Is travel to Israel safe now for Americans? Are some areas for dangerous then others?

Show all answers

Stainless Steel
Here I am again to help out a fellow American traveller.
You are in luck because StainlessSteel, your personal guide to Israel is here to help and that's a fact!
This here is my "Ten Golden Rules in getting back home in one piece after visiting Israel"

1. Always wear a bulletproof vest, never leave home w/o it!
2. Never come in close, personal contact with Jews. (you'll see what I mean, when you get there, LOL!)
3. Avoid tourist areas, cafeterias, shopping malls, bus stops, camel stops, souvenir shops, waiting lines, banks, airports and hotel lobbies.
4. Never hire a cab unless is one of them bulletproof-shockproof steel armored types.
5. Never hire a car unless is one of them bulletproof-shockproof steel armored types.
6. Always try to look over your shoulder for any suspicious persons (pickpockets, exploding arab youngsters, bulldozer drivers etc.)
7. Always keep one ten dollar bill inside your passport. This will save a lot of your precious holiday time, believe me on that. After all you are in ...Israel, LOL!
8. Do not wear any modern clothing, revealing skin parts of your body. Jews are offended easily and you will have to pay a lot of cash if you decide to do so.
9. When and if you get back home go to your local hospital for a radiation physical. The Israelis use some very old and undocumented nuclear plants (highest cancer rate worldwide) that leak like crazy.
10. Never speak out words like: Jesus or Christ in public. You will get arrested and fined heavily.

That's it! Feel free to print this small guide and keep it always with you.

I also suggest that it is better to ignore some Israeli Yahoo! Board members saying: "There’s nothing really dangerous about Israel" or "I live here and it's beautiful".
These members are paid Israeli employees. Do not believe a word, OK?
Finally get yourself a life insurance from a non Jewish company, covering injuries and death, during your visit .
Good luck my friend and happy trails too!
Steel

Okay, a few people are not being rational in answering you because of their bias against Israel.

I am blonde haired and I have never had a problem in israel, even in Jerusalem. I even went to Geullah and didn't have a problem.

I never had a problem anywhere I went, so is Israel safe? Sure it is.

Do you want to go to Ashkelon or KIryat Arba or Hevron? Probably not unless you are with a group. But, if you stay within Tel Aviv, to Hosh Hanikra, or Kineret, or Jerusalem, or Eilat.. then you should be fine.

Yes it is safe! Are some areas more dangerous? As with anywhere in the US or the world the answer is yes.
Unless it is your plan you will be no where near these areas.

Yes, it is safe. I am not Israeli but an American who traveled to Israel.
Unless your planning to go to the Gaza strip Israel is safe and it is a trip that will change your life in the most positive way.

You will not only meet Israelis but Palestinians too. You will find all the people very nice and welcoming.
Tourism is a main economic stimulus to not only the Jews but to the Palestinians as well.

Would you walk down a street in NY city alone at night? No, But you can do so in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv.
I am not sure where this blonde thing is coming from but it has zero merit.

I went with a friend--2 females who rented a car and drove throughout Israel. Clear up to the Golan and back again.
If you would like more info complete with home video--then msg me.

"I realize now that it is no more dangerous to be here (Israel) than it is to be in New York"

- Madonna

And , the State Department's travel warning for Israel, issued in April, bluntly "warns U.S. citizens to avoid regions near the West Bank and Lebanese and Gaza borders, Just these regions no others.

So travel here is safe, as safe for you as it is safe for me and mine.

Sarah Silverchitz
Oh-oh, here is the 9-5 Israeli propaganda bunch!
At least there were a couple of guys telling the truth here.
I agree with them although I am a proud Jewish person living a VERY safe life in New Jersey.
Living in Israel is a gamble, at least that's how I see this.
It's not only the Arabs, it's the Iranians too.
Do you know that there is no way for you to get a travel life insurance when you mention Israel as your travel destination? Huh?
Or if you manage to get one it would so very expensive for you to actually sign the contract?
I can believe this, I honestly can't.
Sarah

I think there is one jew here giving multiple profile answers.
Do you notice that their "answers" get registered with a 15 minute interval?
I don't believe sheet jew here. They all lying all the time.

Personally I think I would visit Palestine if and only if the Arabs take their own land back.

Right now I just don't feel suicidal in order to pay them jews a "visit".

Go ahead girl, but you have been warned. Dontcha ever forget that.

Visitors are always amazed at how safe they feel in Israel. The crime rate is far lower than almost every other western country. Even children walk freely in the streets at all hours. When asked how secure visitors felt in Israel, the unanimous response has been as follows (and this is a direct quote from one of our groups)...

"Never for one moment did we feel that there was any danger."

The State of Israel and Keshet go to great lengths to safeguard every visitor. You will feel it from the moment that you approach your flight, and through the entire trip.

Statistically, visiting Israel is safer than almost any other place in the western world, including the USA. This fear of visiting Israel is no more rational than fear of flying: the likelihood of an airline accident is less than 1 in 2 million, while the chances of dying in a car accident, according to the US Department of Transportation, is 1 in 7700.

