well, it seems the ones above me said what im gonna say, BUT if that wallet contained a BILLION dollars cheque with no name in it, then im sorry to say, GREED will eat me LOL
but, if its any kind of wallet with no BILLION dollars, then i will try to find some contact details of the owner, but in lebanon, i would never send it to a police station, i just don't trust them |

Just like Kumara, this has actually happened to me before (not in the street, but in a department store).
when I think about it now, I think that I didn't do the right thing because I took the wallet straight to the cashier (who could have kept it), I know she didn't because they took my details and the owner of the wallet called to thank me afterwards. |

check for identification and call the owner .. if it didn't have any I'll take it to the Police or post notes around the place where I found it ... |

It's happened me twice in recent years ...
The first time I took it to the nearest Police Station & it turned out to belong to a teenage girl ...she left a message on my cell phone a couple of days later & was so grateful.
The last time it was bulging with the folding stuff ! I didn't even open it ...took it to a Police Beat & handed it in as I would hope anyone else would if they found mine !
For anyone who would consider keeping it please just think how you would feel if it was yours ! |

Is there identification with the wallet? If so, I'd give every last cent back to the person. There's no guarantee turning it into the police would get all the money back to the person! If there's not, well.. what can I do? Hold it up and ask if anybody lost a ton of money? At that point, I'd probably take it and give it to charity.
That's coming from a New Yorker. Not all of us want to take your money. :-) |

Like others have said, i would do everything to leave the wallet in tack and return it to it's owner because it is what i would hope they would do with mine.
Last year my husband lost his wallet while we were away on holidays. We cancelled all cards and applied for new ones. Then a few days after we returned home, a package arrived in the mail. It was his wallet with everything still in it. We were so grateful and sent the kind man some coffee vouchers. |

I'll not take it coz there might be a curse or what does not belong to you will not be... in some other ways, you'll lose that amt someday.
Will try to locate the wallet's owner & give back to owner with what was in it . Or bring it to the police station.
Honesty is the best policy... in life |

It has actually happened to me. I would do what I did before...look to see if there was any was to identify the owner and return the wallet (in the first instance, there was not)...if there was not, then I would turn it into the nearest police department.
I couldn't keep something like that. |

I would turn it in to police. Whether I am honest or not is one thing, but I don't want to risk going to jail.
I would turn it in, especially if there's an I.D.
I make it a habit of leaving stuff on the ground that I come across. I always feel like the owner is nearby, watching to see what lowlife will pick it up.
I used to move lawns with my parents. We had to mow the grass of an apartment in the slum. I saw a $20 on the ground and left it there, thinking that whoever lost it needs it more than me. A few seconds later a man was "going to the bathroom" on the side of a dumpster across the street. I then noticed that the $20 was gone.
I would leave it or turn it in. Nah... I would probably leave it. (I'm being honest)
Ever watch one of them movies about a person picking up a random purse or briefcase with some political document or videotape in it, and going through all heck because of it? That's why I leave stuff where it is. Too much potential of trouble, and that includes cash or a wallet. |

i would take the wallett to the police station or i would check the purse for details and id cards and if i find anything which can identify the owner of the wallett then i would call him to come and take his wallett because i have found it |

I would try to find out who the money belonged to, because it certainly wouldn't be mine. I would go to the nearest store, or other large public building, and inquire if someone lost anything. Also, I would NOT take it to the police station, because I have heard "horror stories" about them keeping what was found. Thus, I would say that if someone could describe what they had lost, then I would give it to them. I would leave my phone number with a man's name and ask for anyone to call who had lost something. This way, I wouldn't have an onslaught of too many men just calling a woman. Also, the person who would call should be able to tell me what they had lost. This has happened successfully before. People must realize that GOD is watching us all. |

It happened once to me before. And It was not a wallet it was worst. I was at the ATM machine waiting for the car before me to finish, when I arrived to the window I tried to entered my card, it didnt let me, so I look at the screen and found that the screen still showing the account of the person before me. She left her card in and the account was open for me to withdraw any amount I wish. I clicked cancel, and removed the card. Then called the ban to report a lost card for that lady. Trust me her account balance was over 10K. |

O hard choice, I think I would give it to who it belonged to. I don't think i would take anything out of it. That is the right decisions and God would bless me for that. ya |

I would try to return it to its rightful owner. And that IS me being honest. If there was no way to find out who it belonged to, I would take it to the police station because I would want that done for me. |

I'd turn it in because I'd be worried about who owns that money and if they really need it. I lost my wallet once, so I know how bad that can be. |

Look for identification and call that person and give it back to them.

It depends, Right now im working trying to raise money for Darfur, if it was in the middle of no where and would most likely not be found, I'm sure the person wouldn't mind saving a few lives in a country that really needs it |

Give it to the local Police Station, and report it found.
Or take the money and give it to charity. Either one. |
