Like the Americans, the Israelis refer to this as collateral damage. It`s a pile of crap though. Israelis and Americans shoot damn near anyone they please. In Iraq the Americans even have a `department`which decides how much to pay the family if they shoot the one who brings home the bacon`.

One reported situation was of a fisherman out on the river fishing and some soldier shot him dead. The family, now destitute, complained. The military paid the family a ridiculously small sum and refused to pay for or replace the boat that floated away downstream.

Typical.

At any rate she was killed unecessarily helping the Palestinian cause. She, nor the Palestinians are, in fact, terrorists. Isn`t it odd how the Palestinians in this horrid war are always wrong. They need to sneak in weapons because, unlike Israel, who is appropriating Palestinian territory gets their vile weapons shipped in easily from the American arms manufacturers whose lobby works to continue this pathetic `war`.

Remember, the Israelis have had 29 UN resolutions brought up against them only to be vetoed by the arms lobbied USA!

SHE WAS NOT A TERRORIST, BUT PROTESTING THE EXCESSIVE BRUTALITY OF THE ISRAELIS.
This conclusion about Israelis` `disproportional force` was reached by the UN also. But when put in a resolution against Israel it was vetoed. Disproportion foece is a war crime.

I am a Cherokee Indian and for one understand to many degrees what both sides are thinking and going through.

Being a peace activist means exactly that PEACEFUL this group has shown itself with pictures of her receiving an award from Yasser Arafat.

None of the names the user who insults others illegaly are PACIFICTS! A true pacifist is some one like GHANDI. I would not stand in front of a tank or bulldozer about to run my home over alone anyways and for every link you show I have looked at them all half are for her and half against her and the ones for her are all Palestian supporters and the other Israel supporters.. ONLY CNN was neutral stating they might be terrorists.

Sure it is horrible for children and innocent people to die, my people were masacred on the Trail of tears.

We as common folk will never know all the truth until we are much older or at all and then our kids kids will know. Only those in charge know the whole truth and that is that.. I do not believe any innocent people should ever die but if you are going to live in a war zone and your innocent and not in the war why not move before the violence reaches you common logic. She killed herself by not leaving and allowing it to run over her its not like they are fast and can chase you down! She had to want to be run over then and the Arabs are trying to use this and the other british guy who was also a known terrorist to help their cause and it is not helping.

It is a case of now two people who should never have been there to begin with. UNLESS you live there you cannot fathom what either side goes through simple as that. All you can do is hope the dying stops.

On March 16 2003, Rachel Corrie, as part of her activities with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), had gone to Rafah on the Egypt-Gaza border to prevent IDF demolitions of arms smuggling tunnels.

ISM activists had repeatedly interfered with these operations, standing in front of the bulldozers and then leaping out of harm’s way. In this case, the IDF was bulldozing shrubbery that camouflaged the tunnels. Rachel apparently thought she was protecting the nearby home of a Palestinian pharmacist. She knelt in front of the bulldozer behind a pile of dirt.

The ISM claimed the bulldozer intentionally ran her over and killed her. After extensive investigation, the IDF concluded that the driver could not see her and that her death was an unfortunate accident.

The IDF Judge Advocate’s Office concluded: ā€œThe driver at no point saw or heard Corrie. She was standing behind debris which obstructed the view of the driver and the driver had a very limited field of vision due to the protective cage he was working in.ā€

******An autopsy revealed that the bulldozer never rolled over Corrie: she was killed when debris dislodged by the bulldozer struck her head.

The ISM claim was based on two photos it released: one of Rachel standing in a bright orange flak jacket, a bull horn in her hand, with a bulldozer only yards away; the second of the fallen Rachel, the bulldozer just behind her. ISM claimed these photos were taken within minutes of each other.

***********However, it quickly became apparent that the photos had not been taken sequentially, but probably hours apart. The first photo showed a morning sky; the second photo showed an afternoon sky.

