And it sounds like they are continuing to improve their unfortunate high crime situation.

The best destination.

You will never regret a holiday here in South Africa. It is a fantastic country that can make all your dreams come true.

It is the whole world in one country: the most beautiful beaches, wonderful mountains, arid desserts, wild animals, the bush, great food & wine, best stars, hidden getaways, large resorts, people of all cultures, architechture, shopping malls, markets, lakes..... What ever you can think of, South Africa has it.

You will have the most amazing holiday in South Africa - rent a car with your significant other or a friend, start reading about South Africa and think about what you enjoy doing. Plan a three week trip around the country and book your own accomodation online.
