You can feel safe to go.
One thing you and some other people here should understand (I mean the ones who were worried for your safety, not the hatemongers who just came to say how evil Israel is cos it won't disappear when they tell it to), is that the current war is not affecting all of Israel but only a certain part of it. The airplanes are bombing in Gaza and the Hamas rockets are falling all over the south of Israel, but these places are nowhere near Jerusalem and the kibbutz you are going to stay in. You'll never hear a single alarm or bombing where you'll stay and you will barely feel the war at all, except for on the news and from the conversations you'll hear around you from people concerned about the well-being of the people of the south and the citizens of Gaza.
Israel is always under some kind of attack or struggle, yet people live a very normal life here. You shouldn't miss out on a great opportunity like this to study abroad, you'll have the time of your life in a kibbutz with friends.
So take a map of Israel, sit down with your parents, and show them where you'll be and where the war is. Remind them how close you are going to be to all the holiest places in the world, the ones even extremist fundmentalists wouldn't dream of bombing. And tell them they should come visit you too at some point during your semester. :)
Good luck! |

don't go. EIE might have tough restrictions but that's not gonna stop someone from hurting you. |

personally, i would wait for about a week, see if the bombing slows down, if it does id go. if it doesnt slow down, just gets worse or stay the same, i wouldnt go. but that sounds like a really cool trip. |

yes, go... just dont travel near the border of gaza. israel is in fact one of safest nations on earth the security is very tight, and they have armed soldiers in every city ready to protect you if something happens. it is very unlikely for you to get hurt. very few people in israel have died from hamas's attempts to kill us... good luck and kiss the holy land for me! |

i would say go, if its a well known safe program. |

Sure sweety! Do whatever you like. Its no different than traveling anywhere else. You won't see war at all...
NOTICE, there are 30 answers. This is due mostly to around 10 people who have 2 or 3 accounts wanting to troll here, disrupt things, hate, and prevent people from going to Israel.
Too bad people going to Israel tend to have their mind made up a tiny bit more than people going to say... Bavaria right after 9/11 when Muslims nearly destroyed tourism altogether. |

Hi Spring (nice name!)
Well the conflict happening between Israel and Gaza is getting worse by each day. over 800 Palestinians have been killed were 15 Israels have been killed. IF YOU CAN, try to book the trip for another time as the war is hectic and rockets are being fired ever now and again so in my opinion it would be safer to stay were you live and wait till the conflict of the 2 sides have calmed down.
I know that the Study EIE is really important so its really your parents decision of you should go or not but if i were in your boots i wouldn't go mainly to the prior that more civilians are being killed each day! |

YES, it is safe to go. As long as you don't go near where the fighting is, you will be fine. As soon as you land, you will feel completely safe; it will surprise you. You'll regret not going, and once you're there, you'll understand why the majority of these posters have no idea what they're talking about. |

My son went over with Birthright during one of the intifadas. These groups travel with armed soldiers and very heavy security. They do not go anywhere dangerous. He had a great time. They're not shelling Jerusalem. My daughter is going next month and we are going in April. |

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for schools to be the target of choice for missiles. It is understandable that your parents would be getting worried about their child going. It is an amazing opportunity for you, but perhaps you should consider checking to see if the program is available next year, when things may be smoother over there. |

I don't think there's a problem. Hamas wouldn't dare attack anywhere near Jerusalem. Besides, as long as you stay out of, like, Gaza and Sderot, you're good.
Have fun! You'll love the kibutzim. It's one of those things you have to do in life. =)
By the way, craziness is nothing new in Israel. The IDF has done a pretty good job of maintaining stable city life. So, no worries! |

Maybe you should postpone the program for a few months, just to be on the safe side, especially if you' re meant to travel all over the country. |

how heavily protected from airstrikes? rockets? etc can it be? If you went to Israel now you'd be a bit of a twit. |

well, israeli troops are heartless and have been killing innocent women and children. they also killed several american journalist and american protester who were there protesting a few months back. there has always been fighting there since the creation of Isreal the fake state. if i were you it would be safer to stay home because the israeli troops are heartless cowards and they dont hold back gun fire from no one |

I'd say its really up to you the fighting in Israel is really heavily protected so i really think you will be safe there, but it really all comes down to whether you want to risk your life for EIE program! |

obviously not. your chances of being a victim in a terrorist attack or similar are so high its ridiculous. sorry if I sound forward, but its the truth.

This link is a US Govt webpage on countries and territories US citizens shouldnt travel to. Plus, keep in mind that Americans and schools are part of primary targets. |