The bulldozer in the first picture was not the same one shown in the second picture. The first picture did not fit initial eyewitness reports that Rachel did not have a bullhorn in her hand at the time of the accident nor did it show the mound of earth repeatedly described. ISM bystanders said no photographers were present before the accident occurred.

The IDF concluded that Rachel was sitting on a mound of dirt and could not be seen by the driver. When he continued his operations, she could have rolled away but instead tried to climb to the top of the mound but the digging drew her downward, causing the accident. Later autopsy reports revealed that the cause of death was blows to the head, probably from the heavy debris dislodged by the bulldozer.

--------------------------------------...
FRONTPAGE magazine investigated:

do the doctors at the Arab hospital where she was taken still alive after the accident bear any responsibility? What about the ISM that organizes protests in a closed military zone and encourages its members to play cat and mouse among the tanks and bulldozers? Or the Arabs who invite the "internationals" to risk their lives in a war zone? How she died, exactly where she passed her last moments and who should take the blame for Rachel Corrie's death are questions that demand answers.

The inconsistencies in eyewitness testimony raise doubts about the simplistic conclusions drawn ever since the event.

By all accounts, Rachel Corrie was one of a group of protesters attempting to disrupt the work of two IDF bulldozers leveling ground to detonate explosives in an area rife with terrorist activity. The bulldozers moved to a different area to avoid the protesters, and Corrie became separated from the group. Some of the agitators stood with a banner, while Corrie picked up a bullhorn and yelled slogans at the driver encased in the small cabin of the dozer. This went on for several hours on the afternoon of March 16. It's the kind of activity favored by the young pro-Palestinian types who make up the ISM.

There wasn't enough action for Corrie. According to fellow Evergreen State College student, Joseph Smith, 21, who was at the site, Corrie dropped her bullhorn and sat down in front of one of the bulldozers. She fully expected that the driver would stop just in front of her. "We were horribly surprised," Smith told me by phone from Rafah the day after the incident. "They had been careful not to hurt us. They'd always stopped before," he said.

As the dozer plowed forward heaping up a pile of dirt and sand, Corrie scrambled up the pile to sit on the top. Smith says she lost her footing as the bulldozer made the earth move beneath her feet. She got pulled down, he says. "The driver lost sight of her and continued forward. Then, without lifting the blade he reversed and Rachel was underneath the mid-section of the dozer, she wasn't run over by the tread."

Capt. Jacob Dellal of the IDF spokespersons office confirms what Smith says about the driver: he lost sight of Rachel. Inside the cab, some six feet off the ground, visibility is very restricted. The protesters should have known that and kept within the driver's line of sight to avoid getting hurt, Dellal asserts.

The strange thing about this part of the story is the discrepancy over the photos given to the press and posted on several pro-Arab websites.

As Smith describes to me his version of events, I ask about the series of photos printed in an Arab newspaper I picked up the morning after the incident, in Jerusalem's Old City. "They aren't of the actual incident," he states firmly. "We'd been there for three hours already, we were tired, we already had a lot of pictures."

Yet these are the pictures used on the ISM website to document the before and after of Rachel's interaction with the bulldozer. The same pictures are featured as a photo-essay on the site of Electronic Intifada, where they're even attributed to Joseph Smith.

There are several shots of the back of a woman with a blond ponytail facing a bulldozer. She's standing in an open field, wearing an orange fluorescent jacket, holding a megaphone.

Even Michael Shaik, the ISM media coordinator at the time, wouldn't confirm that these are pictures of Corrie taken the day she died. "I'm fairly sure they're of the incident," he tells me by phone from his Bethlehem office. In the same conversation, Shaik asks me not to contact Joe, Greg or Tom, the Rafah ISM eyewitnesses again directly: "They're still in trauma."

The pictures should have raised all kinds of questions to photo editors, but all the major newspapers and wire services chose to run the photos regardless. If there are pictures of Rachel before and after, why didn't the same photographer consider it important to document the act of the bulldozer running her down?

Where is the mound of earth Rachel clambered up and was buried in? The woman shown lying bleeding from her nose and mouth is lying on a flat piece of ground.

