Proposal to regulars in this section? |
I (and many other here) don't appreciate the fact that some people are excited about reporting abuse even when it's not there.
I propose that all regulars should be tolerant of differing opinions. There's are some regulars here that I disagree with almost everything (if not all) that they post. The situation is mostly at a boiling point but I alwsy respect their right to opine.
Some people have had to recreate accounts so many times it's no more fun. I realised that most regulars are either SA or ex-SA. We all know why we are mostly at each other's throats. But shouldn't we be more tolerant and not run to report unless one has really broken the rules Yahoo! Naswers guidelines - which I think are reasonable. Your views! |

Moloi i totally agree with you, i have never ever reported anybody and have had quite a few of my answers reported but i suppose it's par for the course. I have a strong feeling it's not a South African or ex- South African that does this all the time, we are used to having a good fight once in a while then have a beer together afterwards that's the SA way. |

Well, I've been on Yahoo Answers for a year now and didn't even know it until one of the usual answerers here brought my attention to it by sending me a happy birthday e-mail. (Thanks again.)
From my first visit, I saw lots of travel-based question going around in this category. Which was what this category was made for. But then a couple of Proud South Africans came along and made this category fun by asking new and fun questions. Many of them have left this section because of all the negative questions being posted as of late. I ,however, sign in every single day just to see whazzap in our beautiful country.
And with the help of the "Proud South African Club" we tried to keep this category fun and entertaining. That's why you'll always see me asking three types of questions. Political, sports-related and some other fun question.
The ''Proud South African Club" used to report abuse in this category, but not anymore. We have come to the realization that all opinions should be respected and that's why I haven't made a "report abuse" since Alf Garnett was "Comrade Tony"!
I do appreciate all questions asked and answered in this category and I love reading them, but most of them these days make me feel sad and helpless to the situation in South Africa. But I acknowledge the effort being made here to get the attention of the world in recognizing the problems we face.
I also feel ashamed that I was responsible for people losing their accounts. Alf was actually the only one! But still! He is now well respected by many and also by me.
I am a proud South African living and working abroad, because even though I speak 5 of the official languages from South Africa....it is still an impossible task to find a job there as an interpretor. And I wanna believe that one day it would be a better place for my kids. Because I do believe South Africans are the best ever and a South African education is well worth it. That's why I send Korean kids there every year on homestays.
I suggest we find answers through Yahoo Answers. That was the reason we signed up. Wasn't it? And of course... we should try to find solutions! And while we're here, why don't we have some fun as well?
Cheers guys and have a good weekend.....all of you! |

I strongly agree with you, I've just received 3 violations this very afternoon and will probably not be able to log into this account tomorrow again.
I must say I was extremely tempted to report Watzzzup but managed to controll myself during our little tiff.
I realise my opinions are offensive to alot of users on this forum and their opinions are offensive to me but we must try and respect each other even if it is testing at times.
So in summary, dont be hypocrits and tattle tales, please!!!!
Thanks Moloi. |

I agree with you. as was previously said, attack the question not the person.
If you don't agree you can say so in your answer!!!!! |

Brad Morris 8
|
I absolutely agree.
As you can see from my moniker - Brad Morris 8 - I'm on my 8th account. A lot of people don't like what I have to say, so they shut me down time and time again.
I don't think you're a bad guy, Moloi, and in reality I think we could have a couple of beers together - despite our philosophical differences.
I'm in. I won't report abuse if no one else does. |

I'm still rather new to this section, and I just got my first violation...I would blame Smiley or Bull III, but their answers got removed as well so I don't know who the hell it was. I'm guessing it had something to do with using the word f*ck and sh*t.
Well here's to you assh*le!

Thumbs up!
On Tuesday I decided that this section needed a bit of comic relief (for obvious reasons) and so I posted 2 jokes which I thought were quite relevant, in a tongue and cheek way, and they and most of my subsequent questions and answers have been deleted?!
Yes, it is a pity that one can so easily have answers deleted on Yahoo.
Freedom of speech for all I say.
This is certainly a good lesson in politics for all.
I think that at some stage in life an individual has to learn that when expressing ones personal opinions not everyone may agree, and in fact the views and attitudes of others may even be offensive.
It´s important to bounce back from 12 thumb downs and try to understand and appreciate all points of views.
Should we answer questions on the basis that the answers we give may receive the most thumbs up, or do we speak our mind, full knowing that what we have to say may be castigated by most others and receive a majority of thumbs down?
The joy of politics! |

Vango

I agree, Moloi. Doing that is cowardly and just plain immature.
If one really think someone is talking bullsh!t, rather just give it a thumbs down rating. |
|

DolphinLami
 |
I completely agree with you. I think it is quite childish for one to feel that they don't like someone's answer then they report them. Just get on with it. I even find this to be a great way of expressing opinion, since I am such a coward, I will never tell the gov't or political parties what I think of them. So, please stop reporting me for voicing my opinion. |
|

Great Blistering Barnacles
|
Agreed! And may those who report abuse for no reason get blisters on their... barnacles! |

I totally agree. If you don't like a question, don't answer it. If you really don't like an answer, give it a thumb down. But reporting is over the top. Although I have reported that bloody jessica woman with her funny site every day the last week. :-)
Good on you though, I hope those that answer keep with the agreement. |

So Moloi,
You are one of the good guys after all.
I might not agree with everything you have to say, or others, for that matter, but I have never reported anyone - I have always believed that everyone has a right to say their piece and should be given the space to say it.
Agreeing or not is besides the point, that is what makes the debate so good.
Keep going guys, this is a great forum for coming to understand how other people think about the same problem. |
|

Ni Ten Ichi Ryu
 |
Agreed.
It gets so ridiculous sometimes it's laughable. I received a few violations recently. Someone provided the lyrics to a song, asked which song it was and I provided the correct answer because I have the song in my collection and obviously know what it is. The asker selected it as the best answer. A day later it was removed as a violation for "Insulting other participants." I had to laugh.
I provided the name of the song which was "Rock This Party" by Bob Sinclair, that's all. If someone can tell me where the insult was I'd be greatfull.
It's actually quite funny though. |

I think Yahoo should also learn to check out reported questions themselves before they agree to delete them, or do they? i am not sure. |
|

@homeincapetown
|
I'm all for open debate. And honest, balanced answers.
Maybe as part of this 'treaty' people could agree not to frame their questions using militant and provocative headlines (regardless of which end of the political spectrum they inhabit)
Just put the question out there in plain, simple question language! |
