I admit they look good and all but certainly uncomfortable, I hate formal clothing and I feel confined with all the Protocols..
being an organizer of some conference I'm compelled to wear them every often but I never liked them..

I think it would depend on the occasion. I am in the 20's category and men my age don't really want to wear ties. I don't understand that. I don't like the sloppy look. If the occasion calls for it you should wear a TIE. I don't know about bow ties.

I love wearing ties; especially at work.

However, when the day's done and it's now time to party, I either remove my tie and let loose a button or two. Or I stick with my tie and, instead, fold my sleeves up to my elbows.

I AM NOT OVER 60, but if I am going to a function(wedding etc) I would wear a suit and a tie, if I were to go to dinner I would wear black or whit tie, if I went for a job interview I would wear smart casual and a tie, if I am out for a pint with the lads I would not. When I say tie this also mean a Dicky bow,
also at leisure I could wear a cravat
