The Book of the Dead and the Book of Gates are the two main funerary directives and the term "book" is somewhat misleading as they were never produced in actual book form. These are a collection of spells,directions and invocations to assist the deceased in making the journey into the Afterlife.
The Book of the Dead is thought to have evolved from the pyramid texts and was popular in the Middle Kingdom and was sometimes referred to As the Coming Forth By Day in reference to the thought that the journey to the nether world took place during the 12 hours of night..
They were often written of the actual mummy wrappings and can also be found adorning the walls of tombs in The Valley of the Kings, The Valley of the Queens and tombs of the Nobles.
The Book of Gates became popular inclusion in burials during the New Kingdom and can be found in most of the significant tombs of the time.

Im Egyptian and my ancestors were Egyptian so i should know this...
im pretty sure it was"The Book of the Dead"that was buried with them.
They were to help the dead find their afterlife.

Depends in what era you are talking about.
But they never make real books that is just a term used to describes a lot of spells and prayers that would help the person in the journey through Amduat to the Afterworld.
There were several terms used to describe these works,The Book of the Dead,The Book of the Gates and The Coming Forth by Day.
As the ancient Egyptians used tombs to place the mummified remains of the daed in, the term "buried" is not quite correct.
