Jerusalem is Gods city given to the Jews.
God also gave the Arabs most of the middle east but not Israel and certainly not Jerusalem.

But everyone wants it, Christians, Arabs, the UN, Europe, The Pope etc....
But none of them will have it.

PS. if Jerusalem was such a Holy place for the Arabs I have to wonder why they let it become a waste land while under their rule.
Not even Mohammed the founder of Islam ever stepped one foot in Jerusalem (a dream doesnt count).

Arabs will say it is theirs and Jews will say it is theirs. Each of them have strong reasons.

This is my answer:

Jerusalem belongs to the followers of the three religions. Muslims because the Aqsua mosqe is there and it is considered the third holy place for them. Jews because it s their holiest place. Christians because Jesus was born there.

It should be for both. Jews and Arabs are like family (this from a Jewish colleague). You're so close to each other, the antipathy and rivalries really escalate. Nobody can hurt you like someone you're close to.

Watch the DVD "Promises" (google it) for a really good understanding of the situation through the eyes of Palestinian and Israeli kids. Prepare to understand and have your heart broken.

It is crazy to be killing people over a land dispute - I saw that Promises movie someone mentioned, and I have also seen a show where Israeli and Palestinian doctors are able to work professionally & respectfully in a local hospital - working together side-by-side SAVING lives! I think the majority of "normal" residents of both would like to be friends and neighbors. I think they are just taught the wrong information, and either believe it or are too afraid to contest it.

Jerusalem is a place. Places cannot think. With that in mind on a being can live and think. Jerusalem is today the capital of Israel. It is the place where the first and second temple was build to god. This makes it holy ground to the Jews. This is the place where Christianity was born. Jesus would end his holy life in Jerusalem. He also taught in the Temple of Jerusalem. This act makes it the holiest city in Christianity. This city is also the place where Mohamed rode his white stead into heaven. He did this from the Dome of the Rock. This place is on the same area as the old temple.

So it is a very simple answer to a question that was phrases wrong. Jerusalem today is a city for Jews, Christian, and Muslims. If all three religions could see this, it would end a lot of hate. Jerusalem could still be the capital of Israel but offer access the the city for all who believe in what they believe in. Mecca however is a closed city that non Muslim cannot enter, I feel that is wrong. It should be opened so that Islam can be better understood by all religions are we all not people of the book?

2000 + 622 = 2,600, Judaism is 2,600 years older, and has had a continuous physical presence in Israel and especially Jerusalem throughout the ages.

Look at archeological fact, after pre-Israelite artifacts, the oldest remains are Jewish artifacts, with Christians coming later, and later later, Muslims came in. Islam also built its mosque ON the remains of two previous Jewish Temples that were thousands of years older.

To deny that Jews are a part of Jerusalem is idiotic. To say that Islam was there before the Jews is an absolutely retarded concet. Islam knows it, Judaism knows it (of course!), everyone knows it.

So, if Jews are generous, they will let you worship in the City. And they are.... no other religion has given Jerusalem a level of tolerance other than the Jews when they have controlled their rightful City. Today, under Jewish Jerusalem, Muslims and Christians can practice freely. If the City was Muslim, all Jews and Christians would be slaughtered or driven out, never to return. Same thing if Christians controlled the City.

Where is Jerusalem more prevalent? In Judaism or Islam? Jerusalem is hardly mentioned in the Koran, only mentioned as an obscure reference " the fartherest place" (yes fartherest place, this is not a typo, this is the translation).
BTW, I should mention that Islam has highly disrespected the Jews from day one. Muhammad's night journey to "the fartherest" place, took place on a mythical horse called
El- Buraq: a horse with a woman's head and a peacock's tail, that could "in one stride cover the distance of the eyesight". Muhammad supposedly tethered his horse on the Western Wall...... tethering a beast to another religion's holy place is considered extremely rude to me, don'tcha think?
Anyway.... Jerusalem is only mentioned a tiny bit in Islam. In Judaism however, Jerusalem is elevated above all paradises. There are hundreds of names for Jerusalem in Judaism and the name "Yerushalayim" (Jerusalem) is mentioned over 600 times during the daily prayers. Jews always pray towards the direction of Jerusalem, a prayer style copied by Muslims as they pray towards Mecca. The highest blessing in Judaism is "next year in Jerusalem." Even HaTikvah ( The Hope), the Israeli national anthem says " with One Eye looking Eastward towards Zion" As the exiled Jews sat at the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in the heart of Babylon ( now Iraq), they lamented, " If I forget thee O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its cunning, may my tongue cleave to its palate." Now people in the history of the world has ever strived so strongly to regain their rights and their land. Jews firmly own Jerusalem and Israel, and if you are nice to them, they will let you worship there.

The matter and the fact is that this land has been of good and great importance to the lord and both of them(Quite possible the one and Only) know this very well. I hope I don't have to tell them how.

Now this Great Good Lord has ordered his humanity(that he created and has planned centuries back) to understand the fact that the Torah that he once sent them to Guide them and tell them the true path was very unfortunately corrupted by illful minded people on this earth and who left it with drawbacked guidance. I appretiate the love that the Jewish people have towards their religion and that must be appreciated...but they must at the same time try to understand the fact that their lord has sent them a new message and that they must now accept it as the lawful guidance from the lord of Moses...atleast try to believe me...before one goes on telling everything that gets out of their sense as being out of false informations. When they ought to find out and let the informations affect them if they are found to be of such status.

I hope the Jews and the Arabs plus all the whole Muslim world gets what is it with the land of Jeruselum. And I pray to the Lord of Abraham to help the whole world get what he wants from them and let them understand His approach on matters and ket them understand His power that can cross boundries formed in our minds.

Who found it? Should belong to the ones who found the city. As Mecca was founded by the Muslim, Rome was founded by Romans, Jerusalem was founded by the Jews. Thus it belongs to them.

If you give the logic of "It belong to those who conquered it", the same conclusion can be made.

I think Jerusalem is for Jews. But, I know they'll never stop fighting so they should just officially decree Palestine it's own country and then divide Jerusalem in half and make a Jewish sector on one side and an Arab sector on the other. That way they'll stop fighting.

Edit: William B, Mecca Is Closed because it is too holy. That is why it couldnt be the capital of the Muslim Empires when the leaders of unislamic states came, they wouldnt be allowed in, for that reason, It is also not Saudi's. It is closed because The Prophet Wanted it to be. Not all people are good. If a Hater came to mecca, he could easily disguise himself as a Muslim, and plant a bomb on the kaaba, and while the people do their LAST Tawaf (circle) around The Kaaba. boom. See, Thatis why it is closed, and the only way to get in is by Shahadah.
