Yes, Yes, Yes, YES, YES, HELL YES!!!!
How can you say that killing is killing and that its just as bad if the government does it?
If somebody kills and rapes a two year old child
and the government kills the person who raped and killed a two year old child, how is that the same thing?
A killer needs to be punished and in my book that means an eye for an eye. |

SA has the highest murder rate in the WORLD. If there's one country in the world that needs the death penalty it's SA.
The sub-human murderers laugh their demonic laughs in the faces of those who proclaim "softer" punishment.
Meanwhile law abiding taxpayers pay to provide these animals (those few who are in prison) with a warm bed, 3 meals a day, hot showers, colour TV, etc. Keeping them alive to vote for their ANC conspirators in the next election.
Take a life, lose a life.
By the way, one of the answerers above who said 'no' also said in another answer to another question, that he's sharpening his panga to kill the white people... |

Well good luck with that my friend. We have it here in America but are to afraid to use it most of the time. I hope you get it back, and more importantly I hope the people are empowered to use it. |

YES YES YES!!! Too many innocent lives are being taken daily. These barbarians need to be gotten rid of instead of being given cushy lives in jail.
Failing that, I'd like to see correctional facilities privatised. Believe me - if I could run a prison, criminals would NOT get the lekker 5 Star holidays that they've become used to. Criminals DO NOT have the right to have rights!! |

Living currectly in a country that enforces the death penalty, I have seen just how quickly it restores belief in the law and how crime has gone down to practically non-existant.
Contrary to what people want to believe, that is is no deterrant, this country is living proof that is does work!
Bring back the death penalty! |

As a general rule, People need to be reminded that their actions beget reactions.
This is none so graphically illustrated than in the current criminal wave sweeping this country, in spite of official denials and cover-ups.
I believe that anybody who carries a "weapon" and purpetrates a robbery, highjacking, assault or trespass should be held liable for the maximum punishment.
This includes rape against male or female, young or old victims and all related terror-driven crimes against those rendered helpless by the weapon.
All attacks on officialdom, Police et al who are threatened, never mind wounded should be included in the "Violent Attack" catagory.
Attacking people in their homes or even trespassing "with a weapon and with intent" should carry the maximum penalty.
The maximum penalty should be applied because the attacker could have or would have killed the victim without provocation from their victim and without remorse or second thought.
The Maximu Penalty should be the "Death Penalty" |

What videos? Give us a link?
YES I definitely agree. It's not crime, it's war and I'm sick and tired of living in a prison just because of human rights which gives the murderers more rights than the victims! Now the prisons are overcrowded and we spend thousands of rands every year trying just to stay alive. Bring back the death penalty then the prisons would have enough space for the petty criminals - thieves etc.
PS: And rapists should be snipped - nothing deters a man as the thought of losing his crown jewels do. |

You already have it in the form of HIV/Aids but unfortunately it also targets the innocent. There is no doubt South Africa needs to bring back the Death penalty for 1st Degree murder.Of course it will not happen as the ANC would be killing their own and they will never have a referendum on it because they know there would be an overwhelming in favour outcome. By not reinstating it they can continue to pretend they support Human Rights whilst at the same time support the World's despots and criminal regimes. As long as Mbeki and his henchmen are safe and not affected by crime they will continue to turn a blind eye to the violence and tell you "crime is a perception" or if they are really cornered "it is the legacy of apartheid." |

I definately think that the death penalty should be brought back!! it would certainly deterr future murderers and other violent criminals from any abhorrant activities! Countries that have the death penalty have lower crime rates. I also think that normal citizens should have the right to own firearms in order to defend themselves!!Criminals would be less brazen if we were "allowed ' to defend ourselves when we were attacked!! Why are only criminals allowed free access to guns? |

