What's Luxor like for a family holiday?
I'm looking to take my 3 kids - aged 13, 10 and 8 - to Luxor this summer and want to know if anyone else and taken kids there, and what it was like. Is there plenty to keep them occupied?...

There is two temples and the valley of the kings( try and find out what tombs are open first), there are also markets and a boat trip on the Nile, this is not Disney land, but they will have fun. |

luxor is fantastic and the egyptians very welcoming and warm hearted. dont go july, august or september as it is unbearably hot. it is very cheap with roughly 5 egyptian pounds to 1 british. i would recommend getting a taxi to the valley of the kings...for about 60ep (about £12) the taxi will pick you up about 5am take you to all the sites, will come in handy for buyiong tickets etc and will drop you back to your hotel around 12pm just as the heats getting too bad. go with an open mind and you will love it! |

yes my family went last summer, just don't let them go anywhere alone, it was lots and lots of fun, I loved it! but it'll be extremely hot, so drink lots of water and take a malaria pill and whatever you do, DO NOT eat the fresh tomatoes and other fruits and vvegetables! i got sick. |

To be honest I was 23 when I went to Luxor and believe you me after stanading in 40oC heat in a queue to see the next bloody temple for hours at time. YOu really begin to lose the will to live. My advice to you would be to take a Cruise on the NIle for a week that was a whole lot more interesting and sights are breathtaking. We did a Luxor - Aswan cruise......value for money...second to none....cheap as chips. But and it's a big but, the difference between Luxor and Aswan is miles apart. Luxor it's all horses and Carts Aswan it's all BMW's and Mercs. Your kids will hate you if you take them here and do not even think about going to Hurgadha.....its a black hole. |

Best time to visit Luxor is December or January. If you take your kids with you will miss the fun part about it coz you will have to take the tourist bus. When I went there I took a bike to the valley of kinds and climbed a big hill to get to the other side. I had a good time with my brother and his wife doing all this. The place there is really nice. What I liked most was the sound and light show. Don't miss it!! |

Hot, hot, hot. Dry. Smelly. Beggars. Pickpockets. Unpleasant. Not for kids is my view, at least not until they're all in their teens and able to withstand the environment there. Too much like hard work. It will probably destroy the magical image you had of the place. |

Luxor is a town and with the abundance of temples and historical sights such as the Valley of the Kings you should have no problems keeping them occupied. I have just returned from Egypt and they absolutely love children, they will be made to feel very special. Also don't worry if they take photos of them on their phones, no harm is meant by this and it it done as a friendly gesture. One thing with Luxor is the amount of hassle you get from touts, stay firm with them. It will be mega hot (40 degrees plus) so make sure you do the obvious with the high factor sun lotion and plenty of water. Above all have a great time. |

Luxor is not the best place for kids in terms of entertainment unless they are genuinely interested in historical stuff and are willing to go on tours. A lot of tourists take their kids with them though because it is the trip of a life time and they do not want to simply not go because their kids may be bored and also to try and get their kids to be more cultured, interested in ancient history and civilisations. It really depends on the personality of your kids? are they flexible, interested in seeing stuff they wont get to see else where? intrigued by the civilisation of ancient egypt or not? As a i kid, i really enjoyed it, but that was a long time ago.I strongly recommend you go on a nile cruise since the experience is more captivating and more interesting than an on-shore hotel. Hope the above helps you |

If you mean Luxor resort in Las Vegas then i suggest against it greatly. It is adult city with adult activities. You would only be taking away from the experience of vegas and it is not fair to the children. Unlike other activities and cities children are NOT allowed in most places you would want to be as an adult. And the places where children are allowed aren't fun! You could travel accross the country to put them in daycare but why would you? If you have a family member that could watch them do it! Vegas is WAY TOO MUCH FUN! And if you aren't talking about Luxor in vegas then SORRY i don't know! Have fun!!!! |

Luxor is a great place to visit, but probably not for young kids. Children may not appreciate it. Make sure you visit in winter because summer is very hot there. |

In Luxor you have the best of both worlds, the kids will love the hotel and then there are the monuments. If they are interested then take them over to the West Bank. If not take them on a felucca in the evning to watch the sunset. Having said this Luxor does not specifically cater for kids but the locals just love them. |

very good point you chose to visit, actually Luxor have a good location in Egypt, transport to every other city is avaliable, so to make it centre for your trip is really good choice, it is my city and i live here the whole of my life so that i know how it is going to be here. about the kids don't worry they will have full fun, there are a loooot to do for them. there are so many nice resturant around, u could try make small trips around the city don't make it all visit temples cause it may cause boring for the kids so i suggest make flucca trip, city tour with horse carriage and camle or donkey riding. if you would like any more advices or any arrangements here it is soo easy to do it cause i work in local travel agent, so don't hesitate to contact me back if u like to ask about anything more. |

you will love it. We travlled all the way from Washington DC with a 4 and 1 year old who thought it was great and still talk about it 5 months later. Allow them some time at the hotel and the pool and you cant go wrong. I used to live there and always walked over the mountains behind the Valley of the Kings, I highly recomend this, even if the Egyptians tell you you cant go |

Hi, I go to luxor every year, we also take our daughter with us. The people in luxor are very friendly, you get some egyptians trying to sell you ornaments etc etc on the street, but they are all harmless. I would recommend if you do go, the new winter palace hotel, we stay there every time we go, they have an excellent swimming pool a range of restaurants, plus the staff are fantastic. For the kids, you can take them on camel rides, boat rides, there is a macdonalds round the corner too. ALmost forgot to mention, there is hot air balloning as well!! Just a poin you need to take on board apart from mcdonalds every other shop or camel rides etc, you will have to barter for a lower price, as most people will give you a tourist price, so when they tell you it, halve it and then again. eventually ou could meet half way for the prie. It really is an experience!!! Hope you go and enjoy |
