Didn't the Arabs (as they were called before they espoused the name "Palestinians") occupy Israel before that? And didn't the Ottoman Empire occupy it too? And the Crusaders? And the Romans? The Persians? The Babylonians? The Assyrians?

What makes the land Arab and not, let's say, Assyrian?

Tough, but that's reality: empires rise and fall and lands change "owners". The Palestinians had plenty of opportunities to get more land (Peel Commission's recommendations rings about? the Partition Plan of 1947? Clinton's partition plan?) but either they refused for every treaty and chose the violent way, or they signed the treaty and breached it right away.

They were scattered throughout the world thousands of years ago. Apparently by their god who they must have pissed off royally.

So 1947-48 rolls around and all of a sudden they have a right to a homeland??? How does that work?

Can I claim a right to your house and walk in with a gun and force you out? Or do I need an old dusty set of scrolls where it is "written" that i have a right to your house.

Doesn't peace start with atonement? And in this case would that start with the Israelis? The Arabs were just hanging out riding camels before 1947 living side by side with Jews in the land now called "Israel" Then all of a sudden the Jews (with the help of the Allied powers, who were punishing the Arabs for picking the wrong side in WWII) decided they had a right to a homeland and kicked the Palestinians out of their homes and off their land.

The Israelis are in Palestine since the UN decided they should go there. Now Palestine is not even a country...The Isreaelis occupy 80% of Palestinian territory: leaving only 20% to the Palestinians, who live in camps. The Palestinians have a curfew -set by the Israelis-, they have limited amount of water and electricity -set by the Israelis-, and don't even have the right to own a handgun (If a Palestinian person is caught with a gun, he or she will be killed -by the Israelis-).
In addition, Palestine is the only country in the world that has an apartheid.....Come on people, we live in 2007....This should not be happening!

I'll answer without expressing opinion. This will be a neutral answer, and if you find yourself disagreeing then perhaps you should search your soul and see if your opinion is in any way based on fact or just blind hate (in either direction). The "Green Line" is Israel's official borders recognized internationally, so regarding the land contained within those borders, Israel is not occupying any land. This border was the one established in 1949 at the cessation of violence with between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Neither at this time, nor at any time has an independent entity called "Palestine" existed under arab rule. The area known as the West Bank was annexed by Jordan, though this was recognized only by Great Britain and Pakistan at the time. The Gaza Strip was occupied by Egypt. The Golan Heights were a part of Syria. In 1967 during the Six Day War, Israel captured all these areas, and even took the Sinai Peninsula. Jordan summarily rescinded its annexation of the West Bank and signed a peace agreement with Israel. In 1978 Egypt signed a peace agreement on condition that Israel return Sinai, which was carried out in 1982. In 1981 Israel annexed the Golan Heights, however this was rebuffed by a non-binding UN security council resolution and in general is not internationally recognized. In addition, Israel has stated that all of Jerusalem, being the recognised West Jerusalem and the East Jerusalem taken in 1967, constitutes the united city of Jerusalem and is Israel's capital, though not officially declaring annexation as the borders of Jerusalem are not delineated. Israel later withdrew all forces and population from the Gaza Strip (rather recently), leaving only the West Bank. This area, also called Judea and Samaria after the biblical names of the areas, is neither annexed by Israel or its own sovereign country so this area is uncontestedly occupied. Whether or not Israel has a rightful claim to the region is irrelevant; Israel has not formally annexed this area so it is an occupied territory. Summary up til this point: West Bank - occupied, Golan Heights - annexed disputed, Gaza Strip - not occupied though Israel reserves the right to enter for security reasons. However in case I have not made it clear, there is no Palestine- at least not yet. No nation has ever declared independence with clearly delineated borders and called itself Palestine. Palestine is a country many would like to create within the lands currently occupied by Israel (perhaps even all), however it is non-existent today.

The current "Israelis" are European exiled Jews that the British mandate threw out of Europe -to get rid off- and send them to the weakest spot of the Arabs. The land of Palestine, or whatever you want to call that land, had Muslims & Christians.

Well, whatever happens I AM SAFE, and I hope peace will come! I don't mind that Israel is taking over a city that doesn't belong to them, as long as the people are good now and they don't kill other people. I'll accept them but please let's be friends.

Yes it is ,the British and Americans will tell you that the Israelitis only took what is rightefuly theirs,that Egland gave the land she owned(which was actualy occupied just like India and many other colonies)to the Iraelitis who deserved(I dont know really how they deserve it).
Of course you can see that all this is nonsense based on power,and this power is based on the strenghth of UN and US.which is a temporary situation,but the fact that palestinians have always lived there way before those white europian men who can't prove any of the allegations they have said(like being Israelitis,or the temple of Sulliman).

FALSE! Israel is the land that belongs to the Jewish people since before 1250 B.C.E! God promised all of the land from the mediteranian sea to the current day euphraties to Avraham and his decendants. in 70 C.E the ROmans destroyed Jerusalem and it's Temple and exiled the Jews all over Europe and Africa and Aisa. The Jews then reclaimed SOME of their entitled land in 1948 from the british. However, the British screwed them over witht he partition plan and gave them crapy parts of the country-the desert and a scrap by the sea. It also got the Galiilee from Syria as a result of war. It also got the Sinai, but gave it back as a "peace agreement" with Egypt. Israel then disengaged from Gaza in the summer of 2005. Israel is still in possetion of the West Bank, however it is full of Arabs
