Move my family to Dubai?

I'm making plans for the future and I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to move my whole family to Dubai as I heard it was a good Islamic country. What do you think? Are the rights and laws good there etc?

Well it depends where you are moving from. UAE is an Islamic country, that is true. However if you are looking for rigid conformity to Islamic law in government, UAE is not for you. It is very liberal by mid-east standards. For example, they are quite tolerant of other religions and it is common to see Christian and Hindu churches / temples around the city. Also women there enjoy many of the same rights as men and the style of dress is quite western (short skirts, bikinis on the beach, etc.)

Also, consider that Dubai is no longer the booming market it once was. The government is in lots of trouble right now as Dubai has no oil and the financial and real estate industries are in terrible shape. So make sure you have something secure lined up well in advance of deciding to move your family there!

If you are having trouble with the recent economic blow dealt to Dubai, look into Abu Dhabi as well. It is only an hour and half up the road and their economy is still driven by oil exploration. This has made it much more resilient in recent times.

hello, I have researched dubia recently and kept my eye on changes over thier. i can tell you that dubai is changing overnight, literally. Dubais reputation as a tight knit well preserved community is overwith. I think its a shame, as the leader in dubai ( against the citizens wishes) is creating HUGE AMOUNTS OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/WORLDS LARGEST CASINO ETC. hes building infrastructure, industry, businesses overnight! the island is being turned into one huge las vegas full of casinos, escorts, party town! their leader has construction going 24hrs a day building casinos, hotels, restaurants etc. even more disheartening is the fact that thousands of immigrants are flooding the city daily!!! this is insane!!! the citizens come from all over europe, asia, south american, on a daily basis!! the place is going to be one small overburdened melting pot!!! the religious lines will be as blurred as the cultural/nationality lines will be blurred as well. this country will be over populated, dirty, full of crime, and worse, huge amounts of unemployment will exist as the population is surging daily!!! right now they say this is the city too move too and get jobs, but this is changing as immigration is booming and the jobs will fill up, leaving an overburden population! good luck! i do not feel that the mulsim religion will be the majority of the population there, as too many people are flooding this city.... its a shame, as dubai is a beautiful paradise, it will soon be an overburdened city full of the same problems as the united states, crime, poverty, etc.

well it is islamic but there is a lot of tourism there which means there are some unislamic things that have a blind eye turned to them. generally speaking tho it is good. the more pressing question for u would be how to take yr family there, u cant just move there. it depends on yr nationality. u need to apply for a job and u need to earn above a certain amount to qualify for a visa that will allow u to bring yr family. that should be yr first concern looking for a job there that will allow u to support yr family. good luck.

Yes it is an Islamic country and the ruler works hard to maintain the traditions of that religion. However, Dubai is a place which attracts considerable amounts of interest from western countries. And the way in which the country is growing it is clear that Dubai intends to pursue visitors. This means you could find yourself more exposed to western cultural values in some forms, and inevitably a westernised future Dubai.

Are you Somalian? I love Somalia.
