Humor is relative. All the funniest humor comes from something painful.

That does not meant that it is in "good taste" however.

BTW, there have been many, many holocausts and tragedies perpetrated by humans.

Edit: I also think it is funny that some many of the people who responded about the video apparently did not watch the part where they discussed whether the you can make jokes about the holocaust. They were too busy being indignant to actually pay attention.

How can anyone sane person mock or make fun of the death of millions of Jews,Poles, Russians, Homosexuals,Gypsies and mentally handicapped people. One as to be really sick if they think this is "funny"

Zeno
No. I'm a human-rights activist and although I deplore the way other genocides have been ignored for decades because of all the hype this one gets,I still don't consider genocide a fit subject for humor and I never will.

It is not right to make jokes about the Holocaust for any reason....ever!
If one of your relatives had died during the Holocaust would you still think it is right to make jokes? It is pure disrespect to those who died, and the survivors and relatives of those who have lost loved ones! It makes me furious to think anyone would even dare to make jokes about this! This is not a subject that one should joke about!

I refuse to watch your YouTube video clip if it has anything to do with making jokes about the Holocaust!

My parents were both Holocaust survivors, so no, I don't think it is appropriate to make fun of the Holocaust. All these years later it still effects our lives. The walls of my father's home is still decorated with family photos of his parents and siblings, aunts and uncles he lost when he was young. I never got to meet one single relative from my mother's family. So now when the doctor asks if a certain ailment runs in the family I just have to tell them "I don't know" because I don't. It may have been many years ago but that's like saying it's funny to make fun of slavery in 'America or Japanese internment camps. Why would anyone want to joke about something like that?

Even though, this is the case, jokes about the time period can be made or It might be fun making fun of the Nazis (remember Hogan's Heroes?)

I think not..............pain and loss of life is simply not funny.

Justtrut...: The movie was called "The Producers" and the musical was called "Springtime for Hitler" a failed play that didn't. Mel Brooks went to Lincoln High in Brooklyn like me.

Jokes regarding the Holocaust are for the "young and dumb" not for anyone who has any education of it or has experienced anti-semitism first hand like I have.

After flight school in the U.S. Navy I ended up in a squadron based in Hawaii. One of my flight crew told me a joke: "What's the difference between a Jew and a pizza?" What? "Pizza don't scream when you put them in the oven". Being from Brooklyn, we settle our differences with our fists.

By the way, I don't see the humor in the video at all.

No. No human disaster is funny. Talk to my grandparents and you will never make jokes about Jews again, I promise you. If you still do, then you are just crazy.

I've talked to Palestinian Arabs and it's not at all comfortable. Hearing that the IDF kidnapped his father for 3 days to interrogate him and brought him back by taxi really made me think about the israeli-palestinian conflict for the second time. What his father did I don't know, his son didn't know either.

Therefore, no jokes should be made, where people are actually dying and living uncomfortable lives.

Unless you think it's funny to make jokes about the killing, raping and pillaging of your grandparents, then yeah, it's a real blast.

Stupid question, inconsiderate at best.

Here's a popular one from the DP camps afterward:

Why did Hitler kill himself?

He got the gas bill.

The jokes are only funny when they reflect compassion & consideration for the horrors suffered. DP camp (displaced person's) people had a right to humor. Think of it this way, if it was your family's rape & murder, would it be a funny joke? Then you'll know if it's okay humor for the Holocaust. Sometimes it is, but often it's not.

What's really sick is the anti-semtiic bigots who answer here that making humor of the holocaust is wrong. Yet they make lies & hate at Jews every day in Yahoo answers. Not just political opinon, but virulent anti-semitism, they mask by calling it "politics". Sometimes people poke fun at them - -and that is funny.

Kevin
Don't you think there was likely a good reason? When I've gotten down & dirty & investigated individual situations, there was always a good reason & then some....even if the son isn't aware (or in some instances, chooses to think some stuff doesn't matter that does).

Daune - get a clue. The harm to Palestinians CIVILIANS is LOW for war, which they declared. Count the Israeli victims in 2000-2008 war at Israel (expressly clamied by Hamas as genocidial.) Israel would have to be might incompetent to let PA Arabs grow at one of the fastest rates in the world
AND aid their medicine so much they're life expectency is higher than Egypt's.