So, Corrie was either knocked down by the dozer, or fell in front of it. ISMers assume that she was intentionally run over, but there's no proof that was the driver's intent.

The real issue is, was Rachel alive when she was taken by Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance to Martyr Mohammed Yousef An Najar Hospital? In other words, where did she die? Were adequate efforts made to save her in the hospital?

Again, there are conflicting stories. Joseph Smith tells me in a telephone interview the day after the tragedy, "She died in the hospital or on the way to the hospital." CNN also reported that Rachel died there. (Israeli bulldozer runs over 23-year-old woman. CNN, Monday, March 17, 2003)

In his account posted on www.arabia.com, ISMer Tom Dale has a slightly different story. On March 17 he writes: "I ran for an ambulance, she was gasping and her face was covered in blood from a gash cutting her face from lip to cheek. She was showing signs of brain hemorrhaging. She died in the ambulance a few minutes later of massive internal injuries."

But Dr. Ali Mussa, director of Martyr Mohammed Yousef An Najar Hospital where Corrie was taken, seems confused. On the day of the event, Dr. Mussa tells AP Gaza reporter Ibrahim Barzak that Rachel died in the hospital. (American Killed in Gaza. AP. March 16, 2003)

One week later, in a telephone interview, Dr. Mussa states definitively to me that Rachel died at the scene, "in the soil," as he puts it. The main cause of death was suffocation, Mussa asserts. There were no signs of life, no heartbeat or pulse when she arrived at the hospital, he says. Mussa states that Rachel's ribs were fractured, a fact determined by X-rays.

Doesn't quite jive with the photo essay on the pages of the Electronic Intifada website for March 16, 2003. (Photo story: Israeli bulldozer driver murders American peace activist by Nigel Parry and Arjan El Fassed, The Electronic Intifada, 16 March 2003.)

A caption under one photo of doctors leaning over a female patient reads: Rachel arrived in the Emergency Room at 5:05 p.m and doctors scrambled to save her. By 5:20 p.m, she was gone. Ha'aretz newspaper reported that Dr. Ali Mussa, a doctor at Al Najar, stated that the cause of death was skull and chest fractures. Dr. Mussa told me he was one of the treating physicians, yet he alone maintains that Rachel was dead before she was put into the ambulance.

To further complicate matters, on that same website, a report from the Palestine Monitor is cited. Here, the writer says that Rachel fractured her arms, legs and skull. She was transferred to hospital, where she later died, says this report.

Just who is Dr. Ali Mussa? Clearly a man in favor with the Palestine Authority hierarchy. Dr. Mussa's views are aired on the official website of the PA's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation: (January 27, 2003)

A few days after the incident, ISM Media Coordinator Shaik tells me by phone from Rafah that three ISMers, Tom, Alice and Greg were in the ambulance with R

Liberalist ISM and the Islamic extremists LOVE to set people up, that is why they did it. These people not only "ally up" in Israel they have allied up in our own nations, slowly chipping away at what we have left of our countries to make way for Islam.

It gives them good publicity especially when there is a photographer around if they can martyr someone and gain public sympathy for it. Some people just believe anything they see/hear and the extremists count on that. But other than that I have 5 years experience being around a bulldozer and I can personally tell you that I would NOT stand in front of that thing. They move quickly, loudly, and very dangerously. It is my personal responsibility that I am no where near it when it is being operated and I'm in contact with the driver if I have to cross the path.

Here is a good overview of what happened:
http://www.geocities.com/Rachav/Rachel_Corrie_Propaganda.html

And here are Islamic extremists being given "pep talk" to martyr themselves, with one of them martyring themselves and blaming Israel. Their society is quite ill and they have a liberal "cult" following from the Western countries.

"Sheikh Nizar Rayan, who was killed in Gaza along with his wives and his nine children, preferred to remain in his home, even though he knew it would be bombed.

Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 – March 16, 2003) was an Christain American member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), whom work on peace, who traveled to the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada to protest the brutality of the Israelis in using weaponized bulldozers to steal and destroy innocent Palesinian lives and property. She was killed by a bulldozer operated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during a protest against the destruction of Palestinian homes by the IDF in the Gaza Strip. The driver was a Russian Jew. By most accounts he saw her-he denies this. He scooped up a mound of dirt with her on top of it. She was wearing a flourescent orange blazer and witnesses said she was waving her arms looking directly in the cockpit. Other protesters both waving arms and using a bull horn told the driver to stop. He apparently ignored this, jerked forward and she lost her footing as he dropped the load, buring most of her alive. He then backed up and ran over the mound of dirt again. He killed her. Despite witnesses, including Jewish soldiers, the Israelis chose to deem it an unfortunate accident of illegal protesters, despite earlier measures to prevent this from happening to the same group the previous day in the same area.SHE WAS NOT A TERRORIST, BUT PROTESTING THE EXCESSIVE BRUTALITY OF THE ISRAELIS. Why do they almost always put the blame on innocent civilians for their deaths? My grievances to her family. She just passed her 24th birthday about a month and a half before this unfortunate death, an innocent working for peace, trying to stop the brutality. The world lost a kind soul, heaven gained an angel.May she rest in Peace.

EDIT: I was an Autopsy assistant for 9 years. Here is what her autopsy report read:

"An autopsy was conducted on March 24 at the Israel's National Center of Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv(NOTE: IN ISRAEL). The final report was not released publicly, but in their report on the matter Human Rights Watch asserts a copy was provided to them by Craig Corrie, with a translation supplied by the U.S. Department of State. In the report they quote Professor Yehuda Hiss(NOTE: HE IS A JEWISH DOCTOR IN TEL AVIV), who performed the autopsy, as concluding that "her death was caused by pressure on the chest (mechanical asphyxiation) with fractures of the ribs and vertebrae of the dorsal spinal column and scapulas, and tear wounds in the right lung with hemorrhaging of the pleural cavities."

CONCLUSION(mine): This is NOT consistent with debris falling on her, but a mound of debris on her as the tank rolled over her.She would have been killed almost instantly. She was rushed to the hospital and attempts were made to revive her, but she was already gone. Death is usually noted at the time life saving procedures are deemed no longer effective and ceased. The injuries are the result of crushing injuries, especially the spinal damage, NOT debris falling on her-"pressure on the chest (mechanical asphyxiation) with fractures of the ribs and vertebrae of the dorsal spinal column and scapulas, and tear wounds in the right lung with hemorrhaging of the pleural cavities." Being buried alive, she, would have suffocated. The above damage requires a very large amount of pressure on the chest and is due to compressive forces, not falling debris-bottom line-she was killed by a tank running over debris on top of her, a very horrible, most likely, quick, painful death.

To those whom call her and the family she stayed with, terrorists, are some incites-She could easily have been Ann Frank in another era-she could have been yor sister, daughter, mother, girlfriend:

http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article1248.shtml

http://www.utne.com/2003-03-01/RachelCorrieInHerOwnWords.aspx?page=4

Those whom call her terrorist are those who wish to kill anyone or anything for seeing the truth.

STRANGE HOW QUICK PEOLES THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE "HOLOCAUST" CAN BE SO QUICK TO CALL AN INNOCENT PERSON BURIED ALIVE, A TERRORIST.BY ALL WITNESS ACCOUNTS, THAT DRIVER SAW HER AND IT WAS A HATRED CRIME-HE MURDERED HER-RAN HER OVER NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE-FORWARD AND BACKWARD.

