No. While the concept is very appealing to people, it is impossible. Unconditional love would require a person to feel the same love for another regardless of what they did.
Even a mother, whose only child has filled her whole life with joy, will be affected severely if her child turns out to be a cold-blooded, serial murderer or a devil-worshiper. If your child were to turn on you and hurt you intentionally, even take you captive and torture you, would you really feel the same love for them?
Evil, the devil, whatever you want to call it, is abhorrent to a loving heart, and unconditional love would have to include the love of evil. That has no sense. Love comes from the appreciation of what is good in a person or thing, even the imperfections, if that person is striving to be good or has a good heart. Love does not come from appreciation of an evil or hateful heart. |

Yes--you see it everyday, with dogs and their owners, babies and their parents, ect. Loving people unconditionally is getting rarer and rarer, though.

I don't think so. Unconditional love means that you love someone no matter what that person does or how that person behaves. While that's very idealistic, I don't think its very realistic. I know of no one who is able to do this and it would be foolish to boot. Even people who are deeply in love to start often and swear eternal love to one another often end up breaking apart. Unconditional love would also be stupid to practice because it would open a person up to all kinds of mistreatment by the object of their affection without any accountability for their actions. Even God in the Bible can't love people unconditionally, how can humans be expected to? |
