My friend:
------------- Yes, too many super-market here, and they have all kind of vegetable foods, fruits, and nuts, some is fresh, and some of frozen. But in side restaurant cooked food we can't say 100% vegetable, because they fry chicken, mutton or beef in the oil, same oil or poet they can use for vegetable food.
For 100%, pure vegetable food, should be we cook in our home.

Vegtables?....What do you think!?

--- “Hi there. There is a wide range of foods available in Saudi. Actually I think a vegetarian would be very happy here. It’s very easy to find whatever u wish here. Even "strange" products and vendors which locals are not used to can be found in Saudi Arabia. Yes there is a lot of meat, but also a large range of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. There are road side venders selling fresh vegetables etc. Otherwise shop in the large supermarkets,
Al-Tamimi markets, the local agent of Safeway, has a lot. Most of its products are European, India and some from US. Arabian Foods Markets are too... still you can find your requirements of vegetables in Carrefour, Geant... etc.
Here is15 pages of the "Saudi Arabian Vegetarian", and there are more about vegetarian food, if you are interested.â€
Enjoy. ---

yes, but there are not a lot of ready-made foods here. Also, if you eat in a restaurant, you will need to make sure there is no hidden meat, like chicken stock in rice or soup. Also, make sure your food isn't being cooked with meat. Most regular saudis don't understand the concept of vegetarianism. To them, it's not eating meat, but for a vegetarian, you don't want your food being cooked with meat or chicken stock, etc. You want your food to be free from all animal products.

tina
veggies r available at markets. u'll get gud dal makhni & paneer dishes here.but dont expect pure veg dishes in indian hotels. 'coz last time when i ordered veg biryani in a restaurant, i found chicken bones in it. so, b careful if u r pure vegitarian.

do you mean for eating out or in? Bcos of course the supermarkets are loaded with lots of fresh veg. Outside in restaurants all of them would have vegetarian options although they would be limited. I dont know if there are any actual vegetarian restaurants here... at least I havent seen one in Riyadh.

Do you mean vegetables, fruit, rice, potatoes, nuts, that sort? Why yes, as a matter of fact there is, and it's quite good and clean as well.

There's also Applebee's.

Oh and ***important***: there's water there too!

Yes, actually in many restaurant there are salad bars where vegetables of your choice is served, even in small restaurant, vegetable soups are available.

Sister Silky
yes, in fact, fruits and vegetable are a BIG part in arabic/middle eastern cuisine. There isnt one dish that isnt made without them and rice as well and almost all of the dishes can be made with the meat omitted and still keep the same great taste.

arabic food is very delicious and healthy.

a few examples are mashy (grape leaves, zucchini or cabbages stuffed with rice and spices)

loobia (a tomatoey stew made with oinons tomatoes garlic and any bean of your choice served over rice)

koshary (rice and lentil with onions, macaroni, chick peas and a garlic sauce on top)

fool madamas (a bean dish made from fava beans, garlic, lemon and cumin)

even fish is a big part.

fruit is served with tea after every meal and salads, hommous and pita bread is served with each meal, even breakfast.

i think maybe some people dont understand your question...
anyway, ive seen tofu (i think) and soy milk at tamimi, and i think boca burgers.... this is just what ive noticed by walking through the aisles. i have a friend here who is vegetarian and she seems to be doing fine. :)
