If you ask a historian about this, than the answer you'll get is that:
Palestine was one of the hundreds of sea-ports the Greeks had since 5000 years ago in order to do business with the Asians in the mainland.
Herodotus (Greek philosopher) specifies this in very clear writings saved until today, in his book.
The Greeks were mixed up with the local Arabian people, living simple and peaceful lives in Palestine.
Then it was the jews, the Romans, the Turks blah ...blah ...blah.
So in case you want to be fair to our planet's history all you have to do is ...be fair!
That's all.
bye bye |

Your question is like asking, America belongs to who? Red Indians or the European settlers? The fact of the matter is that Israel / Palestine is a Holy Land for the Jews, Christians and Muslims. It should not belong to any certain religious / political group and they should all be forced to get along as a democratic society. They must all respect each others rights. Other nosy governments, whose interests is not best for either side, give them an unequal balance, causing slaughtering of families, which lead to suicide bombings. The world should enforce equality because the land belongs to ALL OF US. |

Palestine has been there long before anyone even heard of the Hebrews. And they are there to stay. |

I believe it was Palestine the very first name given to the area, since the Greeks named that port (Παλαιστίνη), in English: Old-homeland.
All of this is is written inside the Greek philosopher's book Herodotus (Ηρόδοτος)and we all know that the Jews appeared at least 1000 years later.
Actually, that book still exists (in the Athens History Museum) and is considered the oldest piece of writing in the form of a regular book !!!
Amazon can supply you with translated copies if you like.
I hope I was able to answer your question my friend, since I am not an Arab/Muslim, or a Jew, just a plain old Scandinavian person.
Greetings |

The jews briefly occupied the highlands areas but never the coastline or Galilee; their fanciful rendition of an ancient jew kingdom has no historical validity, and even they concede this "kingdom" lasted less than two hundred years and this was supposedly about 2,800 years ago. Palestine is historically a province of Syria as is the Lebanon and I support the restoration of Greater Syria. |

a new old question
shadi well briefed the answer
i only add few points
5000 years ago prophet Abraham left ur escaping his people and passed by our land looking to refuge he was welcomed by king Salem who the city Jerusalem took the name after he has his cattle he grew with his wife and they lived generally in Palestine area where he has sons ands grand sons
he bought in hebron a piece of land in order to be" family grave yard" here comes the first claim of god giving you never pay for a palestinian money for what god gave you free "unless it is a joke" must realize here that Abraham is not a jew because ismael his son is the grand father of arabs isaac the other son is the father of jews and you should notice here that isaac who has yacov has other sons and they are not jews ,judism came after moses
the other thing you should notice that yacov and his family went to egypt that land of palestine was dry and they were shepherds they stayed in egypt for 2000 years continuously
the third thing you should know that moses led them back once they were not happy with egyptians crossed the sea and the river fought and killed palestinians demolished cities such as jericho reached jerusalem after some of 100 years of fighting but once they defeated jerusalem they again bought a piece of land from palestinian to build the temple
again the same story
the fact is they won it in war first time they won it in war the other time while the palestinians were there the first time when Abraham came
the second time when Moses came the and this is the third time again after 2000 years when british came |

Very Beginning - The land was for the Jews but they refused to go to the promised land when God asked them to because they thought that they aren't ready to fight for it and were scared to go in.
After the beginning - God gave that land to the Palestinians, and they lived in it for hundreds of years, still living there up till now.
60 years - present - The Jews were being tortured by the Nazis, and they finally remembered that God promised them land long long time ago but it was too late, there was already people in there.. At first they took over slowly by buying properties and taking up space.. And when they became rich enough and big enough, they attacked the Palestinians in their own homes and took over...
Present Present - Both are fighting for it.. It's Palestinian land because the Jews refused to go there year and years ago so it's too late to do it now when there is already people over there.. And P.S. the Jews were never supposed to be a nation, they are supposed to be just like any other religion, just a religion, a Jew can be of any heritage, doesn't necessarily have to have his own homeland..
Feel free to ask me questions and I'll reply back as soon as possible ;)
EDIT: Actually presumtive, Palestine used to be in the same spot but used to be part of Syria, but they spoke in a differenct dialect than the Syrians and had a difference culture so they eventually split up, the Palestinians were the people who built Palestine...
EDIT: Yes 60 years ago, the map said that that land was called Palestine and I consider it a country.. Even if they are of Syria or whatever heritage, if you think otherwise, then let the Americans & Canadians go back to Britain.. |

