South Africans who are out of the country, do you have places to buy South African food?

I just discovered this great online store over here - The African Hut - I'm going to order all the stuff I haven't had in years - boerewors, biltong. droewors, Horlicks, Castle Lager (can't wait) and other stuff I haven't had for a while.
Are there other such places worldwide?

Gunner2za - how is it bigoted to eat boerwors? You're not very bright, are you?

What's up with gunner2za? You posted a pretty descent question!

I took a look at the African Hut site and am very thankful for the link you provided. I'm gonna wait for you to get your stuff first and then put in an order. Hahahaha! Wanna see if it's really as good as it looks. Please e-mail me when you've received the things you ordered. I'm not sure how it will work getting some of the stuff to Korea with their strict immigration policies and regulations on foods and all.

There isn't any South African Store in Korea, but I do find some similar goods and foods here. I got something that looks and tastes exactly like boerewors from WalMart. It was from some European country. I can also buy Ceres juice and Rooibos Tea at Costco. South African wines are all over the place and can be found at HomePlus and E-Mart. The one thing I can't find in Korea is the menthol nasal stick for a blocked nose. I love that thing! Hehehehe! The African Hut also doesn't have anything similar. Neither do the pharmacies here.

I'll be in SA in January and will bring lots of stuff over, but there's just so much one can bring. And there's always something you forget. The first time I came over I was almost arrested for having deodorant in one of my bags. And roll-on is very expensive here as well.

Lemme know if it was worth it and I'll try it. Thanks again!

This is quite a surprise...... umm... well i havent left south africa.. so i wouldn't really know... but a very interesting question from you i must add... good to see that somewhere deep down you still mis good o'l suid afrika... anyways.. cheers cheers

I found the St Marcus stores pretty good in the UK, but than also found them to be a bit pricey, nothing like a Braai and a cold Castle and watching Cricket/Rugby.
I need to look at the Hut.

How about tanning vleis this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hiya Brad,
Here in London us Saffers are lucky, there are many SA shops that sell all our favourite treats (at double the price unfortuneately, but hey, at least it's there.)
Thanks for the website though, I will save it to favourites, and if I'm ever stuck somewhere without a SA shop, with a craving for biltong, I'll know where to look.

No chance of that where i am at the moment, only American and English goodies in Shanghai or Beijing .

Hie Brad, I think today is cease fire. Well there is a good one in Walsall and London, Afrikaner and Hakuna Matata respectively . those two are good because most South Africans recommend them a lot . I have dinned at Afrikaner so I can second that one .

Anyway what happened to the other Question? Was it removed . I delayed saving it on my files . Anyway I think you will make a good case study on my final project . You know the option already . " Identity crisis " .

When Are you breaking the truce!!

DUDE MAKE UP YOUR MIND........YOU EITHER LIKE SOUTH AFRICA AND WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER OR DESPISE IT FOR ALL ITS PROBLEMS.....DECIDE!!!!!

**Peaches**
There are lots of SA food shops on line ... African Enterprises are who I use and they are the best so far ....

Not much in Taiwan. Anything non-Chinese is grouped together under "Western", which in Taiwan means American. There is a new website where one can order SA food in Taiwan: www.webspar.com.tw . Very limited at the moment but with good support its range will grow. There are also a few people here making b-wors. I miss good meat pies (not available since it's not American).

It's very easy (although expensive) to get SA food in SE England. There are several places in and around London that sell all the products you mention. My wife also likes Reds - but a small can is around £2. Can also buy Mrs Balls chutney for around £2 per jar in limited flavours in supermarkets. You can sometimes buy Castle lager imported from SA in Asda - 3 660ml bottles for only £4. Some local UK butchers can supply the SA dried meat products. Also don't forget eBay for Biltong if you get homesick!

Brad i have no idea. I can say this that if i left south africa my family would have to send me parcels every month. I would need my "Mrs Balls" not talking about the biltong and all the others you mentioned. A lekker steak on the braai on a Sunday with the Castle Lager and the white wines. Ok i am going out now to start the fire. The weather is perfect.

If you're in England, ther's a great shop in Southampton called Charles Baynham. He sells all SA stuff. In Brighton there is Suzman's.
Online you can go to bokkefoods.co.uk

Hi Brad,

I told you there is some good in you.... thanks for the fun question.

Don’t mind that other lunatic, we South Africans do not mind if you get homesick.

I must say, I can do with a nice cold (ice cold that is) Castle Lager, sitting on the beach with some biltong and boerewors, and for fun, a hubly bubbly or a magnum icecream, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!! But I have to work and I'm six hours away from the blue blue ocean!!!!!

But then again, I CAN BUY IT FROM A SHOP AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!! (Wê-la-ka-pê-la) Mmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!

O, and the name The African Hut, make me think of Nuts, aan wat laat dit jou dink????? (Toemaar, ek noem u nie meer daardie heerlike peuselhappie nie!) LOL

Lekker bly!!!

Ja daar is !!! There are South Africans who run the shops themselves, Eg In New Zealand there are a couple of South African shops. one called INSIDE AFRICA. And I am a South African myself

Speaking of boerewors and biltong really makes my mouth water!
Where we are in Brazil I've only found S.A. wines.

Auckland - New Zealnd here, and it is full of South African shops. Sydney Australia too. And you stay on the southern hemisphere.

In Vancouve, Canada we have two South African stores that sell quite a lot of stuff. They get a container of canned, and other non-perishables every two months but make the biltong fresh here. The name is SA Sausages (google it if you need it). There is another two stores run by Canadians but lack the heart and soul that you get when you go to SA Sausages. Some of the supermarket chains carry stuff like, Marmit, fishpaste, Ceres juice, tinned asparagus and the large government owned liqour stores carry Castle beer..which by the way goes extremely well with Sushi.. Of course I support SA by only buying SA wine...

I say to all south africans(i really am one myself though) if you want to go live in another country you should be prepared to make the sacrfices and find your needs elsewhere and be adaptive. If you not adaptive you shouldnt be living in someone elses country.

please tell me something.....................when you ran away from SA and it wasnt good enough for you.................you then adopted another country as your home.................why the hell do you still want South African goods....................is it not double standards and bigotry on your part................just asking

Brad if that is your best answer then obviously i hit the spot and YOU KNOW WHAT I SAID IS TRUE
