Should Jerusalem be an international city?

After all, it is home and a holy site to three religions. Can you imagine if these three united, the world will believe in one God and we might be at peace.

Jerusalem should be a holy site for all three religions. And not to any radical political movements like Zionism...

And any person who believes in God's words should agree on that.

That was originally a key component under the 1947 Partition Plan, which the Jewish Agency accepted and it is recognized as the legal predessesor of the current government. So far as I know it is still international law. It is however now what you would call a dead-letter law. But yes, that was the plan and it was a good one and should be enforced since it's still on the books.

Yes it probably should be, there would surely be more peace

It is unlikely it will unite anybody. all imply there is only one God but strangely it is theirs!

Helel was a minister and was lecturing about Jerusalem
"the two women were claiming the kid each one of them said that the kid was hers,so King Solomon ordered guards to make the kids in two halves,
and give each woman a half ,so one woman was happy and accepted the that, the other was crying asking king Solomon to give the kid for the other woman"
So according to Helel Israel unified Jerusalem and Israel wants Jerusalem as its capital undivided (so that is not Solomons solution)
well
What is Jerusalem
Jerusalem is a city (1 X 1 ) km where jews 2% christians 15% and Muslims, lived together there were wars like crusaders affected this combination but on the long run it comes to be so
Muslims two times arranged treaties and kept the arrangements which based on free worship ,residence ,safety.
around this one square km stands the city walls which were build by turk inside them all are islamic buildings as well as christian quarter, and a jewish quarter.
out of this (old city) the city started to expand in all directions east west south and north and that was all muslim and christian noticing the combination jews were interested in the west but it was mixed with arabs till 1948 were arabs forced to leave the western side of the city and to evacuate very very few stayed within green line some villages were split into two sides both sides were arabs one side with israel the other later was with Jordanians in many cases only a fence highly guarded was separating between two sides and a tiny wall close to old city
by 1967 israel lifted up the fence and the walls but in fact they still two cities
israel is interested in purchasing in east Jerusalem what ever in what ever possible using all methods and i mean all especially when it comes to this one kilometer
just after the 1967 war israel win the war and no one could stop israel of demolishing what called "Maghreb quarters" in order to make a new jewish residence and to make the yard in front of the WALL a huge one ready to receive a hundred thousand or two or three to celebrate victory
so now which Jerusalem are we talking about
is it 1 km
is it the closest area one more kilometer each side to include mount of olives which is in the heart of christianity so so it comes to be 3X3 km or is it as israel planned in order to win some negotiations and to give up land according to some pressures which is originally ought to be PA land

I'll turn your question on its head and say that, the very reason that the world is not at peace is because people believe in fairy stories. Albeit different ones.

no no no, its the capital of israel and will always be.Ever since King David made Jerusalem the capital of Israel more than 3,000 years ago, the city has played a central role in Jewish existence. The Western Wall in the Old City — the last remaining wall of the ancient Jewish Temple, the holiest site in Judaism — is the object of Jewish veneration and the focus of Jewish prayer. Three times a day, for thousands of years, Jews have prayed "To Jerusalem, thy city, shall we return with joy," and have repeated the Psalmist's oath: "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning."

Jerusalem "has known only two periods of true greatness, and these have been separated by 2,000 years. Greatness has only happened under Jewish rule," Leon and Jill Uris wrote in Jerusalem. "This is so because the Jews have loved her the most, and have remained constant in that love throughout the centuries of their dispersion....It is the longest, deepest love affair in history."3

“For three thousand years, Jerusalem has been the center of Jewish hope and longing. No other city has played such a dominant role in the history, culture, religion and consciousness of a people as has Jerusalem in the life of Jewry and Judaism. Throughout centuries of exile, Jerusalem remained alive in the hearts of Jews everywhere as the focal point of Jewish history, the symbol of ancient glory, spiritual fulfillment and modern renewal. This heart and soul of the Jewish people engenders the thought that if you want one simple word to symbolize all of Jewish history, that word would be 'Jerusalem.'”
The seeming intractability of resolving the conflicting claims to Jerusalem has led some people to resurrect the idea of internationalizing the city. Ironically, the idea had little support during the 19 years Jordan controlled the Old City and barred Jews and Israeli Muslims from their holy sites.

The fact that Jerusalem is disputed, or that it is of importance to people other than Israeli Jews, does not mean the city belongs to others or should be ruled by some international regime. There is no precedent for such a setup. The closest thing to an international city was post-war Berlin when the four powers shared control of the city and that experiment proved to be a disaster.

Even if Israel were amenable to such an idea, what conceivable international group could be entrusted to protect the freedoms Israel already guarantees? Surely not the United Nations, which has shown no understanding of Israeli concerns since partition. Israel can count only on the support of the United States, and it is only in the UN Security Council that an American veto can protect Israel from political mischief by other nations

ED
Jerusalem was first the Jewish capital, many years before the christians and muslims came along. Jews do not ask for a piece of Rome or of Mecca. Now christians want to convert everyone and muslims want to kill everyone. My opinion, everyone stay on their own side. Come visit but then go back home.

what's an international city? jerusalem is international in the sense that lots of different people are there, and they have an international airport.

beyond that, no city on the planet has such a status. cities are part of countries. jerusalem is part of israel.

If they just practised loving their neighbours and enemies and accepting one another and being respectful I think that would be good enough. I'm sure the god that they all worship is the same one anyway.

Yes, imagine getting rid of all the falsehood religions.

If there is more than one religion, then why isnt religion seen for what it is. Maybe religion should just become a counciling session and no more.
