Once i was with my friends they were talking about celebrities that they like some said abo treeka and mentioned that treeka was ill and he was sad for him and that he liked him very much, so just to argue with him i said "why are you sad for him and he even don't know you and whatever happened to you he would never care for you" and at that moment i thought about it why should i love eminem or Avril lavigne while they don't and won't risk a drop of sweat for me and then i started thinking who is that person who i should love and love no one more than him because this person really cares for me even more than i do care for my self and the answer clearer than the sun in the sky,
have you found out who are these persons?

Ok, now answering your real question:
How come not a lot of people love their spouses more than themselves.
When you think of the meaning of "to love someone more than you love yourself", you'll find out that there is only one logical explanation to that:
You're willing to die in order to save the life of this person. Because this is what it means to love someone more than yourself.
Now when you think of it again, this kind of love "dying to save your beloved" is the kind of love which exists only in paternal feelings.
Every parent is willing to risk his or her life to save her kids.
Maybe they would do the same to their spouses too. But the idea doesn't really cross their mind this often.
Think of it!
Compare how many times a parent would be walking with his children and thinking " If they run to the middle of the street and a car is about to hit them, I would immediately jump and protect them with my body if I have to".
Now I am sure that they would do the same with their wives but........ the relationship between a man and a woman is one of equality and mutual dependence whereas the parent-child relationship is one of inequality and total dependence from the child on his or her parent.
