No. They arent African and never will be. They might be born in Africa, but that doesnt make them African. Blood runs deeper than borders.........Remember that!.

They can have African citizenship but that doesnt make them African, it just makes them a citizen of that country. African, means indigenous African

That means no people of european, asian or non- indigenous descent can be African. I'm Haitian and i was born in the US, that doesnt make me an American, it makes me a citizen. I'm Haitian(yes its an ethnic group because you cant trace which tribe you come from in Haiti) and always will be. Nothing can change that except god.

Guess you have to specify: nationality and orgin.

First of all: you can not compare animals with humans.

A white person can be a African National like a black person also can be english.

You are getting mixed up with citizenship/passport and orgin.

You can be a white African citizen of European origin or a black European with African origin.

The present passport you are carring does not saying anything about the ethinic group you belong to.

Take care!

I am white and i was born in South Africa. So was my mother and her mother and her mother and her mother. I have never been out of this country. So therefore i am a white South African. Like a black person born in South Africa he is a black South African, a person cannot argue that only blacks are African as then what would one do with North Africa? The last time i looked they were Arabic.

airbob61@verizon.net
No, that person would be a South African.

you have the right to claim any country you attain citizenship from as your country but ethnicity never change.
if you're born black you never go back.Whites will forever be called white and blacks will forever be called blacks (African descent)

It“s about people“s perception of the word "African" and how it“s been "marketed" around the world to signify "black".

However, some of the Africans living in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya etc. are very light skinned and have been so before the world decided to market the word "African" as black.

So why when we think of Australia do we think "white", when the original natives were "black" aborigines? And the same for New Zealand when instead the Maoris are the discoverers?

It“s all about marketing and how easily some of us fall prey to (and accept) existing ideas instead of challenging them.

Of course - ANYONE born in South Africa is South African and therefore African.

A white born in South Africa is a South African and should be proud of it

Are Bill Cosby, Michael Jordan and Jesse Jackson Americans?
If you are a citizen of SA are you not a citizen of Africa?
I am an Afrikaner and proud to be African. If you question this, then tell me which European country has Afrikaans as national language.
In the modern and globalising world community that is a very archaic and narrow minded way of thinking.
Ag, why am I even wasting my time on this?

There are no white people nor black people. I'm African and brown skinned. Black is like the colour of my car tyres. The last time I checked, white was the colour of clouds or paper. I would also like to point out that Africa is divided into races and ethnic groups, just like Asia, Americas, Europe and Australia. Being African or European just means ur either born there or your people have lived there for generations. For example, you have an Arab Egyptian, a somali, a swahili, and a zulu. An Arab Egyptian is considere caucasian in general classification, A Somali is cushitic (close relatives of semites, i.e Arabs and Israelis), A swahili is a mix of Arabs and bantu, and a zulu is bantu(classified as *******).
So are you going to consider the rest non-Africans and only the zulu, or your going to consideer everyone African?
Infact Africa was named after a famous Roman general, Afrikanus (atleast they say). Continents are just a collection of different people who have lived together in isolation for so long but with recent times (like 200-500yrs) have learned to leave together.

So, what you're saying is that I and my progeny will always be French, regardless of the fact that my ancestors have been here in (what is now) the U.S. for over 400 years?

Obviously, we cannot change our genetic make-up.

We are only what we call ourselves...If a white man is born in Africa, after ten generations of his white family being born there, he will consider himself African. Hopefully, if a black man is born here in the U.S., after ten generations of his black family being born here, he would consider himself an American.

The answer lies in the definiton of the word " African." Does it mean a person from that Continent or does it refer to ethnic origin? In the ANC South Africa a White person would never be regarded as an African as by all their actions and words the ANC is forcing them out of the Country. On the other hand those Whites who are subjected to the ANC racism are using precisely your argument to state that they are Africans but they will not be accepted as such for purely political and race reasons.

His/Her ethnicity is still white/Caucasian, but his/her nationality is South African, so s/he can say that they are African (as in from Africa), but not ethnically African.

African does not only decsribe ethnic group.y Ethnic group is WHITE, my identity and I am AFRICAN. My family has been here for 400 years. What do you think I am, Belgian?

yes, I have the birth certficate, passport, accent, pay the taxes, live the life ... Im a white african. Deal with it.

mr.mars-"H"-mallow
I agree with some of the blokes here. I am born in South Africa prefer to be called a South African and proud of it. Some people here in the States like to refer to me as the African but then I get associated with the black folk as they are accustomed to the African American thing. I have even encountered some people that are surprised by the fact that there are still white people in South Africa but I guess it is due to ignorance outside their country, that's all. South African and proud of it!

Citizenship of whichever country is not about the color of your skin its about who you are.

Its about where you are born. A person being born in any country on the continent of Africa is an African just like every other person being born on the Continent of Africa.

If they choose to identify with the continent they are born on then that is what they are.

Then they identify with the country they are citizens of - and become an African from a country in Africa and then they are from the city they live in and then maybe we consider the color somewhere at the end of the equation.

Who cares what color you are anyway? You are a person - born and living and identifying with such a place and then your skin has a pigment - Or am I wrong?

In africa we dont have that kind of complexity about race and place...
Its simple, you're born here...on this soil, you are African no matter what complexion you are...
I've noticed a lot of talk about titles that just aren't necessary overseas... black american, afro american, african american, white african american etc... Gee!
That is such a head ache!! What people overseas whant to call themselves is their issue, we call a spade a spade...

Well if you believe in Human evolution then theoretically every human being comes from Africa, specifically South Africa. So if you base it on origins of your ancestors then every person in the world is South African.
I personally believe its the country or region you identify with that makes that person. I identify my self with South Africa therefore I am South African and it won't matter where I live, but if I have a family in another country my children may identify with the country they live in.
I think African-Americans are trying to identify them self's both with Africa and America

yes they are Africans, there are those of English descent and those of Dutch descent (called Affrikaners) in South Africa. I know some white South Africans who refer to themselves as Africans. it has nothing to do with race. Also, it is incorrect to state that a black person born in the UK is not English. Of course they are. race and nationality are completely separate from each other.

Ayiza
No ways
You can't tell me a black person born in china is Chinese or Asian.
That is why you have African-Frenchmen, African-Englishmen, African-Americans, Irish-Americans,Latin-American, Asian-Americans.

You see the problem is that white South Africans are selfish they took our land destroyed our religions and customs but nooo! that's not enough now they want to take our identity as well.

They could be dutch, English, french, German Africans.

Give us a break people our identity is the only thing left.