=======
To the TDers - are you not getting that the joke I listed was popular among survivor's themselves? That's who I learned it from & the joke's history from - a lecture by survivors on humor in the concentration camps & afterward, as part of a conference they & we (cos's) put on together.

Or is this just the usual Israel Section TD for anything that claims Israel is a normal acceptable country?

===
===
PB - I found it funny & laughed. I also was warned going into the lectures that the jokes are harsh & gross. They are. That was reality. But it is appropriate to know about.

It took me by surprise to learn how much "life" was going on inside the camps. They studied Torah (without a text), lit Shabbat "candles", & made yiddish (so as not to be understood) jokes about their sadists. All this while being allowed less than 5 hours sleep, inadequate clothes, inhumane work, starvation, death by the second, constant humiliation.

To the asker - I didn't watch the clip. There are enough Holocaust deniers & haters of Jews on here, that I wouldn't watch something without a summary of it in the question. I won't spend my time being raped further giving satisfaction to others & it's too risky with a question like this, the way it's worded & the lack of content listed about the video. Besides - I've seen your other questions & knew better.

Well, let's see now...

If YOUR family had been tortured to death, would YOU want people to make 'jokes' about it, no matter how much time had passed?

I doubt it.

I also fail to see what could possibly be 'amusing' about the slaughter of one million CHILDREN and five million adults - all of whom were innocent.

And what about the millions of NON Jews that perished at the hands of the Nazis? Do you find their deaths amusing also?

The fact that you even HAD to ASK shows that you know it's sick to 'joke' about something as tragic and grotesque as the Holocaust.

You disgust me.

ha
i think it's okay to make fun of the nazis, but not to make fun of victims of genocide.

6 million Jews died, if you find that "funny", you need to find a doctor.

bart s
i think its okay to make fun of a dark situation, as long as you arent hurtful and racist in the joke

Depends on the context and the audience.

Jewish comedians constantly fight for the "right" to make hurtful jokes about Islam and the myth of Islamic "universal" terrorism so they shouldn't object to anyone sick enough to joke about the Holocaust.

cve5190
Despite the fact that you have a right to make jokes, know that most people will be horribly offended and may make assumptions about your moral character (i.e. "Could you be a Nazi?").

If you were to make jokes about the Holocaust, I would assume you to be incredibly insensitive, sociopathic, or even in counsel with Satan.

Just saying.

Here is a joke to tell if you're German. We have a G. friend who does this really well:

If our friend catches anyone telling Jewish jokes he says:

"hey! Stop telling jewish jokes! My grandfather died in a concentration camp!"

Pause, "but hey, you're German, " friends reply to him.

"Yes, my grandfather died falling off a watch tower!"

(he didn't really, as they've lived in Namibia long before the war, but it always surprises people)

There have always been general war jokes around, but holocaust ones are usually sensitive, unless the person telling them is jewish.

Local Machine
No Son, it is not OK.
But it is not Ok for the Jews to use false evidence and benefit from that, too.
They have done similar things to the Palestinians, remember?
This whole "holocaust propaganda" thing does not work no more.
If the same jews that had been victims turned out to be the predators is a good example for that.
The Machine

justtruthnointimidation
yes, if the jokes are funny. laughter is good. mel brooks made a movie 'hitler in springtime' (or something like that). is was a 2 hour comedy. of course mel brooks is a jew, so the jews couldnt attack him as an anti-semitic. maybe just a self loathing jew. look, if the joke is funny tell it...

OK, I see the peoples view here of war/genocide/pain/sufferring can never be funny or made fun of. its too sensitve.. but I think when enough time has passed and maybe one really thinks we are all eternal anyway is some way, all life can be laughed at the horror and the beauty. the divine comedy of humanity. I do believe humour,comedy/laughter is healthy and I also think sometimes people need to stop taking themselves so seriously. and get on with their lives.

but I never did ask Which holocaust. what about jokes about wounded knee, or the Armenians, or hiroshima.. etc.

Santiago
Of course. Look at it this way; its only for laughs and giggles, not as if you're trying to hurt someone. That incident with in the world history has long passed now, and is only looked back at to make certain that we don't encounter that same problem in the near future.

I'm taking it you're only a teenager. I myself make jokes at just about anything, but it isn't as if I mean anything by it. I could be making jokes towards those living in the Middle eastern, or towards those of African decent, but it isn't as if I'm trying to hurt them.

Just make sure you have a fair and well shown line when you tell those jokes, that way people know you're only joking.
