Wise Heart

My beloved Egypt tell me something you like in Egypt in few words?

For those frustrated and living in their tragedy. This question is to mention at least one thing you like in Egypt. I expect you can't answer it.
It's not our fault that you can't recognise yourself if you are Egyptians or any other nationality.
* If you are not living your own tragedy that affected your communication with people .. go on tell me one positive thing about Egypt.
* If you don't hate Egypt or Egyptians ... go on tell me one positive thing you have for Egypt
* If you think you know Egypt inspite you were born away or lived many years away ... go on tell me one thing you like in Egypt.
* If you are really Egyptian or friend of Egypt .. go on tell me.

If you are not one of the above and you can't tell ... what can we call you then ? I'm challenging you guys.

Wise Heart, your question is really a masterpiece. it compels everyone to open his/her heart and pour his/her feelings.well, i'll be brief and mention one thing to abide by the challenge. WHAT I LIKE BEST IS THE NATURAL SMILE THAT SHINES ON THE FACE OF EGYPTIANS, whether they know you or dont . it is like the sun that shines to make you feel blessed by warmth.

Dear Wise Heart. I live in Scotland, and would like to tell you that, your very Egypt has enthralled me for many many years. I have never been to Egypt, but have longed to travel along The Mother Nile to visit Thebes and to humbly bestow my eyes on the Great Temple at Karnak. To visit the Museum of Luxor and see again the golden death mask of Tutankhamun. I went to our city of Edinburgh to see these magnificent artifacts and long to see them in this life time, once more, in the heart of your very Egypt. Not as a treasure seeker, just to feel the history and experience the wonderful customs and traditions that ooze from your great country. I would also like to visit the tombs of all the great Pharaohs Cheops, Seti, Ramses, Queen Hathepsut, Akenathen and look at the decorations and try to fathom, how your ancestors built these magnificent monuments to time. Long will these great people be remembered, no other country in the world will inspire such an illustrious past. You must feel very very proud of your country and your roots.

I love the Cairo of Naguib Mahfouz. with its dusty alleys full of kids playing, cafes with men chatting and arguing while Om Kolthoum is singing through the radio, Ancient Mosques with the sound of Athan, old houses with courts and fountains, Shops smelling inscence and spice and never ending nights.

This is my Cairo... This is Egypt I love.

This may seem really strange, but the things I miss most about Egypt when I'm away are the things which really annoy us when we are here!

Lots of people have said lots of things ... the culture, the civilization, the people...etc.
However, when I really miss Egypt I would close my eyes and try to remember all the noise, the smells, the crowds, the dusty streets, the million little things which create that unique atmosphere that makes Egypt more than a country, but a home. I know that we are far from perfect and that we have lots of problems, but I even miss some of those problems! The first time I was stuck in a traffic jam after being away for a period of time I was actually smiling from ear to ear! The taxi driver was cursing and shouting and must have thought that I had gone completely crazy on account of the heat!

I can't pinpoint any particular thing or things. Egypt as a whole has a certain aspect which defies any attempt to define it. I just love it the way it is, and I hope that I can help if even in a small way in making it a better place.

Egypt is Egypt. I cannot say a few things for fear that my answer will be too short. What we know about ourselves the non biased people know too. When honest tourists come they tell me:" I want you to know that my dream was always to come to Egypt, I worked so hard for many years to do it". This comment is almost a regular phrase that I hear from tourists. Then after our work is done that is to say explaining, drawing their attention to meanings of gestures and art developments through three thousand years, answering, making everything clear, showing the best angle for photographing, the landscape, the nature of the the people, and that of our country, telling them about the history, geography, what will they see in Luxor and Aswan after I leave them, waiting for the slow, the elderly and the small ones, exchanging email addresses, taking joint photos, advising them what is worth doing and seeing, warm goodbyes, warm thanks, wishing them the best and wishing to see them again with the rest of the family, after all this and much more, what I hear in 90 percent of my working days is that they are so happy that they came and that they intend to come back and will advise their friends to do the same.
Sorry if this is not a direct answer to your question, but it came from the heart and I can't think of anything more, again for fear of skipping an important feature that I should not escape.

I am American and LOVE Egypt. I have only visited there 2 times but I plan on going again and again. Yes, I can list many tourist places that are all wonderful but I love the streets with no names too. The man on the corner selling food and the friendly children that want to talk to you. I love the people of Egypt...I have never met such warm and loving people ever. You are gracious and kind. You know how to love other people and ask for nothing in return. My son in law is Egyptian and my future husband is Egyptian. The tourist sights are all wonderful..but it is the people that make you want to go there again and again.

I love Egypt because:

The Sun warms right through to your bones

The food gives your tummy the full and satisfied feeling

The smell gives comfort because it is familiar

You never feel alone because people wont let you be

You can sit and watch dramas unfolding in the streets and therefore who needs a TV.

The Adan reminds you that all is well

There's a place for everyone in the society

The funniest jokes are told in Egypt

As a women you actually have an excuse to buy new shoes every month because the pavements are interesting

the yogurt, milk, cream, cheese all so tasty.

Marriott Bakery is world class, the meatloaf ya salaam

Last but not least when you are a women and you have pre- menstrual stress there are always plenty of perverts on the streets that are in need of a tongue lashing or a good old slap.

I'm not egyptian, but do appreciate what I've learned and am learning by my exposure to the culture via those I've met. I like trying to understand what could possibly make people the way they are and egyptians are some of the most nationalistic, proud ppl. I've met to the point that it's not uncommon to hear it said by egyptians that they are the sweetest, kindest and most intelligent people in the world. However, those are the sentiments mostly shared by egyptians who haven't travelled out of egypt often, and when I've spoken w/ egyptians who have had the opportunity to distance themselves from that mentality by having lived in other countries there are always stories teeming w/ interesting reasons as to why egyptians seem to be so outwardly optimistic. The hell that is everyday life there for many (probably not the lifestyle of the ones who frequent this forum) + the massive numbers of people who haven't turned to violence, escapism via drugs/alcohol/just plain killed themselves would make a great case study for strength of character + how to overcome adversity--I just think egypt as a whole has more hope for its future since it's such a mess on so many levels if people used that strength of character and combined it with a reality check. What modern strength other than a proud character does egypt have? Try to be as great as your ancestors, you can do it and I hope you do.
