Is the sea in Cape Town really frozen???

I've been forwarded some photos of the sea by Cape Town frozen. I've been trying to look up something on the internet to see if this is true or not, but can't find anything. Can anyone send me any news or other links about this?

Cape Town is only about 35 degrees or so, south latitiude. It's not far enough south to freeze. An excellent website to go to to see ocean temperatures, sea states and winds is: www.oceanweather.com

Everyone says that the sea is just fine and that it didn't freeze or even get ice on it!

Though the water is certainly cold enough to!!!

Wow Nick N - nice answer - really constructive...
Did you possibly think that maybe that is why she was asking - looking for confirmation that it's not true? I didn't notice her stating anywhere in her question that it was. And by definition of the word 'gullible', that fact that she was questioning it shows that gullibility is not what she was displaying. Besides, not everyone is from Cape Town and knows the climate there. And by the way, although not in Cape Town, it is possible for the seas to freeze - that's what a vast majority of the polar ice caps are, and according to another answer posted on the website it happened at Cape Cod. So it might be an idea to think a little more before you type such kr@p! And then name calling to top it all off... you must be a real charmer of a guy... do you have a girlfriend by any chance? Well, if you do, I wonder if she knows what a 'lucky girl' she is to have a boyfriend who so easily insults other people.

Frozen Seas of Cape Cod

these were the only frozen sea pictures I could find, if the pictures you are talking about are genuine - then we will see it on TV soon enough. Otherwise I thinks its a joke.

No it isn't. Today I had to drive from one side of the Cape to the other on business. On both sides the ocean is unfrozen. The water temp along Clifton and Camps Bay does tend to be extremely cold - even in summer.

no ways...if it was, it would've been like that in say antarctica.

The sea can not freeze, there is to much salt in the water. The water is very cold but it is not frozen

I think it is impossible for the sea to freeze in Cape Town as the Indian (warm) and Atlantic (cold) oceans meet at Cape Point. So the warmer Indian ocean would prevent the oceans from freezing.

Not too sure on the scientific details, though.....

NO!

Lived in Capetown 3 years - never known it to freeze !!

Oh Puleeze!
The Indian Ocean is a tropical ocean and as such never freezes, and the Atlantic ocean is too warm where it meets the Indian to freeze. Further more, this is a sub tropical country, so the chances of the sea ever freezing are about the same as those for hell ;o)
I suggest that someone is having you on - it's amazing what you can do with photoshop.

There is no ice at any time of the year, even in Table Bay or False Bay which is where it is most likely to be solid.

It does however reach a temp well below comfortable to swim in, even in the summer, especially along the coast where the most popular beaches are, Clifton, Camps Bay icy cold but not solid.

The current along that shoreline is straight off the South Pole and so the water is very cold only a couple of degrees above 0 but never solid in my lifetime.

think about it how on earth would the sea freeze????is the sea in the north pole frozen?
