We're thinking about visiting Egypt next year, where should we go? |
The first place that comes to mind is Cairo. But where else could we go? We thought about spending two weeks there.
We went to Morocco this year, so we're not really worried about getting hassled too much, but any other advice would be really welcome. Thanks. |

Well, it really depends on what you enjoy most. For example, Cairo is the best choice for most tourists because it has a bit of everything; history, restaurants and nightspots, among others. If you're interested in Ancient Egypt, for example, you should head straight to Luxor and Aswan, which is almost like going back in time, as those two cities have an amazing collection of temples and different relics. In case you're more in the mood for having fun in the sun, then I'd advise you to visit one of Egypt's lovely Red Sea destinations, such as Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Beautiful resorts, a huge number of diving and snorkeling sites, a lively nightlife, as well as miscellaneous attractions guarantee you a vacation to remember. |

Don't worry about visiting Egypt,Everywhere there is a terrorism, Egypt is a beautifully country, the weather is good people are very friendly, funny and kind, there is hospitality everywhere you go.
Of course you have to visit Cairo where you can go to see the pyramids,Museum,Castles,Mosques and don't forget cruse on the Nile river.
If you would like to spend a vacation on the beach, you will spend a wonderful time in Sharm el Shiekh,Hurgada,Taba,Nwebaa or Dahb. The red sea is fantastic there is a lot of things you can do
If you would like to know more about the ancient Egyptians civilization so it better to go to Luxor and Aswan because they are full of the best Egyptian monuments.
Don't hesitate,Welcome anytime |

Cairo, is for night life and that kinda scene, also for Pyramids and Musieums, Old markets like Khan Khalily.
Sharm EL Sheik and Hurgada for the perfect white sand and clear blue sea kinda scene.
Luxor and Aswan for the hard core ancient pharos and monuments scene
and then there are always the desert safaries for a worderfull desert trip, but must avoid summer time for that.
Enjoy, its a place made in heaven and its actually very very safe.
Im livin there for 40 years |

Let your adventurous side take over. GO!!! Once you get there check with your hotel to find out what they have to offer on day trips and site seeing. Those types of deals are usually well worth it. Hire a car and drive yourself around. it is all how you want to do it. |

The people are generally great. If you're a western woman and don't clearly have a husband with you, young boys in Cairo have a tendency to dare each other to grab you and then run away, but otherwise you don't generally get hassled unless you're at a big tourist site, like Giza. In any case, you just say no and keep going if people get too annoying about trying to sell stuff.
If you are only going to stay around Cairo, you should see the Egyptian Museum, the pyramids at Giza, and the Step Pyramid at Saqqara (there are a bunch of other tombs at Saqqara for you to see too, if you're really into it).
Also, you might want to see some of the older parts of Cairo from the Middle Ages, and shopping in the Khan il-Khalili is a necessity. You can get nice carpets, jewelry, clothing, as well chincy souvenirs. Just make sure you know a bit about what you are buying and always, always bargain. If they don't want to sell at the price you want, start to walk away and 95% of the time the price suddenly drops -- this works for taxis too, as long as you negotiate before you get in.
If you want to see more areas, there are tons of monuments around Luxor, and it will be a little warmer there than in Cairo. Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, and the Valley of the Kings are the most popular tourist sites there. The people in Luxor have very little business other than tourism, so they are prone to hassle you more to try to sell you goods or rides in their boat or horse-drawn carriage (please don't take one of these unless you can tell that the horse is treated well). However, you may enjoy Luxor less because tourism is essentially its only business, so people are more persistent about trying to sell goods and services.
You can also visit sites in Middle Egypt by taking the train, but that may be a little more complicated than you want for a first visit to Egypt. However, from Luxor you can get bus tours to Abydos and Dendera, where you can see a couple of great temples.
For most parts of Egypt, I would suggest dressing conservatively (both men and women). However, if you're interested in getting a lot of sun (i.e., not staying covered up) and lying around by a pool, then you're better off going to Sharm el-Sheik or another resort area on the Red Sea.
I spent months in a more rural part of Egypt and liked all of the people there. They were friendly and wanted to practice the small amount of English they knew. I knew about as much Arabic as they did English, but we managed to communicate somehow. The people in tourist areas will generally speak multiple languages, so language is not an issue in those places.
If you're interested in giving out something to children or others who might beg or ask for a "tip" (this is a bit of a misnomer for the Arabic term "baksheesh") without actually spending much money at all, bring pens, lots of pens. For whatever reason, pens can be hard to come by Egypt and people will love it if you give them pens, especially children -- and what child doesn't like to draw or write (if he's learned to do so)?
I hope you enjoy your trip. Post again if you have any more questions. I'd be happy to help. |

Has to be Sharm! Try visiting Shark Bay really beautiful snorkeling and diving. The people are really friendly and polite in the hotels and the vendors are always hassling you to go into their shops as they 'sell for less'. The food was really good and the weather perfect (no rain for years we were told). When you arrive you have to but a visa, short queue, but worth it then you can go anywhere in Egypt, without it you can only visit Sinai |

it is safe in egypt, dont worry, i think if you wanna have nice time, great beaches and night life, then Sharm is your place, weather is gr8 all year, have a good time |