FACTS-NO PROOF OF TERRORIST OR TERORISTIC ACTIVITIES WAS EVEN BROUGHT UP IN THE ISRAELI'S OWN INVESTIGATION. AS USUAL, EVERY MURDER OF CIVILIANS ARE LABELED THEIR FAULT-THEY JUST HAPPEN TO BE IN THE WAY OF CLUSTER AND PHOSPHOROUS BOMBS AND TANKS, THE CHILD KILLED WHILE SCREAMING IN TERROR AS THE ISRAELI SOLDIERS RITTLED HIM WITH BULLETS, KILLING HIM, WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME-WHY HE MAY HAVE BEEN CARRYING A BOMB-NONE FOUND, THE UN BUILDINGS AND SCHOOLS WERE A HAMAS ENCLAVE-IN EVERY ONE OF THESE CASES, NON EXISTENT HAMAS WERE NEVER FOUND.HOW LONG MUST THE PALESTINIANS PUT UP WITH THE ISRAELI BLOODLUST AND LAND GRAB? THE PALESTINIANS ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES AND PROPERTY BY LOBBYING MISSLES INTO ISRAEL SO THE ISRAELIS CALL THEM TERRORISTS AND SAY THEY INSTIGATED IT-MUCH LIKE SAYING THE JEWS ASKED FOR THE "HOLOCAUST".

***NEITHER OF THE AFORE MENTIONED IS TRUE.*** Innocent Palestinians , and, even non Palestinians are being killed ON PURPOSE and the "Holocaust" did EXIST.

No matter how you turn the question, Rachel Corrie's death is a tragedy....But Corrie's death is no more tragic than the deaths of other young people — some of them young Americans who had traveled to Israel — who died in bombings committed by Palestinian terrorists. They're also worth remembering this day. However you feel about Corrie's actions, whether she was a martyr or misguided, she at least made her choice. Palestinian terrorists didn't give the young people killed in their bombings any choice in their deaths. That, it seems to us, is another kind of tragedy for these young Americans and their families.American Rachel Corrie was killed in the Gaza Strip on March 16, 2003, when she entered an area where Israeli forces were carrying out a military operation. The incident occurred while IDF forces were removing shrubbery along the security road near the border between Israel and Egypt at Rafah to uncover explosive devices, and destroying tunnels used by Palestinian terrorists to illegally smuggle weapons from Egypt to Gaza. Corrie was not demonstrating for peace or trying to shield innocent civilians, she was interfering with a military operation to legally demolish an empty house used to conceal one of these tunnels.

A misleading photo published by the Associated Press gave the impression that Corrie was standing in front of the bulldozer and shouting at the driver with a megaphone, trying to prevent the driver from tearing down a building in the refugee camp. This photo, which was taken by a member of Corrie’s organization, was not shot at the time of her death, however, but hours earlier. The photographer said that Corrie was actually sitting and waving her arms when she was struck.

Israel’s Judge Advocate’s Office investigated the incident and concluded that the driver of the bulldozer never saw or heard Corrie because she was standing behind debris that obstructed the view of the driver whose field of view was limited by the small armored windows of his cab. An autopsy found that the cause of Corrie’s death was falling debris.

The State Department warned Americans not to travel to Gaza, and Israel made clear that civilians who enter areas where troops are engaged in counter-terror operations put themselves unnecessarily at risk.

This was not the first time protestors have tried to obstruct Israeli operations, and the IDF has made every effort to avoid harming them. This case received worldwide publicity in large measure because it was the first such incident where a protestor was killed. In fact, the army had told Corrie and other demonstrators from the anti-Israel International Solidarity Movement (ISM) to move out of the way. ā€œIt’s possible they [the protesters] were not as disciplined as we would have liked,ā€ admitted Thom Saffold, a founder and organizer of ISM.

The death of an innocent civilian is always tragic, and the best way to avoid such tragedies in the future is, first and foremost, by the Palestinian Authority putting an end to violence, and stopping the smuggling operations that have brought huge quantities of illegal weapons into the Gaza Strip. Activists interested in peace should be protesting the Palestinian actions. Activists also have every right to express their views about Israel’s policies, but they should take care to avoid the appearance of siding with the terrorists or placing themselves in positions where they could be inadvertently caught in the crossfire of a counter-terror operation or otherwise endangered by entering an area where military operations are being conducted.
