Most Palestinians want peace with Israel, survey says?

What do these statistics mean to you?

More than one Palestinian in two favours recognition of Israel, more than two thirds want negotiations to start again, and four fifths want to main maintain the truce. Most also don't agree with the protests over the Muhammad caricatures in front of the European Union bureaus in Gaza and the United Nations bureaus in Hebron.

Matter of fact is that the State Israel exists. There is nothing stupid like "whiping Israel of the map". Of course Israelis and Paliestinians want to have peace. Every human being with comon sense wants to live in peace. But - there are always some hardliners who will avoid to come to a solution. One day it will be on Israel's site, the next day it will be on the Palestinian's site. Both sites have to make compromises which is the hardes thing to do. (most people even have problems to do compromises in their marriage/partnership).
In the current conflict it would be much better (my personal opinion) if the USA would not be involved. It should be a neutral country like Sweden, Norway etc. For my taste the USA is not neutral at all and that way the conflict will never be solved.

I do not agree with the violent protests about the Prophet Muhammed (PUB) caricatures, because most of these protestors even did not know what the whole thing was about. They just followed radical scholars. Educated Muslims also did not agree with the carictures, but never would get on the street and get violent. It was the same with the protests against Rushdie's book. None of these protesters ever read his book. Just followed some scholars. These people are uneducated and being used. That is one reason that gives a Islam a bad impression. Many Westerners just go by that and forget about the rest of it.

If you want to know about peace, talk to mothers who fear for the live of their kids.

Salam

Hi Mimi,

That's good to know. The problem is that the democratically elected representatives, Hamas, still won't recognise Israel's right to exist, which makes it impossible for Israel to have any type of discussion with them. But it's great news that a good number of Palestinians themselves don't support the Hamas stance on this, hopefully this will be a way forward and help progress towards peace.

EDIT TO DIANA:

Listen, I know that Israeli towns are being attacked and it's horrible. But there's no need to take it out on Mimi - she always posts really positive messages and she is willing to have a real debate. So please don't be so aggressive towards her: if you believe she is wrong or mistaken, by all means explain to her or correct her, as we all do with each other. Mimi is great and she is open to peaceful dialogue. You have been rude to her, and there's no need.

EU CITIZEN and others who dismiss the rocket attacks on towns like Sderot: they are disrupting life for Israelis. Have you seen the film of terrified Israeli children huddling under schooldesks during a rocket attack? And there have been serious injuries. So don't just dismiss these attacks.

Israelis and Palestinians both want peace. It's just a question of how it happens.

That is all excellent news, and I hope those statistics hold true when the next election rolls around. As of right now, the ones making the headlines and the ones causing the conflict are the sizable minority. It's all well and good that most Palestinians are against terror and against the riots over the caricatures, but all that evil needs to flourish is for good people to do nothing. Until the majority exerts itself, they will remain but a statistic. I look with interest to the next election and hope that this time the dormant statistic proves true.

Worldluv
I'm happy you've brought these statistics to our attention Mimi. I lived in Palestine for a few years, working and living alongside Christian Arabs and some Muslims. My friends there tell me that they recognize Israel and all they want is the same rights and privileges.

I have to agree with Propheti - I witnessed many things that made it clear that Israel has been trying to rid the area of Arabs. I could give a lot of examples but here's just one, that very recently happened. A clergyman from Jordan, who lives and serves in Palestine, had a valid re-entry visa for Israel. He went to Jordan for a day and upon his return, had his visa suddenly cancelled at the Israeli border. He now can't return to his church or his home. Seems Israel is now doing this to other Arab Christian leaders who used to travel in and out of the Palestinian Territories (see http://www.hcef.org/index.cfm/mod/news/ID/16/SubMod/NewsView/NewsID/1853.cfm for more on the halt to routine re-entry visas).

For peace to occur, it is important that Palestinians favour recognition of Israel but equally important is for Israelis to favour recognition of a Palestinian state -- or at least have them become full Israeli citizens with all the same rights and the same treatment as other Israelis. When there is justice for everyone, there will be hope of peace.

its great to discuss politics ,but theres an evil out there (on both sides ) and everywhere in the world, any evil one who can hurt an innocent child and woman! are Evil and they will answer to God !! and that day will come,as my day will come! Peace.

pero_102
i reckon that, but some on the other don't want it,and concoct controversies that they are shelled by katusha rockets. I wonder how in the world would i throw a handful of small munition when i know the retaliation would be 100x fold? It is not an act of war but of crime, so best is to make investigation and arrest the culprits.
it's no different with the 9/11 controversies.

add:historically, nations got a bunch of great armies, but why did they destroyed themselves?

Irrespective of what they want, we shall look into what is happening, because what you want is different than what you are forced to do. Circumstances do not allow peace loving Israelis or Palestinians to contribute in any way, and that is the bitter truth.

exactly, its the effing radicals that have to blow themselves up who **** everything up for everyone!!!

pr0ph3t1cl1v1ty
Yeah, just one problem.

Israel doesn't favor recognition of Palestine.

It's not Palestinians that want Israel wiped off the map. Quite the opposite is true, however.

Edit: Diana, you have no idea what you're talking about. Yeah, yeah, Israel has a great army. We know. You know how we know? WE GAVE IT TO YOU, THAT'S HOW. You know, we, as in the UNITED STATES. So give yourself another big pat on the back there. And no, it's not that Israel is tolerant of Palestine - it's that Israel knows that if it struck at Palestine with "all our force" as you put it, the rest of the world would come down on Israel - and the US, and we'd ALL have a big mess on our hands. So let's get real here.

EU Citizen
To Hurricane: How many people died from Katyusha rockets? How people (civilans) died from Israeli air strikes?

You will find much more property was damaged and innocent lives lost from Israeli Air strickes then from any Katyusha rockets.

Katyusha rockets are pathetic at best.

ST
The palestinians I met will never recognize Israel, it is either all or nothing. They may accept having Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem for the time being, but will eventually want it all back.

That dose not surprise me, as another person said it is the 20% of radicals that rather destroy both sides than see the other prosper.

That is why I am sick of this, I have a simple proposition.

It has been shown in the last 40 years neither side can reach an agreement.

So lets end this. Israel exists so lets just incorperate the West Bank into Israel. The Palestians who wish to live their in peace will be granted perminate residencey with the option of citizenship, just like those in East Jerusalem.

Those who wish to leave will be paid compensation to move wherever they wish to go.

And those who wish to fight will be deported to Gaza.

diana
honey let me tell you something!!!
do you have any idea what kind of army we have?? a very strong one! I believe everyone knows that...
when people say that Israeli army is the strongest in the world.. it's not a myth or an expression it's a fact!
every single day there is a city whitch is being bombed by terrorists...
what do you think will happen if we will realy strike back! with all of our force!!!! I'm sure you know the answer....
we tolerate.... because we are humanitarians, because WE still hope for peace...
so don't come and lecture us!!! because YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!

So you accuse me of BS'ing statistics?!
HA!

EDIT: So the reason Palestinians are not terrorists is b/c their katyushas are pathetic? True, the rockets are crude and mostly innefective, but they are still terrorists. I'm one of the top notch physics and chem students in my grade, so should I gather a bunch of my buddies together and work on a garage project- making a real, effective rocket? Obviously palestinians don't have science lol.
