dont worry they dont kill anybody like the IDIOT up there is saying. it will be offensive becuase women on the beach by law should always have their "restricted" areas coverd ;) which means you should always have at least a 2 peice swiming suit on. i know that in miami and florida topless tanning is allowed but becuase egypt is more reliugous they dont allow such stuff. hope you have a good trip and if you have ANY questions email me. |

I spent much time in Sharm. It is very hot in June. bring lots of sun lotions with you. You can go topless on some beaches in Sharm with out offending anyone. All you need is to call me when you arrive to come and watch. By the way, they do not allow cups below c and d to go topless. lol
Have a nice trip. |

Of course you are going to offend someone. Egypt is a Muslim country and while more moderate that some it has Wahhabi funded schools and a significant proportion of the population would like to see Islamic law imposed. A good 20% or so of the population would like to see horrific punishments to women not in a burkkas, those out without a male family member, bans of women driving cars, floggings for those drinking, etc.
Many tourist places do not enforce local laws or customs on drinking, covering up, women driving, or topless sun-bathing. Sharm el-Sheikh has modern resorts and some of the beaches are private. Those working there likely don't care because they are being well paid and because the hotels wouldn't hire anything who cares to much (or says anything about it). You will likely notice armed security guards and/or police at most tourist spots.
As to whether you should care or not to offend people...the State Department routinely puts out travel advisories and Egypt occationally gets them. Terrorists have bombed hotels on the Sinai, kidnapped aid workers, killed UN peacekeepers, etc. You are already taking some form of risk just being there. I doubt topless bathing is going to put you are any more risk than just being there, not being veiled, drinking, not having a male family member escort, etc.
However, have not doubt that a significant portion of Egypt is likely offended by many things a lot less 'liberal' than topless sunbathing. |
