Israel, please comment?

Arab Jews (Arabic: اليهود العرب‎, Hebrew: יהודים ערבים‎)
Approximately one half of Israeli-Jews, (nearly 2,900,000 out of 5,840,000 Million) could be described as Arab-Jews; thus using the term would imply that Israel (with an additional near 20% of the population defined as Palestinian-Arabs) is a 60% Arab state.

M'dear, I've lived in Israel for half a century, I've never met an Israeli that refers to himself as an Arab Jew.
Some will say they used to live in Egypt or syria but all say they are Israelis.
Israel is our home, we are proud to be Israelis, there is no other home like it for us.

I'll tell you more, Israeli Arabs who travel abroad are mighty proud of their Israeli passports.

This country is 100% Israeli.

Arab Jew is a misnomer. Tell a Jew in israel who comes from an arab country that he is indeed an arab..........see their response......Sarah you are an Israeli arab.....i'm pretty sure you see you know the difference here........

Sorry, but there is no such thing as an Arab Jew. If you mean Jews who used to live in Arab countries, they are called Mizrachi. Although they may be considered "cousins" to the Arabs, they are Jews first and foremost and cannot be confused in any way, shape, or form with any Muslim/Christian Arab bloodlines.

PaperbackWriter JPA
The correct term for them is Mizrachi Jews.

Arabs already own and control 99.999% of the Middle East, and all the oil. So sorry - but no, they 'aint also getting Israel.

Perhaps people should be more outraged at what is currently happening to Jews who have lived for thousands of years in Arab and Muslim countries such as Yemen: http://ajewwithaview.wordpress.com

How much legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg?
Still 4.
Giving something another name does not change its properties.
Arab ethnicity and nationality are not identical. What you call "Arab Jews" might have had an Arab nationality, but that had changed when they moved to Israel.

gottago
The mizrachi Jews (mizrach means Eastern and refers to Jews of Middle Eastern descent) make up a huge part of Israeli Jewish Society.
When the Jews were exiled from the land of Israel 2000 years ago, many of them settled in Babylon which later became Persia which is now primarily Iran and Iraq. (for example the Jewish Community in Baghdad was one of the oldest in the world). Some of those Jews moved to Israel of their own free will when the State was established and they could finally realize the millenia long dream to return to their homeland. Most, however, were forced to leave their countries (Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt...) because of persecution by the Muslim governments. Those Middle Eastern Jews relocated and were accepted by Jewish communities all over the world but since Israel is our holy land and it is close and the culture is similar, the vast majority of them ended up in Israel.
To answer your question, You could say that 60% of Israelis came from Arab countries in the middle east.

Einav
you can't change the facts that israel is a majority jewish state. there is no such thing as an arab jew.....there are mizrachi jews, which are jews that come from countries such as iran and iraq....but no such thing as an arab jew. my boyfriend falls into your category of "arab jews", and i would LOVE to see what he does to you if you called him an arab....

If those facts are true, which I'm not sure they are, applied, then that would mean that they identify themselves as jews, which therefore, would make them a jewish state. Just because they might be partially arab doesn't mean they are fully, so you can't count them as that. With your statistics, that would mean that israel is also that 80% of the population is jewish. In other words, your twisting numbers around.

there are no "arab jews".
there are jews whose parents come from arab countries, like morocco, algeria, tunis, yemen, iraq and iran. to be clear, most were thrown out. and they settled in israel and their children became sabras. they are called edot hamizrach, עדות המזרח, the oriental jewry.

I have visited Israel 25 years ago.
Culturally I have found her 70% European and 30% Middle Eastern.
At that time many Israelis I met, dreamed about peace and go to Saudi Arabia to make some money.
It all depends. If it will be peace Israel will become 100% ME country, But at that time ME countries will be more like us.
