I am an American living here 11 years, I wear jeans and t-shirts and don't get bothered but only by the stare factor and that's when I am around more traditional towns, it's very safe here.
Even Egyptians get haggled about the prices that is how many open places are, you just have to bargain, unless there is a price tag on it, have fun and do not worry.
There is alot to see and do, enjoy the monuments and coastal waters, many foreigners keep coming back because they love Egypt. |

If you do a throrough check you may find a travel group that is fit for americans. But always be careful when traveling there. keep your wallet close, not in your pockets and not in a waist pouch. the thieves will spot you quick and can easily take it.
Wouldnt' recommend going off on your own trip, too risky. |

Egypt is generally a safe and friendly country to travel. Egyptians on the whole are very friendly - if you are in need of assistance they will generally try to help you as much as they are able.
As in most Middle Eastern countries associated with large numbers of overseas travellers, recently there have been security concerns for Western travellers. Tourists from these areas have been targeted sporadically by militant groups, sometimes with tragic results.
The usual warnings for prudent behaviour apply, but are not the same as in New York or London. In the latter, the anxiety is highest with respect to bombs. In Egypt, the bloodiest terrorist attacks have involved groups shooting on tourists. As for casual crime (muggings and robberies), Egypt is quite safe. As for pickpocketing, the problem is probably greater than it is in most Western cities. The danger in Egypt is much less violent attack than the less dangerous problem of cheating and scams.
The security situation in Egypt (as in many Middle Eastern countries) is frequently exaggerated by Western media outlets, creating a negative impression that is somewhat amplified by the heavy-handed policies of Egyptian authorities in keeping tourists safe. The reality is that travelling in Egypt is probably no more hazardous, with regard to terrorism, than visiting most Western capitals (and probably a lot safer!) Egypt relies heavily on foreign tourism for its national income and both Egyptians and their government are extremely keen to prevent any occurrence that might create a bad impression and keep tourists away. For example, if you take a taxi from Cairo to Alexandria, you will be stopped at a checkpoint before leaving Cairo. They will ask where you are going, and communicate with the checkpoint at Alexandria to make sure you reach your destination within a certain time period. The same goes for most trips into the desert. During different branches of your drive, you may be escorted by local police. They will travel to your destination with you, wait around until you are finished, and usually stay behind at one of the next checkpoints.

Yes, its a safe place.
Even if you're Jewish its not like you'll be wearing a name tag with it! lol
People are friendly and helpful, you can wear what you want its not like Iran but preferable not "extremely" short or revealing clothes, after all its an Islamic country.
Believe me every foreigner who came here has had the time of his life and comes back for more.
For those who comment and live in their own world, get out there and be more open minded about different people, cultures and religions. |

Please don't answer this question if you've never been to Egypt.
First of all, Israelis cross the border over to Egypt all the time, so why would anyone ask if the OP was Jewish? how ridiculous is that? grow up ppl.
Lots of Egyptian women, especially younger ones wear jeans and t-shits with no problem. The country is about 20% Christian, and Egyptian Christians definitely don't dress "islamically". And most definitely no " head dress" is needed. Egypt and Iran are two different countries ppl! |
