The big oil companies and Opec can't control the price of oil, even though OPEC really, really wants to. Oil prices are set by supply and demand in a global market, and the United States is the world's largest net oil importer.
Many people think OPEC controls oil prices, however, for at least three reasons:
OPEC certainly acts like it sets the price of oil. It holds meetings and issues press releases and sets "quotas" for its members.
Oil prices often go on bumping up and down like OPEC never existed.
It's obvious that the world's biggest oil producers can increase price by curtailing production.
Here's the catch: Any producer big enough to manipulate the market by slashing production can't benefit from the resulting higher price.
And any producer big enough to crash prices by increasing production will suffer from doing so.
People assume that if OPEC didn't exist, all major producers would open the spigot and produce oil at the maximum possible rate, which makes no sense whatever.
Oil producers behave exactly like producers in any other industry. When inventories are low and prices are high, they produce more. When inventories are high and prices are low, they produce less.
Nobody needs OPEC to tell them to do that.
In view of the above, you should rather consider invading the real culprit, Uncle SAM. |

are you trying to start World War III? |
|

Keelo Lulu
|
Why? It's not their fault.
The US is the biggest consumer of oil.
And why does it have to be war and violence to resolve problems?
Why can't we people see what WE can do to help current problems and not blame others. |

We invaded Iraq and got $4.00 a gallon. Why don't we invaid Saudi Arabia, maybe we can get $6.00.
We need to drill more. Oil spills? Hurricane Katrina smashed a lot of wells and refineries and we never leaked a drop. This is a global problem, tied in with the american dollar. |

Saudi Arabia are actually very worried about this problem. Oil is the only thing they have to offer the world and it's where their money comes from.
The last thing they want is for the price to keep going up because it's forcing people to look for alternatives.
If you took an interest in the news this week you would have seen they are going to ramp up production to keep the price stable. |

If we supported a fascist nation as opposed to a democratic republic then I would say your question has some merit.
But as a Marine veteran who has seen war I am surprised at how casually you ask this question. What has this nation come to with people thinking like this?
No, we don't invade Saudi Arabia. |

Nope
I can afford that.. |
|

Robbie

Definitely not. Wars for oil have proven pretty imbecilic and have exposed our corruption/addiction/ineptness.
Plus they're ridiculously expensive. And let's not forget WAR requires more oil than any other activity, even the entire USA getting to and from work every day.
Better to put that money toward getting ourselves a more diversified energy portfolio, and keeping our boys here in the states, and putting them to work rebuilding our infrastructure (levees, schools, bridges, roads, power plants...) |

if its $200 im buying a bike |

No you should shove ur laptop up ur asses you freaks, we should cutt off your oil supply and see you grovel |
|

Zach
|
No. It's not our area to be. I think we need to find other sources of energy. If they feel they need to rise the price, its their choice. I'm kind of happy that the gas prices are higher... we need less pollution and i think with such prices, less people are driving! WOOT! |

Do you want to know why the oil is gonna reach 200 $ ? it's simple:
Retarded president + Weak dollar = High oil prices.
Add to them 2 wars and one potential third war with Iran = 200 $ a barrel.
So instead of starting a fourth war you should clean up your presidents crap. |

Why Saudi Arabia. I say we should invade Canada..that is where most of our oil comes from. |

Think well before endavouring on such an Idea. Such weired thinking has put world in a quandry and the invading country in very poor light. |

Why are people saying people like you start wars?
Unless your last name is Bush, we shouldn't be too concerned with your Yahoo Question.
They should be saying, People like you should continue mopping the bathrooms in the McDonalds and stop trying to think so hard.
With that said, what we should do is stop depending on finite fuels, invest in green energy/alternative fuels and become independent from other countries Oil. Start doing your part to deter the cost of fuel from rising. If we stop importing, we stop paying 4 dollars a gallon at the gas pump.
As for those who say the Middle East is harboring terrorist, if you feel that way then invest in a flex fuel or hybrid car and stop buying gas that is ultimately making these "Evil" countries richer while we continue to economically recede.
Another War will only increase our national debt, continue to cripple our image internationally, and then you'll come back asking why The Government is taxing you so much and why does the world hate us so much. |

believe me after Iraq war American army couldn't invade a cage of rabbits.
the legend of American military force is vanished from all world's mind.
Iran now can destroy all the American navy in the gulf :) |

First of all, remember that the dollar is going down because of Bush's smart policies. So a lot of the increase is actually dollar value going down.
Two the day traders that raise the price of oil are people like Goldman Sachs, not ARAMCO.
Three : America cant invade Iran now, let alone Saudi Arabia, because other than many factors I dont want to get into it would totally destroy the economy, or whats left of it that Obama needs to fix. |
|

Drunken Lemmi ;) Winks

No, we should just drill for our own oil. Invade the environmentalists who are preventing us from doing so. Then our oil would be much cheaper and wouldn't have to be in war so that our soldiers could come home.
Or perhaps, the government should stop taxing the **** out of the oil. They say it's out of their control, but it's all up to them! |

......hahaha.....are you threatening? its funny though......waging a war is not a fad or trend nowadays unlike older times that the battles were face to face to resolve issues like these.....lolz.....those were times its barbaric......
.....nowadays, its different, everybody involved meet together in a convention or conference to resolve issues and not waging wars.......
......Saudi Arabia should present the reasons for the price increase per barrel and that will be studied if its reason are justifiable or not.....if not, they should not overprice the oil and should follow that as a member of World Trade Organizations......lets be real people here and not being idiots!......lolz |
