Is it cheating?

To have an audio book rather then a normal book.
Can they be the same experience.

No, people take in information differently using different senses, Like some people prefer to hear something and others to see it. I am a visual person, I have to see something written to really understand and remember. Hubby on the other hand like to hear it to understand and remember.

Audio is great if you have limited time to read. Just slip the CD in your car and you can "read" on your way to work while stuck in traffic.

Personally I like to read the book myself. Audio books sometimes happily skip areas they don't think important or else the guy doing the narrating can be really, really bad!
(Like guys who have to pretend to be little girls, that's just so wrong!!)

But its up to you, if you like the audio book, or heck even the movie, better then reading it, then why not do it?

i think its lekker. you can "read" while you drive...

Not cheating, especially if you can't read!

Angie
No it can't be the same experience. But it's practical for some people. In audio books your experience is affected by the reader. When you read, it's totally your own and of course, the writer.

if you have to ask - yes, just the fact that you feel it may be wrong is a sign that it is.

Reading (with your eyes) improves your spelling and vocabulary skills, listening to it takes that away.

You could listen to the story (just to get the basic structure of the story) but you arent going to do well in exams when they ask about specific parts. And you want to get good grades ... so :
DONT DO IT

Read the boook, get good grades and thank me when youre done!

(You could start now while the teachers are all striking!)

Bonny
No it's not cheating.

Lots of illiterate people think so.

I prefer a normal book - it leaves all the characters to my imagination.

Audio books are great for long car journeys though!

its just a diferent experience... enjoy!

Lady G
To me it's really not the same experience. My fiancé had pshychology for a year at uni and he says I have something that makes me forget things I've heard but remember things I've seen. Let's call it being a visual person?
I'm a self-confessed bookworm and couldn't dream of rather listening to a book than reading it - my mind keeps drifting away. I used to have the Lovebird series that gave you a book of the fairy tale and also a tape that you could listen. I used to ignore the tape completely and just read on my own, lol.
Depends on your personality though, people are different and that's what makes us interesting...

No, it's not cheating. Blind students use audio books all the time with the blessings of their teachers.

xxblondebabixx=]]
I don't think it is cheating because I do it. It basically is the same experience, in my opinion I think it is better.

elijahjaye
No, its not cheating......its just easier.

SaRawr
it isnt cheating
but you cant get the same experience
sure both ways you get the story
but in audio all you're doing is listening to it
whereas when you're reading you are into it and improving your reading skills
unless you cannot read than reading the book is the best option
it is not cheating if you want to have the book read tto you because you cannot read, thats the best thing anyone can have

d_lu_22
I don't think it's cheating. It has a different effect though. You don't really experience the book like you would when reading it yourself, but if you are trying to get the story in the book, the audio book is just fine.

zach s
no its not but it could be different from the real book