Wow. tough Q. And obviously very controversial. good Job to Ayiza...very well put.
Even though I believe that the crime should fit the punishment and if anyone hurt someone I loved, I would want them to die or at least suffer for it. But inorder for such a harsh penalty to work, we need a stronger , more organised judicial system starting with SAP. They dont have the basic resources to catch criminals. Forensics, balistiks etc basic finger print analysis, do we have any of this in RSA, are our police trained enough and paid enough to care?
Sorry.. drifting from the point. all I have to say is this, we have to catch the criminal and then find someway to convict them (another problem we have in RSA). Once we have sorted this out then we can focus on appropriate punishment. |

The entirety of the African continent, Western Asia, and Eastern Europe needs a major political overhaul. There's an old word that describes these places, "badness". It's not a dictionary word but it describes the situation. There is just too much badness in the world. It's up to the people living there to straighten out their act.
Should the death penalty be used? By whom? In relation to which events? Look at Darfur. The Arabs are using death against the native population. It hasn't resolved anything. It's only added to the badness of the world.
What all of Africa needs is many strong, ethical leaders with integrity who look out for the best interest of society without giving preference to one group or another. It would be a long, hard road but that would solve their problems. |

Ja, feed them to the sharks or chuck them to the lions!!!!!!!! Or apply African Tribal Law (that way the PC Brigade shut up). I never used to be pro-death penalty but some of the filthy obscene and evil stuff I have seen in SA, well..... julle weet mos.
PS. Take a look at the mutti killing on www.stopboergenocide.com
An old friend of mine's best friend (female) from Pietermaritzburg was abducted and murdered for mutti.... I think that this is one crime which deserves the death penalty at least! |

I don't really know - there are more creative ways to punish the rapist of a 2 year old child - castration would be more fitting. the threat of taking away his manhood would certainly make most men think twice don't you think?
South Africa has such a percentage of its population that are so hardened to death - the value of life is diminished - that I don't think that the threat of death would deter anymore.
Also its one thing to have the law in place, even to pass sentence that condemns a man to death but who would actually have the courage to carry out the sentence?
So I am ambivalent - my first instinct is to say yes bring back the death penalty but then there are all these other factors to consider and anyway who's to say it would actually be a deterrent? |

NO....!
1. our system is corrupt, many innocent people go to jail...
2. police in South Africa are incompetent... |
|

?

No. Murder is murder, whether institutionalised or not. Ayiza is right, even the government must not be allowed to kill, otherwise you run two possible risks -
1) An honest human error could happen (look at the many wrong convictions and death sentences in US). How do you then correct the wrong conviction and execution of sentence when the truth comes out?
2) Given the way politicans behave, they might plant others and sentence them to death.
After all, there is no proof whatsoever that death sentence is a deterrence to crime! |

That is not fixing the problem, Thats like putting a bandage on a patient who has a stab wound with out checking if the is any internal organs damage.
Then how are you different from the criminal you are calling for a butchering of people.
Lets look for better ways of rehabilitating them look for the reasons why they are in the situation they find themselves.
If the death penalty work America would be the safest country on earth and you know very well it's not.
The constitution says we all have a right to life if we bring the death penalty back we take that right away, we give the government the right to take life and that would be a very big mistake.
Let us just make killing wrong for everyone including the government.
Do not look for quick fix methods.
It's an illusion, its like "beating", "spanking", what ever you want to call it, your children to teach them discipline.
What it does is it tell's them that by using violence you can solve your problems and then everyone is shocked at the violent crime/ road rage we have in SA. |

No, who died and made you King? I mean, who suffered that you might have a chance at eternal life? I mean whomsoever is without sin shall toss the first stone? Blah blah blah.
Simply put, killing is for the fearful and the flumoxed ... to assert that lives matter by destruction thereof.
However, if lives matter, with hard and long work, they may be converted, rehabilitated, salvaged, twisted into shape.
Let the dead bury dead, this world is now for the living relatives ... and justice.
Will "human garbage...never change"? Ask Botha and deKlerk. No killing but ... banishment, there is a humane notion. Give it a try. |