Measured by square feet and population, according to FBI statistics - Israel is far safer than most major North American cities!

So, the response to the question "Is Israel a safe place to visit?" is, without hesitation yes, yes, YES!

"It is ironic that in America we have deadbolts on our doors, locks on our windows, and alarms on our houses, and claim that Israel is too dangerous." M. Anstey, Washington DC

Unfortunately, though, questioning safety is very common, especially since 9/11 (which you will remember happened in the US not Israel!). Based on sensationalized media coverage, many perceive Israel as a perpetual war zone. But Israel is not in a war in the conventional sense. No missiles, or scuds, or tanks in the streets. The Palestinian's are using a psychological weapon called: "Terror Attacks" They are called that because their MAIN goal is to spread terror and fear - if we give in to it, we will be aiding and abetting it

There is a saying that you can call to the Lord anywhere, but in Israel it is a local call. HOW MUCH SAFER CAN YOU BE THAN THAT?

Hi, my friend
I am afraid I am against your decision in visiting Israel.
This country is one of the most dangerous destinations on our planet according to Forbes publications.
Peace before tourism is the number one proviso in my book at least.
Furthermore I have to admit that I love being alive.
No sane person would ever visit a country where the oppressed local minority can send a youngster or a vehicle driver against the unaware crowd, killing hundreds of innocent tourist civilians.

Also since I am a Scandinavian citizen the delay and bureaucracy at the airport that sometimes reaches 3 or 4 hours is an unwelcoming factor, to me at least.

That's strictly my personal opinion. I am not saying that you have to abide by me naturally.
Greetings

Edit:
I am not talking about traffic hazzards that can happen on any part of our world. Israel has very specific threats that can happen out of the blue and for no apparent reason at all.
Also do not forget that this is a 3rd world country you are about to visit.
Be prepared for many surprises, should you go on with your decision.

G.
No, Israel is not safe.

Well I can't speak as a tourist but I can as an Israeli.
I don't think that it's dangerous and there are lots of tourists, in the summer places like Tel-Aviv and Netania had so many Frenches in them that one of the jokes was that some of the Israelis got so sick with the French around them all the time that they went to Paris for a change. Now in Eilat they "suffer" from the "Russian Invasion", a ger men friend of the family and an AMERICAN family that visited the country for the first time just left- they are alive still, don't worry. Basically there are lots and lots of tourists here, a fair part of them are Americans. most people go to the north (Nazareth. the Golan Heights...), Netania, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Dead Sea and then Eilat. Those places are safe, as long as you stay away from West Bank, the Gaza Strip and around Ashkelon, the worst thing you will have to be careful from is the israeli driver- we are almost as bad as the Greek).
p.s
If you want to see something really funny come around our Independence day, half of the cars carry then an israeli flag and an amarican one.

Neil N
It is very safe to travel to Israel. Ignore the ignorants.

pol1992
OMG.
The blonde girl, you're really are blond, ain't you?!
The jews give blonde girls dirty look???
Are you serious???
There are thousednds of blonde jews- boys and girls - not to talk about blonde Israelis!
Thats the stupidest thing i have ever heard.

Kevin S
Traffic hazards are dangerous lol, but they are dangerous in manhattan. TO be honest Israel is much safer than you might think. Anywhere near ashkelon and sderot is more dangerous. East Jerusalem is politically dangerous. All other parts are safe as can be.

you live in a violent place like NJ (and maybe even visited NY), and you worry about Israel?

it is much safer then NY and NJ:
NY is proud of having only 73 (murders per million per year),
NJ is has only 44 (murders per million per year),
Israel has 23 (murders per million per year).

in the last 8 years, 700 Israeli civilians were killed by terror attacks. out of 7 million Israelis, this meant ~13, and in bad years, Israel was as unsafe as NJ.
now that the security wall is in place, it's lower - around 4.

this is not a recommendation to go to dangerous places in Israel.

safe places: all the places inside Israel are in full Israeli control, and considered safe (including all Arab cities inside Israel)

somewhat dangerous: settlements in west bank, Sinai ,the major Jewish and Christian religious attractions in the west bank, areas surrounding Gaza. it is considered unsafe going there, but it's still much safer then New York.

very dangerous: places outside Israeli control in the west bank and Gaza, Palestinian cities. no Israeli go to these places, and for good reason.

I think it is very-very dangerous to go to Israel.
Expect long delays at the airport too.
A friend of mine told me that if the jews see a blonde girl in the street , they give her "a dirty look".
I don't know what this is but I don't want to find out.
bye bye

jd
John, Sunset, Steel I give you guys credit for perserverense. You never fail to grap the opportunity to play the ***.
In the face of todays atrocitiy I guess we have to say any place there are Muslims there is danger. New terrorist groups pop up reguarly.
Still they aren't in israel and the streets are safe according to everybody that comes on here that has been there.
I can not for the life of me see how you obviously educated and intelligent types can stand with these barbarions.
Israel is safe girl you go soon.
