Well, having lived there to study, I wouldn't say it's the best in Egypt. Sure, it's pretty and the traffic is less deadly than Cairo, but I got more sexual harassment there than I did anywhere else. It does have some cool historical sites and (of course the sea!) but I much prefer the busy big city life of Cairo.

I think that wherever you are right now in Egypt you will just see it as the best city, there is nowhere better than home.

i think becuz it is offered for anything: Business(the port and air port and great projects are held there),of course torrist sea and beachs, and its poeple(like Ruby said they follow trafic rules more than poeple in other city i think), even in winter it is nice

Alexandria is the best city because of many things:
- The traffic jam is ONLY in the 3 hours starting 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm.
- The sea road is a very big road, it helps alot of cars & buses to go all over Alex.
- The presence of the Mediterranean sea.
- The presence of many historical places.
- And many many more .......

Alexandria is a unique city, we must take care of it

Alexandria was Egypt's capital for nearly a thousand years, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and again become one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages. It didn't become all that for nothing, but it become world's scientific center of the world and even it's library was the largest library in the world. With the founding of the library and a museum in Alexandria by Ptolemy II, the great tradition of learning began in Alexandria as intellectuals came from throughout the world to partake in the learned atmosphere. It become home for Aristarchus, who is credited with being the first scientist to propose that the earth revolves around the sun. Apollonius, who showed that, using a plane, all three types of conic sections, the ellipse, the parabola and the hyperbola, could be derived from the same cone. And the one who obsess the most, Eratosthenes, most remembered for having calculated with a high degree of accuracy the earth's circumference. I still practice the way he developed the first world map usinglongitude and latitude lines. So to answer, what makes Alexandria the best city in Egypt? what makes not the city of genius the best city on Earth.

Its beautiful, on the Mediterranean and it's people are the best.
It's more relaxed than Cairo yet sophisticated enough.
It's very old yet still very beautifully.

Most important of all, it's my home town.

that opinion goes along w/ the maxim, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder..." yes, alexandria is appealing but there are other beautiful places as well in egypt AND other parts of the world. Alexandria and aswan are tied w/ as my favorites from what i've seen so far in egypt. Enjoy your much loved city. The mediterranean is great (i just hope ppl. will link their pride of alexandria into becoming environmentally aware + not too pollute it too much. That'd be a tragedy).
