I wanted to answer yesterday, and waited till I read the different opinions, and the answer is very easy,, you are just young to remember that the elite of the Egyptians used to put some turkish words in their daily conversation then that changed to French,,, later that changed a lot to English in the last 50 years,,, Of course that is what we call the cultural occupation,, I can not blame the Arabs only for that , as the French themselves use now some English words while they Speak (like Weekend) and the Germans as well,, that what happened after the world war 2 , Of course countries like Holland Belgium..etc are worse and they are fighting that hard,, and all that is because the growing influence of USA on the world,,, people generally are very affected by who they say as (superior to them,,Once upon a time lots of European used Arabic words in their languages,, I can recall now the mord Ma'7zan in arabic (warehouse ) as it is used in the Dutch language besides lots of other words related to trade and sailing ,, all that were because the Arabs once were superior than the Dutch in those two fields,,
Let me give you an example and it may seems to be far but it is not.. The Egyptians women dressed up on revealing cloths because they were affected by the west and saw them as superior,,that started with the elite ,, then moved to the middle class,, later the uneducated mass followed the middle class.... starting from the 80's The Egyptians discovered how filthy the people they thought as a model and they started again to put veil, and that started also with some elite,, then the middle class,, and then the mass followed,, and it does not related to religious value with lots of people,,It is just as i said how much influence the people felt to the west..and how they see them (as superior or inferior than them)...We can not deny that the west lost a big part of its place for two reasons:
1) People started to see how filthy and fake the (English speaking people) are..
2) The Arabs themselves are having a better position related to the new wealth they have now
I see now lots of Egyptians who put Gulf-ian words in their daily speech,, and imitate the Gulf even in how they eat and dress up
It is matter of superiority and inferiority.. I would not doubt in the next 20 years that people will start to use some chinese word in their daily life conversation

Now to mention something funny,, In Holland as the Moroccans have big influence especially in Love and emotions (as of course the dutch are cold frigid) Most of the dutch are using the word Habibi in their daily life ,,Again it is matter of superiority in one field ,, and how we see ourselves
I had lots of fights in Egypt in some hotels when they present to me the menu in English,,and I always tell them I do not speak this language that I want to read what I want to eat...

Nowadays , a real physical occupation to a nation is proved to be very difficult, that lots of forces are trying heard the most effective alternative (the occupation by the culture of the skin which is always Languages and religions,,, so people do not just be occupied and stick to your culture of skin....

samy n
take it easy,,,we are going to loose our culture on every thing not only the words

It is always nice to know multiple languages and use them not to forget them.
Sometimes i speak at home with my husband in English just to practice.
It is never bad my dear don't take it in a negative way.
did you read Clover's answer, she thinks it is cool to speak as many languages as you can.
nowadays specially after 11-9 , most of Westerns try hard to learn Arabic and use it as well, because it became important for their jobs, military, school Research,, etc.
So it is always okay to use another word in another language within your conversation , BUT , something I agree with you about is :
When it comes to showing off in front of an elderly or a poor ignorant person , i don't agree with that ,it is so mean how you can let this person feel ignorant and assure to him- her how simple they are.
it is not nice to use that type of attitude when it comes to having a conversation with a simple person who is not that educated.
We have got to respect the differs within the living styles of others.

Thanks for the Q

I didn't meet a lot of people like that and i don't like when someone put English or French words in his words i think they try to show off or something but "ok and merci" i used to hear it a lot so, no problem.

I was at a net cafe and i saw 3 Egyptian guys talk in English and some in Arabic when they don't fined the word in English, I was about to crash the nearest monitor on their heads :p

I think it depends on the class.

hmmm .. nice question ..
some people use english or french words in a conversation, because some words in English are more specific than Arabic ... they give you the exact expression or thing you want to say (vice verse)

but i think that there is a great number out there that just try to show off by using another language.

idk thats what i think :)

Made of Honor
Its because when they mix different languages into each other it becomes clumsy. Like now some Egyptians speak bad English because they speak the French mixed into British English.

i see this every day among my friends and family .
i like it , and DO it in a natural way.
WHY ?
we know English and French .
we weave English / French words into our Arabic like kharaz or terter !
it shows how we learned we are !
dont you do it ?
i do it , and with great pleasure !