It belongs to Palestinians ; It has both religious and historical rights;
A) Religions part proves that Israeli's have no right in this land
1)If God promised this land to the Jews, why didn't He fulfill his promise? Because they never received the land of Canaan which are from river of Egypt to river of Iraq.
2) In Genesis 25:10 : "the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth; there Abraham was buried with Sarah his wife"
Purchased, means that he owned nothing and he had to pay for this land. From who? Canaanites (Arabs) of course. So the Jewish claim that he had all this land is so fake according to their Bible!
3) The real promise came to Abraham and his seed, and in Bible Ismael was mentioned as the seed of Abraham many times and he was the oldest son which according to Jewish law has more rights than the younger son! God promised Ismael in Genesis 17:20 : "As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
Now that promise did come true because Muslims who come from Ismael ruled for more than 10 centuries in the greatest civilization the history has ever known and until today they are majority in the God's promised land.
4)Many Israeli citizen today are athiest so claiming that God gave them this land is funny.
B) Historical part proves that children of Israel are foreigners in this land and the real owners are Palestinians
1) Who came first;Children of Israel or Palestinians (Arabs)
Children of Israel have no documents on this land ever, except having a small kingdom which did not included all Jerusalem about 2500 years ago and lasted for a very short time! Even during their rule, many historians confirm that they were a minority in Canaan land which they took by force in the first place from native Canaan (Arab) tribe.
Palestinians have all the right in this land since they have been there before the Children of Israel and they came from Canaan Arabs which genetics prove, and many historians confirm.
2)Who are the Children of Israel
Anthropology, proves that Children of Israel today are not the same who lived in Palestine! Many of them are mixed races and not Semitic! Because they lived all over.
That is why, when claiming any historical right, we have to separate the religion from the origin!
3)What right?
If we were to say that Children of Israel, or today's Jews, came before Palestinians. Just to assume that. What right do they have claiming something after more than 2500 years? Where have they been all this time? And what is your prove?
Does that give the right to Muslims to take Spain, which they ruled for hundreds of years, and until today keep their evidence in almost every Spanish city? Does that give the right to Albans of Balkan to claim for ex Yugoslavia countries, just because they were there first? And Portugal claiming Indonesia? And so goes for other many nations..
If we would allow such thing to happen, this world would become a real mess. Let us leave everything and start digging for historical rights and change the map of the world...
4) Zionist propaganda:
Many Zionists today claim that, Palestine is Jordan and that Palestinians belong there. And that Palestine was empty all the time. They are denying historical fact that Muslims ruled this land for more than 10 centuries, and have evidence of Islamic civilization all over Palestine! How could Muslims and Palestinians live in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and not live in Palestine which is the most beautiful spot on the earth? That is nonsense, because if they were claiming Jordan, they would say it was empty too and Jordanians belong to Palestine.
During the great Islamic rule; Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon was one country under the name "Al Sham countries" It was only divided by British occupation so it can be controlled and make the job easier for Israel!
Muslims during their rule defeated all foreign invaders and defended their lands, while children of Israel were lost somewhere in this world.
That proves that only true owners of the land will stand and die for their lands. |

Israel belongs to whomever can make the Negev green with grass and trees. If you can do that for it, if you love it that much, then its yours, if you can't, then you don't belong there. My inspiration? A car commercial that had an abandoned car, it was really messed up. Within the car there was a piece of cardboard and with a giant marker it was written "she's yours if you can help her."
If you can not make the Negev green, or are even trying, then Israel does not belong to you. |

I would say that Israel should have next to it a Palestinian state. I love Israel, but the Palestinians are human beings also. Not all Palestinians are terrorists and support Hamas. I have seen many moderate Palestinians speak the voice of peace with Israel. I think that the two states should live together side-by-side. You can find out more about the conflict here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli-Palestinian_Conflict |

