I'll go with "Kringe in die Bos" by Dalene Mathee.
And since JRR Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, I'm gonna claim the "Lord of the Rings" as well :-)

I did enjoy the Kombuis "Diary of God"
There are so many good SA books even though I am limited to reading English. Now I am reading Andre Brink's 'Praying Mantis' and enjoying it very much.

I'd rather go with Fiela se Kind, by Dalene Mathee.

But my absolute favourite is "Vlerkdans" by (I think) Paul Brink.

Fiela se kind - Dalene Mathee and a book we read when I was in school called Gezina en die Bruin Wind (can't remember the author though). And of course who can forget the Kook en Geniet (like doesn't every Afrikaans household have one?).