Israel has existed three times in history, going back to biblical days. Each time in the same location. There never has been a state of Palestine. The region may have been referred to as palestinian, but that didn't refer to the nationality of any people. It is a region like "South Central" is a region. For political reasons, people started identifying themselves as "Palistinian" to counter Jewish claims to the land. This made the conflict over the land much more personal, because it could be claimed that the Jews were displacing Palestinians when Israel was formed (again). But that ignores the existence of Israel historically and the sharing of the land that has existed for thousands of years. |

It was presumably given to the sons of Abraham, which includes both Jews and Arabs.
There were twelve tribes of Israel, but ten were taken off to Persia, and they pretty much liked it and became Persians.
Later, the two tribes that constituted Judea got pissed at the Romans and threw them out. Bad move: they had no idea how friggin many troops the Roans had, and they came back and threw out all the Jews who fought them. There were still a few left, though.
The Arabs took over the place for a while and they were conquered by the Turks. The Europeans took over some parts for a while. The Jews returned in the 1930's through the present time. The Arabs wish they hadn't
Just read James Michener's novel 'The Source' and you will see why there is no easy answer to this question.
'Exodus' by Leon Uris gives the Jewish side of Zionism.
Joe Sacco's graphic novel 'Palestine' gives the Palestinian side.

The Israelites came to the area in 1700 BCE approximately. The first Israelite sovereignty (the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel) was established in 1000 BCE.
The Arabs came in 638 AD.
These are the facts. The rest is subjective. |

Abraham lived there, Moses took us there, Jacob was born there, Jacob gave birth to the twelve tribes of Israel in Israel, King Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem, Cyrus the Great freed the Jews and allowed them to return to Israel, All of this happened thousands of years ago so the Jews should live in Israel. |

Israel's historical claim seems to be the longest and most documented.
Whereas there have been Israeli Jewish Kingdoms and Countries, there has never been a Palestinian entity run by Palestinians. |

Israel's. Palestine snagged it after the Jews were kicked out. Plus Judaism is about 2700 years older than Islam. I say priority gives it to Israel. |

israel belongs to the jewish people, always belonged and will always belong.A common misperception is that all the Jews were forced into the Diaspora by the Romans after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in the year 70 C.E. and then, 1,800 years later, suddenly returned to Palestine demanding their country back. In reality, the Jewish people have maintained ties to their historic homeland for more than 3,700 years.
The Jewish people base their claim to the Land of Israel on at least four premises: 1) the Jewish people settled and developed the land; 2) the international community granted political sovereignty in Palestine to the Jewish people; 3) the territory was captured in defensive wars and 4) God promised the land to the patriarch Abraham.
Even after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the beginning of the exile, Jewish life in the Land of Israel continued and often flourished. Large communities were reestablished in Jerusalem and Tiberias by the ninth century. In the 11th century, Jewish communities grew in Rafah, Gaza, Ashkelon, Jaffa and Caesarea.
The Crusaders massacred many Jews during the 12th century, but the community rebounded in the next two centuries as large numbers of rabbis and Jewish pilgrims immigrated to Jerusalem and the Galilee. Prominent rabbis established communities in Safed, Jerusalem and elsewhere during the next 300 years. By the early 19th century — years before the birth of the modern Zionist movement — more than 10,000 Jews lived throughout what is today Israel.1 The 78 years of nation-building, beginning in 1870, culminated in the reestablishment of the Jewish State.
Israel's international "birth certificate" was validated by the promise of the Bible; uninterrupted Jewish settlement from the time of Joshua onward; the Balfour Declaration of 1917; the League of Nations Mandate, which incorporated the Balfour Declaration; the United Nations partition resolution of 1947; Israel's admission to the UN in 1949; the recognition of Israel by most other states; and, most of all, the society created by Israel's people in decades of thriving, dynamic national existence.
“Nobody does Israel any service by proclaiming its 'right to exist.'
Israel's right to exist, like that of the United States, Saudi Arabia and 152 other states, is axiomatic and unreserved. Israel's legitimacy is not suspended in midair awaiting acknowledgement....

both jews and arabs were living all over the middle east.
then the region was split into 2 countries, a jewish half, israel; and an arab half, jordan.
most jews in jordan (and the rest of the arab world, a million people total) moved to israel and some arabs moved to jordan (israel invited all the arabs to stay and be part of israel, some did and some didn't).
some arabs never could live amongst jews so they have a problem with israel. but israel is a jewish state and jordan is an arab palestinian state. |
